Abstract

This research aims to analyze the effect of women's income on poverty levels. Using panel data from city districts in Riau province during the 2011-2022 period, the analysis model used is panel regression with a fixed effect approach. This research reveals that women's income contributions to the family can significantly reduce poverty levels. The greater the contribution of women's income to total family income, the lower the poverty level. On the other hand, a decrease in women's income contribution results in an increase in poverty levels. These findings have implications that regional government efforts to reduce poverty levels in Riau province can be carried out through policy interventions related to increasing women's income, especially married women. Therefore, increasing women's participation in income-generating programs can be one of the strategic policies that should be considered in efforts to reduce the poverty rate.

Abstract

Women’s poverty in Aceh persists due to entrenched gender norms restricting their economic access and social welfare, despite the poverty alleviation efforts. Gender mainstreaming policies (GMP), initiated through Presidential Instruction No. 9/2000, remain ineffective due to weak institutional coordination, inadequate funding, and exclusion of women in planning. This qualitative study analyzes policy implementation via document reviews, observations, and interviews, revealing multidimensional challenges. Institutional fragmentation, short-term program focus, and financial constraints limit women’s empowerment. Women’s exclusion from policy planning further reduces program ownership and engagement. Field data underscore women’s undervalued economic roles in coastal and agricultural sectors. In fishing communities, women contribute to fish processing, while female coffee farmers in Bener Meriah manage harvesting and small businesses. However, restricted access to resources, credit, and decision-making stifles their potential. To address these gaps, the study advocates strengthening institutional collaboration, increasing gender-responsive budgets, and integrating women into planning and evaluation. Sustainable outcomes require prioritizing long-term strategies with robust monitoring. Enhancing resource access, financial support, and decision-making power for women is critical to reducing poverty and advancing gender equity. These reforms aim to transform policy frameworks into actionable, inclusive solutions, ensuring Aceh’s poverty alleviation efforts align with the needs and contributions of its women.

Abstract

Introduction/Main Objective: Labor force participation is crucial for improving household economic conditions. Theoretically, labor force participation in the job market can be influenced by several factors, including poverty levels. Documentation from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Jambi Province indicates that labor force participation rates vary across districts and cities in the province. This study aims to estimate the impact of poverty levels on labor force participation rates in Jambi Province. In this analysis, labor force participation is categorized into male and female labor force participation rates. Research Methodology: This study employs panel data from districts and cities during the 2018–2023 period. All data are sourced from published reports by the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) of Jambi Province. To estimate the relationship between variables, the study utilizes panel regression analysis with a fixed-effects approach. Findings/Results: The study demonstrates that poverty levels have a positive and significant impact on male and female labor force participation rates. The higher the poverty level, the higher the male and female labor force participation in the job market. Conversely, lower poverty levels are associated with lower labor force participation rates. Conclusion/Recommendations: Labor force participation in the job market is significantly determined by poverty levels. In other words, the challenges faced by households in meeting their basic needs drive increased participation in the job market. Therefore, it is recommended that district and city governments in Jambi Province enhance labor force participation by providing training and skills development programs, particularly for impoverished groups.
