Abstract

Introduction: Neuropathy, a disorder affecting the nervous system in the limbs, poses a significant concern for bentor drivers due to their occupational activities. The early detection of neuropathy through sensory nerve examinations is essential for timely medical intervention and the prevention of serious complications. This study aimed to assess the incidence of neuropathy among bentor drivers in Gorontalo City, emphasizing the urgency of addressing this issue.Method: An observational study utilizing quantitative descriptive methods was conducted in July 2024. The sample comprised 30 bentor drivers in Gorontalo City, selected through purposive sampling. Neuropathy was evaluated based on sensory nerve examinations in the lower limbs, utilizing the Neuropathy System Score (NSS) and the Neuropathy Deficit Score (NDS) questionnaires. Results: According to NSS and NDS assessments, the incidence rates of neuropathy were 73.3% and 66.6%, respectively. Most participants exhibited moderate neuropathy as indicated by NSS (30.0%) and mild neuropathy according to NDS (43.3%).Conclusion: The screening results indicate a relatively high incidence of neuropathy among bentor drivers in Gorontalo City, underscoring the necessity for early detection programs. This study advocates for further research to identify factors contributing to neuropathy within this group, engaging stakeholders in the ongoing pursuit of enhancing occupational health.Key words: Bentor driver, lower extremity, nervous system, neuropathy, occupational health

Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: The work environment can pose risks of accidents or health issues for individuals or groups. Office jobs typically involve light tasks performed while seated at a desk in a well-equipped and comfortable workspace. However, such a work environment can create its own problems for workers, one of which is low back pain (LBP). This study aims to analyze the relationship between risk factors for low back pain among educational staff at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional design. The sample consisted of 186 educational staff at Universitas Negeri Gorontalo, selected using cluster random sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) observation sheets to assess age, work experience, smoking habits, stress, and work posture. Data analysis used chi-square test to examine the relationships between variables and logistic regression to identify the most influential variables. Results: The statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between LBP and age (p = 0.001) and work posture (p 0.001). Other factors such as gender, work experience, smoking habits, and stress did not show a significant relationship with LBP. Age had the greatest influence on LBP (Exp (B) = 0.427).Conclusion: Age and work posture are factors associated with the occurrence of LBP. Improving sitting posture while working and taking regular breaks to stretch are necessary to reduce the risk of LBP. An appropriate prevention strategy is crucial to protect workers from LBP, which can also lead to increased productivity.                                      Keywords: Age, educator professional, low back pain, work posture

Abstract

Adolescence, as a dynamic developmental phase, was often characterized by emotional fluctuations. The Hulonthalo Emotion Card, a culturally based innovation, was selected as a medium to enhance adolescents’ self-awareness. This study aimed to identify the influence of peer support groups using the Hulonthalo Emotion Card method on self-awareness among adolescents at SMK Negeri 3 Gorontalo. This research employed a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The sample consisted of 67 students, who were selected using total sampling. Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and the Mann-Whitney U test. The results, analyzed using the Wilcoxon test, showed a change in adolescents’ self-awareness before and after the peer support group intervention using the Hulonthalo Emotion Card method in both the experimental and control groups at SMK Negeri 3 Gorontalo. The experimental group showed a p-value of 0,000 (p-value < 0,05), while the control group showed a p-value of 0,250 (p-value > 0,05). It was concluded that the peer support group intervention using the Hulonthalo Emotion Card method had a significant influence on self-awareness among adolescents at SMK Negeri 3 Gorontalo. This study was expected to encourage adolescents to be more active in managing their emotions.
