Abstract

This study was motivated by the low mathematical problem-solving ability of high school students. The purpose of this research was to determine the differences in mathematical problem-solving ability between students who received instruction through the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach and those who experienced conventional learning in Grade XII Phase F of SMAN 2 Lubuk Sikaping, Pasaman Regency. The research employed an experimental method with a Control Group Posttest Only design. The population consisted of all Grade XII Phase F students in the 2025/2026 academic year. Samples were selected using random sampling, resulting in Grade XII F 8 as the experimental class and Grade XII F 7 as the control class. The research instrument was a problem-solving test in essay form, based on Polya’s problem-solving steps, which had been validated and showed a reliability coefficient of 0.855. Data analysis was carried out using a one-tailed t-test at a 5% significance level. The results indicated that the mathematical problem-solving ability of students taught with the RME approach was significantly higher than that of students taught through conventional learning. This finding suggests that RME provides contextual learning experiences, encourages active participation, and fosters critical, analytical, and creative thinking skills in solving mathematical problems. Therefore, RME can be recommended as an alternative instructional strategy to enhance the quality of mathematics teaching and learning in secondary schools.

Abstract

Materi bangun ruang sisi datar menjadi kendala dalam mata pelajaran matematika dan kurangnya penggunaan media berbasis teknologi untuk membantu proses pembelajaran. Tujuan penelitian ini yaitu untuk menghasilkan media pembelajaran berbasis android menggunakan Smart Apps Creator yang valid pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan yaitu research and development (RD) dengan model Plomp (2013). Tahap yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini hanya 2 tahap yaitu preliminary research dan prototyping phase yang merangkap sampai uji validitas. Instrument yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu angket validitas dan pedoman wawancara. Berdasarkan hasil validasi media pembelajaran oleh validator, didapatkan nilai akhir 95% dengan kategori sangat valid. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran berbasis android menggunakan Smart Apps Creator pada materi bangun ruang sisi datar telah teruji kevalidannya untuk digunakan oleh guru dan siswa sebagai media pembelajaran bangun ruang sisi datar.

Abstract

This study was conducted in response to the fact that the teaching materials used in mathematics instruction at SMA Negeri 1 Sitiung have not yet fully addressed students’ learning needs. The objective of this research is to develop a valid E-LKPD (Electronic Student Worksheet) based on Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for the topic of sequences and series in grade X. This study employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach, utilizing the Plomp development model. The validation results of the PBL-based E-LKPD obtained a score of 89.8%, categorized as very valid. These findings indicate that the PBL-based E-LKPD for the sequences and series material in grade X at SMA Negeri 1 Sitiung is valid and suitable for use by both teachers and students during the learning process.
