Abstract

Abstract

The physical condition of roads can be improved by optimizing the performance of the asphalt mixture used. This study aims to analyze the effect of using quicklime as a filler material in AC-BC asphalt mixes. The research method used laboratory tests with variations in asphalt content of 4.5%, 5%, 5.5%, 6%, and 6.5% and variations in quicklime filler modification of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, and 5%. The tests included optimum asphalt content (OAC), stability, Marshall, fatigue (flow), and durability. The results showed that the optimum OAC was 6.25%, the highest stability was 1425 kg at a lime variation of 2%, the highest flow was 3.93 mm at a variation of 5%, and the best durability was 72.36% at a variation of 4%. These results meet the specifications of Bina Marga 2018 Revision 2, indicating that pure lime has the potential to be used as an alternative filler in asphalt mixtures.

Abstract

The road is a vital infrastructure that plays an essential role in supporting community mobility and economic growth. Damage to roads caused by traffic loads, weather factors, or suboptimal construction quality can reduce pavement performance. The Ciawitali–Banjarwangi Road section in Garut Regency serves as one of the main access routes connecting three districts—Banjarwangi, Singajaya, and Pendeuy. This road has experienced significant deterioration, including alligator cracking, longitudinal cracking, potholes, raveling, and depressions. Such conditions require appropriate maintenance strategies and repair budgeting. This study employs the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) method based on ASTM D6433-18 standards to evaluate the level of road damage. A quantitative descriptive approach was used through a visual field survey covering a 3.72 km section divided into 48 segments. The damage data were analyzed to determine the PCI value of each segment, from which maintenance strategies were formulated according to the damage category, and repair cost estimates were calculated based on the Garut Regent Regulation No. 54 of 2024. The results show that PCI values vary across segments, with an average PCI of 40.29, indicating a Poor condition. However, the recommended maintenance strategies were determined based on the PCI category of each segment, resulting in different repair recommendations according to the type and severity of damage found. In general, an overlay is also recommended for all surveyed segments to restore the pavement to its original condition. The estimated total cost required for rehabilitating the Ciawitali–Banjarwangi Road section is IDR 3,960,228,074.67. These findings are expected to serve as an alternative reference for the local government in planning road maintenance and estimating budgets based on the actual damage data obtained.

Abstract

Population growth and increased economic activity have led to higher traffic volumes on roads, including on Jalan Limbangan–Leuwigoong in Garut Regency. This condition puts excessive pressure on flexible pavements, causing damage, reducing driving comfort, and increasing maintenance costs. This study aims to analyze the effect of vehicle volume and speed on road conditions using the International Roughness Index (IRI) and Surface Distress Index (SDI) indicators. Data were collected through traffic surveys, speed measurements, the RoadLab Pro application for IRI, and visual surveys based on Bina Marga guidelines for SDI. Simple linear regression analysis was used after classical assumption tests were not met in multiple regression. The results showed that vehicle volume and speed did not significantly affect IRI. Conversely, both had a significant effect on SDI, with a strong relationship: volume (R = 0.740; R² = 54.8%) and speed (R = 0.759; R² = 57.5%). This study confirms that traffic characteristics have a greater effect on road surface damage (SDI) than road roughness (IRI).

Abstract

Kamojang Garut Highway is a district road that serves as an alternative route between Bandung and Garut, passing through tourist and industrial areas. This road has suffered various types of damage, such as cracks, potholes, and deformation, which have reduced service quality and disrupted the socio-economic activities of the community. This study evaluates the condition of the road from STA 0+000 to STA 8+300 using the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) and Bina Marga methods. The PCI method involves a field survey to identify the type, severity, and extent of damage, then calculates the pavement condition index. The Bina Marga method assesses damage based on the road condition classification from the Directorate General of Highways. The results show an average PCI value of 43.37%, with a “fair” road surface condition that requires overlay. Based on Bina Marga, a damage score of 11 results in a condition value of 4, indicating priority for periodic maintenance. Mapping based on the Geographic Information System (GIS) using QGIS illustrates the spatial distribution of damage in detail, facilitating the identification of priority locations. This combination of methods provides a comprehensive, detailed, and applicable evaluation. The results of this study are expected to serve as a reference for local governments for more effective, efficient, and sustainable road repairs.
