Abstract

The phenomenon of Fear of Missing Out (FOMO), or the fear of being left behind in the flow of information and social interaction, is one of the factors that influence the psychological condition of adolescents in their use of social media. This study aims to analyse the forms of discourse expressing adolescent anxiety that appear on social media and to examine this phenomenon from a pragmatic perspective. This study uses a qualitative approach with pragmatic discourse analysis methods. Data in the form of adolescent speech quotations were collected from Instagram, X, and TikTok platforms by searching for hashtags relevant to the FOMO phenomenon. The results show that adolescents' expressions of anxiety due to FOMO are not always conveyed explicitly but are present in the form of implied meanings through certain word choices and language styles. Words such as ‘left behind’ or ‘out of date’ indicate a concern about missing important moments, while pragmatic strategies such as humour, irony, and repetition are used to mask feelings of anxiety. Teenagers' speech also reflects social pressure from their peer environment, which influences the way they communicate in the digital world. These findings confirm that FOMO plays an important role in shaping digital communication patterns and impacts the mental health of teenagers. Through pragmatic analysis, the results of this study can form the basis for the development of healthier digital literacy and strategies to prevent the negative impacts of social media.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of TikTok usage on the language habits of Generation Z in Indonesia. The background of this study stems from the widespread use of slang that has rapidly developed through social media, particularly TikTok, which has slowly shifted the use of standard Indonesian in everyday communication. This study uses a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design. Data were collected through a survey of 63 active TikTok users and analyzed using descriptive analysis techniques through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study show that 41% of respondents often and 14% very often use slang such as mager, baper, bestie, gaje, and kepo in daily interactions, exceeding the use of standard Indonesian. The analysis of the findings shows that TikTok plays a significant role in strengthening the spread and normalization of informal language among Gen Z. Although this phenomenon reflects the linguistic creativity and identity of the younger generation, it also raises concerns about their formal language skills. Therefore, this study concludes that there is a need for balanced language education efforts so that Gen Z can use slang contextually without neglecting the accuracy of Indonesian language in formal settings

Abstract

This study examines strategies for utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Indonesian language learning by integrating urban farming contexts as contextual learning media. The research focuses on analyzing adaptive learning systems, educational chatbots, and automatic text analysis to enhance language learning quality. The research method employs a systematic literature review analyzing academic sources related to AI implementation in language education and urban farming as a meaningful learning medium. Results indicate that AI implementation significantly improves students' literacy skills, writing competencies, and contextual understanding. Urban farming as a learning context proves effective in enhancing learning engagement and connecting theory with real-world practices in contemporary socio-environmental issues. The integration of AI with urban farming creates meaningful and applicable learning experiences, preparing students to face digital-era communication challenges. This study recommends developing AI-based learning models that integrate real-world contexts to create more holistic and relevant learning experiences for the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of multisensory methods in improving Indonesian phoneme mastery in primary school students. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design conducted on first-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Sinduadi. The research subjects were selected purposively, considering the characteristics of students who are in the early stages of literacy. Data were collected through observation of student learning activities, interviews with teachers and students, and documentation of learning activities. All data were analysed using thematic analysis techniques to identify patterns of change in student behaviour and phoneme skills. The results of the study indicate that the multisensory method can significantly improve sensory engagement, learning motivation, and phoneme retention. Students find it easier to distinguish between similar phoneme sounds and demonstrate positive learning transfer outside the classroom. However, the application of this method requires teachers to be prepared in terms of preparing teaching aids and adjusting strategies to student characteristics. Overall, the multisensory method has proven to be effective and enjoyable in supporting basic literacy achievement in primary schools, so it is recommended that it be applied more widely with adequate resources and training for teachers.

Abstract

This study examines the language variation and virtual interaction patterns of Indonesian Generation Z on the Roblox platform. Employing a digital ethnography approach combined with multimodal discourse analysis, data were collected through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, and chat log analysis. The findings reveal five dominant communication patterns: (1) the prevalence of code-mixing (blending Indonesian and English), (2) a complex system of nonverbal communication through emotes and gestures, (3) the use of slang and abbreviations as identity markers, (4) sociolinguistic awareness in varying language registers based on social relations, and (5) the significant influence of globalization and digital content on language practices. These findings indicate that Generation Z develops multimodal communication competencies and forms unique hybrid linguistic identities by integrating local and global elements within the virtual space. This research contributes to the understanding of language evolution in the digital era and has implications for the development of digital literacy.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji pengaruh interaksi virtual terhadap pembentukan dan penyebaran bahasa slang di kalangan komunitas gamer Indonesia dari perspektif sosiolinguistik. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini menggabungkan wawancara mendalam dan analisis percakapan untuk memahami dinamika kebahasaan dalam konteks permainan daring. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahasa slang tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai alat komunikasi, tetapi juga sebagai penanda identitas dan solidaritas kelompok. Interaksi virtual yang intensif melalui permainan daring dan platform komunikasi terkait mempercepat pembentukan dan penyebaran istilah-istilah baru. Variasi bahasa slang juga ditemukan berkorelasi dengan jenis permainan yang dimainkan, mencerminkan kompleksitas sosial dalam komunitas virtual. Penelitian ini memberikan wawasan baru tentang peran interaksi digital dalam evolusi bahasa dan dinamika sosial di era digital.

Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji integrasi teknologi digital dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia di era Revolusi Industri 4.0, dengan fokus pada manfaat, tantangan, dan peluang yang muncul dari penggunaan platform seperti Learning Management Systems (LMS), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), serta aplikasi mobile. Teknologi seperti Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), dan Artificial Intelligence (AI) juga dianalisis dalam konteks bagaimana mereka memperkaya pengalaman belajar, meningkatkan keterlibatan siswa, dan memfasilitasi personalisasi pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknologi digital mampu meningkatkan fleksibilitas dan efektivitas pembelajaran, serta mendukung pengembangan literasi digital siswa. Namun, tantangan seperti kesenjangan digital, kurangnya kompetensi guru dalam teknologi, dan masalah keamanan data masih perlu diatasi. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pendekatan blended learning yang menggabungkan teknologi dengan interaksi langsung untuk menjaga keseimbangan antara aspek teknis dan sosial-emosional dalam pembelajaran. Kesimpulan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan panduan strategis dalam pengembangan kebijakan pendidikan yang lebih adaptif di era digital.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gaya bahasa dosen dalam interaksi pembelajaran di Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Ekonomi Balikpapan, khususnya dalam konteks perguruan tinggi. Pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif digunakan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis-jenis gaya bahasa yang dominan dan pengaruhnya terhadap partisipasi mahasiswa. Data dikumpulkan melalui observasi langsung, rekaman audio, dan catatan lapangan selama beberapa sesi pembelajaran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 65% dosen menggunakan gaya bahasa formal-akademis, yang memperkuat kredibilitas akademik tetapi cenderung menciptakan jarak dengan mahasiswa. Sebanyak 25% dosen menerapkan gaya bahasa direktif, yang efektif dalam memberikan instruksi tetapi kurang mendorong interaksi dua arah. Sementara itu, hanya 10% dosen yang menggunakan gaya bahasa persuasive, yang terbukti mampu meningkatkan motivasi dan keterlibatan mahasiswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Temuan ini mengindikasikan pentingnya keseimbangan dalam penggunaan gaya bahasa agar tercipta lingkungan pembelajaran inklusif dan partisipasif. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan pelatihan bagi dosen untuk mengoptimalkan gaya bahasa yang responsive terhadap kebutuhan mahasiswa, guna meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran di perguruan tinggi.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisi variasi gaya penulisan mahasiwa dan pengaruh sosial terhadap perubahan makna dengan kajian sosiolinguistik. Perkembangan teknologi membawa perubahan signifikan dalam gaya penulisan mahasiswa. Menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif, penelitian ini mengkaji gaya penulisan akademis (formal), non-akademis (informal), serta gaya penulisan campuran yaitu code-switching (alih kode) dan code-mixing (campur kode) yang digunakan oleh mahasiswa dalam konteks tertulis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa gaya penulisan akademis lebih mengutamakan penggunaanb bahasa yang baku dan objektif, sedangkan gaya penulisan non-akademis cenderung lebih santai, yang biasanya menggunakan slang atau ungkapan yang sedang populer, dan gaya penulisan campuran yang mencerminkan keberagaman bahasa yang dimilik mahasiswa, serta pengaruh sosial dan globalisasi. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa variasi gaya penulisan bukan hanya mencerminkan cara berkomunikasi, tetapi juga mencerminkan perubahan sosial yang dapat dilihat dari identitas sosial, budaya, dan cara penggunaanya dalam dunia akademis maupun non-akademis.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the use of Indonesian among Generation Z and its relevance to the function of the national language in the digital age. As a generation of digital natives, Generation Z presents both challenges and opportunities in efforts to preserve Indonesian. This study uses a phenomenological qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, observation of linguistic activities on social media, and analysis of digital documents. The data were analysed thematically through a process of reduction, categorisation, and meaning extraction to identify distinctive patterns of language use. The results show that Generation Z's language practices are characterised by linguistic creativity, code-mixing between Indonesian and foreign languages, and the emergence of new forms of digital expression. A gap was also found between normative language policies and the more dynamic and flexible language practices of Generation Z. The implications of this research emphasise the importance of developing adaptive, participatory, and digitally-based language policy and development models so that Indonesian remains relevant and competitive amid global disruption
