Abstract

Abstract

Abstract: This study aims to examine the effects of principals’ managerial competence and transformational leadership on the performance of elementary school teachers in Purwakarta District. The research employed a quantitative approach using an explanatory research design. The sample consisted of 290 elementary school teachers selected through proportional random sampling. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and Multi-Group Analysis (MGA) to identify differences in effects between public and private schools. The results indicate that elementary school teachers’ performance is generally in the good category, as reflected in lesson planning, instructional implementation, classroom management, student participation, and learning assessment. Structurally, principals’ managerial competence has a positive and dominant effect on teacher performance, with a path coefficient of 0.512, while transformational leadership also shows a positive effect with a coefficient of 0.245. Together, both leadership dimensions explain 62.2% of the variance in teacher performance. The MGA results reveal differences based on school type, showing that managerial competence is more dominant in public schools, whereas transformational leadership has a stronger influence in private schools. This study concludes that improving teacher performance is most effective when school principals are able to integrate strong managerial competence as the foundation of school governance with transformational leadership as a driver of motivation and school culture. Therefore, leadership development programs for school principals should be designed holistically and contextually, taking into account the characteristics and needs of different school types. Keywords: Managerial capability, School principal, Teacher performance, Transformational leadership.

Abstract

This study examines how Learning Communities support teachers’ pedagogical competence and proposes the MOKBA (Model for Optimizing Adaptive Learning Communities) as a managerial framework for sustainable professional learning. Using a qualitative systematic literature review guided by PRISMA, 18 articles published from 2020 to 2025 were selected from Google Scholar, DOAJ, and ERIC and analyzed through Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The synthesis shows that Learning Communities strengthen four core dimensions of pedagogical competence: instructional design, classroom implementation, ICT integration, and assessment literacy. The most effective mechanisms are lesson study, peer coaching, collaborative design, and data-driven reflection. Based on these findings, MOKBA is formulated through four cyclical phases: needs diagnosis, collaborative design, guided implementation, and collective reflection with impact evaluation. The model positions Learning Communities not merely as informal collaboration spaces, but as accountable systems embedded in school quality management. This study contributes a conceptual framework for strengthening teacher professionalism, instructional quality, and sustainable school-based professional development.

Abstract

Deep learning is a new learning approach that enables students to develop higher-order thinking skills. This study aims to examine the role of principals’ empowering leadership in enhancing teacher performance in the implementation of deep learning in primary education. The study offers novelty through the integration of empowering leadership, deep learning pedagogy, and collaborative school culture in explaining improvements in teacher performance. Using a qualitative case study design at SD Labschool UPI Purwakarta, this research involved one principal, two teachers, and four students. Data were collected over two months through interviews, classroom observations, and Likert-scale questionnaires measuring teachers’ and students’ perceptions of deep learning implementation, and were analyzed using an interactive thematic approach involving data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that principals’ empowering leadership is manifested through three main practices: building professional trust, encouraging participative decision-making, and facilitating continuous professional learning and instructional innovation. These practices strengthen teachers’ capacity to implement deep learning effectively through reflective practice, pedagogical autonomy, and meaningful student engagement. In addition, a collaborative and reflective school culture emerged as an important enabling factor that mediates and reinforces the influence of empowering leadership on teacher performance. This study highlights that empowering leadership functions not only as a managerial practice but also as a transformative force in building collective professional capacity and sustaining instructional quality improvement in primary education.
