Abstract

Work climate, particularly high ambient temperatures, significantly affects workers’ health and productivity. Extreme heat exposure may increase the risk of health issues, including cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed to assess the work climate conditions at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas TPK Bitung and evaluate the potential health risks for workers. This was a descriptive study using a quantitative approach. The variable measured was work climate, assessed using a Heat Stress Monitor during daytime shifts (08:20–19:40 WITA) with measurements taken every 40 minutes. Univariate analysis was used to describe the distribution of temperature parameters. The average work climate temperature was 29°C, with a minimum of 26°C and a maximum of 35.5°C. Based on the Indonesian Ministry of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2018, a Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) of 29°C is within the safe threshold for light to moderate workloads but may exceed the Threshold Limit Value (TLV) under heavy physical exertion, especially under direct sunlight. The work climate at PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas TPK Bitung presents varying levels of occupational health risk depending on the intensity and type of work performed. Preventive interventions are necessary to reduce the risk of heat stress.

Abstract

Abstract

Manado City recorded the highest number of HIV/AIDS cases in North Sulawesi in 2023, with 1,027 HIV cases and 1,128 AIDS cases. Female Sex Workers (FSWs) are considered a high-risk group for infection. One of the simplest ways to prevent HIV/AIDS transmission among FSWs is by using condoms during sexual intercourse. The objective of this study was to analyze factors associated with condom use in HIV/AIDS prevention among FSWs in Manado City. This was a quantitative research using an analytical survey method with a cross-sectional study approach. The sample consisted of 108 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique, and the research instrument employed was a questionnaire. The result of bivariate analysis using the chi-square test shows that education (p = 0.027), age at becoming as female sex worker (p = 0.026), and condom availability (p = 0.000) are significantly associated with condom use among female sex workers. The result of multivariate analysis shows that the dominant factors influencing condom use were education (exp(B) = 4.249) which means that education has a 4.249 times greater influence on the likelihood of condom use, indicating that individuals with higher education tend to use condoms more often and condom availability (exp(B) = 51.582) which means that condom availability has a 51.582 times greater effect on the likelihood of condom use, indicating that better access to condoms significantly increases the likelihood of their use. The results of this study can be used by North Sulawesi Indonesia Family Planning Association and related institutions to design more effective intervention programmes, consistently increase condom availability and educate people about the benefits of condom use.

Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer is a significant global health problem, with most cases caused by infection with oncogenic types of Human Papillomavirus (HPV). In Indonesia, HPV immunization coverage remains suboptimal. Female university students, as agents of change, are expected to play an active role in prevention through their knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding HPV immunization. Purpose: To describe the behavior of female students toward HPV immunization, including knowledge, attitudes, and practices. Method: A quantitative descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all active female students from the 2021–2025 cohorts, totaling 990 individuals. A sample of 102 respondents was determined using the Lem show formula and selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using an online questionnaire (Google Form) that had been tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was conducted univariately to describe the frequency distribution of each variable. Results: The results showed that most respondents had a moderate level of knowledge (38.2%), followed by low (32.4%) and good (29.4%) levels. Attitudes toward HPV immunization were overwhelmingly positive (98.0%), with only 2.0% showing negative attitudes. However, none of the respondents (0%) had received the HPV vaccine, although the majority (77.5%) expressed willingness to be vaccinated if it were available. Conclusion: The knowledge of female students is generally moderate, and their attitudes toward HPV immunization are highly positive; however, this is not reflected in actual vaccination behavior. There is a gap between intention and practice, indicating the need for more effective interventions to improve access and promote HPV vaccination uptake. Abstract

Picky eating is an eating behavior in children characterized by a tendency to be selective about food and refuse certain types of food. This behavior is common during the toddler period and may affect nutritional intake if it persists over time. This study aimed to describe picky eating behavior among toddlers aged 12–36 months in the working area of Puskesmas Tatapaan, South Minahasa Regency. A descriptive quantitative design was employed involving 81 toddlers selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using the Child Eating Behaviour Questionnaire (CEBQ) and analyzed using univariate analysis. The results showed that 58 toddlers (71.6%) exhibited a tendency toward picky eating behavior, while 23 toddlers (28.4%) did not. Most toddlers demonstrated a positive interest in food; however, they also showed sensitivity to satiety and a high desire to drink. In conclusion, picky eating in this study reflected selective eating rather than complete food refusal, indicating that parental education on responsive feeding is essential to optimize children's nutritional intake. This study was limited by the use of parent-reported data and a descriptive design, which may restrict causal interpretation. Therefore, further analytical or longitudinal studies are recommended to identify factors associated with picky eating behavior in toddlers.
