Abstract

Biochar is often used as a material to make adsorbents. The largest contributor to air pollution is transportation emissions which have a negative impact on the environment and human health.  Efforts to reduce emissions from transportation, especially motorized vehicles, are using biochar. Biochar is in the form of a solid precipitate which has a large surface area and is obtained from thermal decomposition of biomass without using oxygen or in limited oxygen conditions which contains carbon so it has a high absorption capacity which can be used as an adsorbent. This research aims to analyze the effect of variations in the shape of the adsorbent on the adsorption of CO gas in motorbike exhaust gas using biochar from rubber fruit shells. Biochar was prepared by carbonization process at 5000C for 1 hour using 10% H3PO4 activator and sieving with 100 mesh sieve. The biochar product was then tested using proximate analysis. Proximate analysis results show biochar complies with SNI 06-3730-1995 with a water content value of 5%; ash content 4.2%; volatile matter 4.5%; and fixed carbon 86.3%. The results showed that the highest allowance for CO gas emissions on motorbikes occurred in the first test of 73.768% with a tube shape and a media length of 3 cm. The best adsorption capacity value occurred in the first test with a length of 3 cm biochar media, namely 138.738 mg/g. The results of this study concluded that biochar from rubber fruit shells met quality standards and could be used as an alternative absorbent for gas emissions from motorcycles.

Abstract

Abstract

Industrial growth and the increasing number of transportations cause the need for oil to increase. The increasing need for oil is directly proportional to the waste produced, namely used oil. Used oil waste can be a replacement fuel, which is produced quite large every year. This research used a mixture of used oil and Pertamina Dex used as a modified diesel engine fuel. The purpose of this study was to analyze the exhaust emissions produced by modified diesel engines. The research was conducted by varying the percentage of the mixture of used oil and Pertamina Dex, namely the percentage of a mixture of P10 (90% used oil and 10% Pertamina Dex), P20 (80% used oil and 20% Pertamina Dex) and P30 (70% used oil and 30% Pertamina Dex). Tests on the calorific value of fuel and exhaust emissions, which are varied based on the power load at idle (0 W), 1,000 W and 2,000 W. The test results showed that the calorific values of fuel P10, P20 and P30 were 44,191 kJ/Kg, 48,648 kJ/Kg and 50,074 kJ/Kg respectively. From this research it is known that the best fuel mixture of P30 with a loading power of 0 W, which emits a value of CO of 0.03%, CO2 of 2.32%, and HC of 34.86%. The results showed that the P10, P20 and P30 fuels met the exhaust emission quality standards according to the applicable regulations where the resulting opacity emissions did not exceed 40%.

Abstract

Tenayan Industrial Estate has various anthropogenic activities, including industrial and population-related activities. Many activities can affect the levels of pollutants in the air, including microplastics. Microplastics can be transported through the air by meteorological factors. This research examined the abundance of microplastic particles in ambient air around the Tenayan Industrial Estate, focusing on the types and kinds of microplastic polymers. The air sampling method employed was passive sampling, conducted at three locations: upwind, downwind, and center, carried out every 7 days for 28 days. Microscopical method to determine the amount of abundance, the classification of microplastic polymer types and types. Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) tests were conducted to determine the type of plastic. The research results show that the upwind point has an average weekly microplastic abundance of 64.00 ± 39.53 particles/liter. The central point is the average abundance of 69,5 ± 31,38 particles/liter. The downwind point has the highest average microplastic abundance of 81 ± 60,86 particles/liter. The dominant form of microplastics is fiber, accounting for 60,7%. The Microplastic polymer types identified are polyvinyl chloride, polycarbonate, and polyamide. The results showed that microplastic abundance was influenced by meteorological factors, specifically wind speed. Downwind locations, which are residential areas, have the highest microplastic abundance, indicating accumulation rather than directional transport.

Abstract

The use of boilers and incinerators in the palm oil processing industry will contribute to pollutants in the form ofparticulates (PM2.5 and PM10) which are quite large in number. Particulates are pollutants that have a high level oftoxicity that can endanger human health and the surrounding environment. This study aims to determine the amount ofpollutants resulted from palm oil mills as well as mapping the distribution patterns in the environment. To be able todescribe the pattern of pollutant spread, it starts by identifying the factors that influence the spread of pollutants suchas the amount of pollutants produced, atmospheric stability, wind direction and speed. These data were obtained fromthe Meteorology and Geophysics Agency of Pekanbaru City. To describe the spread of particulate pollutants, asimulation model is used which has been integrated into the AERMod software. The results of the study show that thedirection of the distribution of emissions for pollutants PM2.5 and PM10 from the simulation model results tend towardsoutheast and north from the source. The highest PM2.5 concentration value for the 24-hour was 9.26 µg / m3, thehighest for 1 year was 1.48 µg / m3. The highest value of PM10 concentration for 24 hours is 18.23 µg / m3, the highestfor 1 year is 2.87 µg / m3. The simulation results show that the concentration of pollutants PM2.5 and PM10 originatingfrom boilers and incinerators are below the quality standards of each pollutant.

Abstract

To support the production process in order to meet the demands of increased productivity, the palm oil mill has implemented a mechanization system on the tools and machinery of the palm fruit processing industry. With the application of mechanization of production, it can cause adverse effects on the health of the workforce, one of which is noise disturbance while working. This study aims to provide an alternative solution to noise problems in research locations using the conceptual model. The research method was carried out by measuring noise taken at 139 points in the production area and loading ramp, then compared with the maximum intensity of noise allowed at the workplace and calculating the length of time workers may be exposed to noise. From the results of the study it was found that there were 43 points that exceeded the maximum intensity and noise standards at the point 69 with 99.7 dB. The maximum exposure time at this point is only 16.08 minutes if you do not use Personal protective equipment. Noise control with the conceptual model can be done internally, namely by controlling the source, in the intermediary or at the recipient. External controls are carried out by conducting routine health checks, K3 training and installing noise warning signs.
