Abstract

Siak Hulu Subdistrict and Tambang Subdistrict are sub-districts in Kampar District which are supporting areas of Pekanbaru City because many people work and attend schools in Pekanbaru City but live in Siak Hulu Sub-District and Tambang District. The high number of residents with a variety of activities will certainly influence the amount of CO2 emissions produced. Primary data was obtained from the survey involving 298 respondents and secondary data, regional maps amddemographic data. The variables in this research are the amount of LPG fuel, kerosene, and fuel wood and BBM (fuel oil) for generator engines, namely gasoline and diesel. Calculation of CO2 emissions was carried out using the IPCC method (2006). Total primary CO2 emission from household activities in Siak Hulu Subdistrict and Tambang District are 1346,802 tons CO2/month.Keywords: Carbon Footprint, Household CO2 Emissions, Fossil Fuels

Abstract

Biochar can affect the microbial population and can act as an adsorbent in the soil. Palm shell potensially as a raw material for making biochar because it contains cellulose, hemicellose, and lignin. The purpose of this research was to compare the biochar characteristics of palm shells according to SNI. Biochar was pyrolyzed at 550oC for 30 minutes and activated using NaOH solution. Biochar from palm shells in this research has qualified for activated carbon based on SNI 06-3730-1995, with a ash content of 5,25%. Key words : Biochar, Palm shell, Ash

Abstract

Bangkinang city is the capital of Kampar Regency which consists of urban areas, Bangkinang city and Bangkinang Districts. It has an area of 224.65 Km2 and the population of the two districts is 77,339 inhabitants. The population continues to grow, but waste management facilities such as Temporary Shelter (TPS) provided by the government are not evenly distributed and have not fully served the community in the city of Bangkinang. The population growth of Bangkinang city reaches 2.43% annually. With a population of 77,339 people, the city of Bangkinang has the potential to produce large amounts of waste, which if not managed properly can cause a decrease in the quality and aesthetics of the environment. Therefore it is necessary to calculate the generation of waste as a basis for waste management in the city of Bangkinang. The calculation of waste generation that is carried out refers to SNI 19-3964-1995, the unit of large city waste generation = 2 - 2.5 L / person / day, or = 0.4 - 0.5 kg / person / day, the unit of waste generation medium / small city = 1.5 - 2 L / person / day, or = 0.3 - 0.4 kg / person / day. Based on the results of the calculation of waste generation, Bangkinang city is included in the category of small cities, it is found that the waste generation is 154,7 m3 / day. Key words: Bangkinang City, Waste Generation, Domestic Waste.

Abstract

Limbungan Baru is the most populous Sub-District in Rumbai Pesisir District. The high level of density population in Limbungan Baru Sub-District is as one potential contributor of CO2 emissions. The calculation of total energy consumption that generate CO2 emmision was called carbon footprint. The CO2 emissions from the household activities are divided into primary and secondary CO2 emissions. The primary CO2 emissions is resulting from fuel used in households, while the secondary CO2 emissions is resulting from the used of electric household equipment. CO2 emmision were calculated using IPCC method (1996). Total CO2 emissions from household activities in Limbungan Baru Sub-District is 2.194,614 tons CO2/month where primary CO2 emissions amounted to 185,535 tons CO2/month, and secondary CO2 emissions amounted to 2.009,089 tons CO2/month.Keywords: Carbon footprint, CO2 emission, Household, Electricity Energy, Fossil Fuels

Abstract

Activated carbon is a material containing amorphous carbon which has an internal surface so that it has high adsorption. Activated carbon has the potential to be used as an adsorbent. This study aims to utilize rubber fruit shells as raw material for making activated carbon. Activated carbon was prepared by carbonization process at 500°C for 1 hours using 10% H3PO4 activator and sieving with a filter size of 200 mesh. The activated carbon product is then tested using proximate analysis. The results of the proximate analysis show that activated carbon has met SNI 06-3730-1995 with a moisture content of 7,6%. Abstract

Used oil is a potential alternative fuel and can reduce the waste of used oil. Used oil utilization has been carried out at The Production Technology Laboratory, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Riau University on modified diesel engines. The problem is that the resulting emissions still exceed the quality standard at a power load of 2000 W. In the present work, CO2 emission produced by Dongfeng R175 diesel engine with the mixed used oil and dexlite as alternative fuels was investigated. A total of three fuel samples, such as D10 (10% dexlite), D20 (20% dexlite), D30 (30% dexlite) respectively are used. CO2 emissions were analyzed with varied power loads, starting at idle, 1000 W, and 2000 W. The result was analyzed using a Microsoft Excel application with graphical output of the emission levels. The results showed that the best mixture was D10 where the highest loading power of 2000 W produced CO2 emission of 2,5%. While the highest CO2 emission produced by the D30 mixture at a power load of 2000 W of 6,6%.Keywords : Diesel Engine, Used Oil, Dexlite, Exhaust Emissions, CO2.

Abstract

The population of Pekanbaru City grows increasingly every year, especially in Bukit Raya Sub-district. The higher number of motorcycle used by the people as a transportation directly affect the amount of CO2 emissions generated from each vehicles. This study aims to calculate the volume of vehicles and predict CO2 emissions from the number of vehicles in Bukit Raya District. The methodology used in this study is the calculation of the number of vehicles on Sudirman Street, Teuku Bey and Karya I, the calculation of the conversion of the number of vehicles with units of passenger cars (SMP), and calculation of CO2 emissions on effective and non effective day in Bukit Raya District. Total emissions generated from transport activities in Bukit Raya District are 422 ton CO2 / day on effective day and 241,46 ton CO2 / day on non effective day. Keywords: Carbon Dioxide Emissions, Passenger Car Unit (SMP), Emission Factor, Transportation.

Abstract

WWTP mud (Waste Water Treatment Plant) production of palm oil is the result of sediment from liquid waste containing high organic matter and has not been utilized optimally. WWTP mud produced by palm oil by adding rubber seed shells that can be used as solid fuel in the form of briquettes through a carbonization process with the addition of crude glycerol as an adhesive and can increase the calorific value of the briquettes produced. The adhesive used is crude glycerol because it has high viscosity and density characteristics which can be used as adhesives. In this study the variables used were IPAL sludge ratios for palm oil and rubber seed shell production (90:10, 80:20, 70:30, and 60:40% bb) and pressing pressures (50, 75, and 100 bar) with percentages crude glycerol 40% of the total weight of briquettes. The best compressive strength of 0.1428 kg / cm2 at ratio of 60: 40% with a pressure of 100 bar. The process conditions that have a very significant effect on the compressive strength that significantly influences is ratio of raw materials and pressing pressure which affects the yield. Keywords: Glycerol Crude, Carbonization, Briquette, IPAL Mud (Waste Water Treatment Plant) produced by palm oil, Rubber Seed Shell.
