Abstract

Abstract

Using a quantitative approach with a sample of 133 students selected via simple random sampling from a population of 200, two measurement tools were employed to assess self-efficacy and subjective well-being. Results revealed a strong positive correlation (r = 0.726, p < 0.001) between self-efficacy and subjective well-being, supporting the hypothesis. This finding underscores the significance of self-efficacy in shaping adolescents' emotional and cognitive evaluations of their experiences, suggesting implications for educational and psychological interventions aimed at enhancing student well-being.

Abstract

Objective: This study will focus on exploring the picture of the bandwagon effect phenomenon in adolescents. Method: The location of the study was at SMA Muhammadiyah 2 Sidoarjo, using 3 subjects from students at the school. The research process uses qualitative methods with a descriptive phenomenological approach. The use of this method aims to be able to explore deeper personal experiences of each subject, to then be analyzed and interpreted in depth. The data collection process was carried out by applying interviews guided by three aspects of the bandwagon effect, namely conformity, interpersonal influence, and status seeking. Results: Based on this process, it was found that aspects of conformity and interpersonal influence had a more dominant influence on the subject's decision to follow the trend without consideration, when compared to one other aspect, namely the status of seeking. In addition, results were also quite varied related to the impact of the bandwagon effect, which consisted of negative impacts and positive impacts from following the trend activities carried out by the subject. Novelty: This study highlights a phenomenological exploration of how adolescents are influenced by different aspects of the bandwagon effect—specifically comparing the dominance of conformity and interpersonal influence over status seeking—in a real-world school context.

Abstract

General background: Anxiety prior to dental procedures remains a common psychological challenge across patient populations. Specific background: Despite advancements in dental technology and treatment approaches, many adult patients, particularly women, continue to experience significant preoperative anxiety before tooth extraction. Knowledge gap: Limited qualitative research explores the lived experiences and underlying factors contributing to such anxiety in adult female patients within local clinical contexts. Aims: This study seeks to describe the manifestations of preoperative anxiety in adult female tooth extraction patients and to identify the psychological and experiential factors that contribute to it. Results: Using a phenomenological qualitative method with purposive sampling of two adult female patients at Dr. Ny Ade’s dental practice, findings revealed shared experiences of fear triggered by dental instruments, nervousness, and uneasiness before extraction. Contributing factors included past negative personal experiences, observing painful procedures in others during childhood, and irrational anticipations of excessive pain. Novelty: This study provides in-depth qualitative insights into how early dental experiences and cognitive perceptions shape preoperative anxiety among adult women. Implications: The findings underscore the importance of tailored communication and supportive strategies by dental practitioners to mitigate anxiety, improve patient trust, and optimize treatment outcomes. Highlights: Anxiety in adult women is shaped by past and observed painful experiences. Fear is intensified by dental instruments and irrational anticipation of pain. Abstract

General background: Academic stress is a common psychological challenge faced by adolescents, often influenced by social and environmental demands. Specific background: Previous studies suggest that social support contributes to students’ well-being, yet its association with academic stress in Islamic school contexts remains underexplored. Knowledge gap: Limited evidence exists regarding the relationship between social support and academic stress among high school students in faith-based educational settings. Aim: This study examines the correlation between social support and academic stress among students at SMA Al-Islam Krian. Results: Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 213 randomly selected students out of a population of 1,308, measured with Likert scales and analyzed with SPSS correlation tests. Findings revealed a weak but significant negative correlation (r = -0.225, p = 0.001 < 0.005), indicating that higher social support is associated with lower academic stress. Novelty: The study highlights the role of social support in reducing academic stress within the context of Islamic education.
