Abstract

Photography, as a combination of art and technology, represents the evolution of the field of fine arts in general, which is interdependent. The scientific aspect of the method of creating photographic works lies in its logical explanation, including the narrative structure and intrinsic qualities of the photographic results. This activity uses several methods, such as counseling or outreach methods, by providing material on creating photographic works for beginners and professional photographers and practicing creating photographic works for around 40 participants at the Bulungan Blok M Theater at 13.00 WIB. Participants are members of the Jakarta International Photo Festival (JIPFEST) photography community, which includes individuals with various levels of ability and photography educational backgrounds. This systematic approach is actively implemented by the JIPFEST community, a group of photography enthusiasts who regularly hold exhibitions, workshops, and mentoring sessions. The aim of this PKM is to equip participants with the ability to design photographic works with a strong message as well as develop appropriate concept elaborations. From training activities that provide a concrete approach to developing photographic works of art, including the steps in creating photographic works, it has proven to be effective as an important instrument in creating photographic works that not only convey a solid concept but also succeed in conveying a clear message. Both beginners and professional photographers can use these stages as a foundation for their creative process and improve their abilities in creating photography.

Abstract

Abstract

Campaign Still Life Photography #oceanforlife: The Negative Impact of Plastic Waste on Marine Animals. Indonesia ranks as the second-largest contributor of plastic waste into the ocean, which poses a serious threat to marine life. Plastic contaminated with microorganisms from the plastisphere is often misinterpreted as food by marine animals, endangering the ecosystem. This research aims to raise public awareness about the importance of keeping the ocean clean and protecting marine animals. The author employs a still life photography approach in this campaign to illustrate the negative impacts of plastic waste. A practice-based research method is chosen, where the creative process of photographing and selecting props serves as the primary tools for conveying the message. The result is a collection of five still life photographs that effectively communicate the campaign's message. Still life photography proves to be a powerful visual approach for voicing environmental issues without the need for direct interaction with the ocean

Abstract

Light in photography serves as a fundamental element in capturing objects, with its characteristics influenced by the type of light used. This study explores light experimentation as an artistic subject through a structured fine art photography creation method that emphasizes visual aesthetics. The experiment utilizes artificial light combined with color filters and reflected on various surfaces, both reflective and absorptive. This technique enables an exploration of light-object interactions, creating unique visual effects. The abstract expressionist approach in this experiment positions light as the primary medium in shaping artistic compositions. Through long exposure, light moves freely within the frame, generating dynamic gradients of color, form, and lines. This study aims to introduce new perspectives in fine art photography and contribute to the development of experimental methods in contemporary photography.

Abstract

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the homemade food and beverage sector have emerged as a means to sustain income. One of the main challenges they face is product marketing on social media, particularly in presenting appealing and appetizing food photos. In a previous community service program (PKM), UMKM Fellow Pages received photography training but continued to struggle with lighting and food styling techniques. Therefore, the author extended the training with a specific focus on food photography lighting, aiming to help SMEs produce more attractive and effective product photos for social media. Food has evolved into a form of visual art on social media, where appealing food photos can enhance desirability and appeal. Food photography has a long history, beginning with daguerreotype techniques in the 19th century and evolving into the use of food images in cookbooks and magazines in the 20th century. Today, food photography is a highly effective marketing tool in the digital age. Research indicates that visually appealing images can stimulate consumer desire to purchase. The UMKM Fellow Pages community aims to improve members' skills in lighting techniques through training on the use of lighting modifiers. With improved skills, SMEs can produce sharper, more accurate, and visually attractive product photos. This is expected to enhance product competitiveness in the digital marketplace, build brand identity, and ultimately increase sales and economic well-being.

Abstract

Photography is a powerful tool for capturing and conveying stories, emotions, and experiences, and it holds significant potential to influence public awareness and policy. This research investigates the impact of photography on public space infrastructure in Jakarta. It aims to explore how photography shapes public space infrastructure, affects public perception, and raises awareness of policy issues, while also evaluating its role in mobilizing support for policy changes. The study contributes to understanding the relationship between photography and public policy, integrating visual theory, critical theory, and communication studies. The hypothesis is that photography significantly impacts the public policy-making process and outcomes. Using qualitative methods such as observation, content analysis, and data collection representing subjects' reactions and behaviors, along with photographic content analysis, this research seeks to offer a comprehensive understanding of how visual images influence public opinion, enhance awareness, and affect policy debates. The study also includes a critical analysis through Spatial Critical Theory to clarify the dynamics between urban development, public space usage, and public policy in Jakarta. This research aligns with the author’s academic focus on photography's role in urban culture and architecture, complementing the course on Architecture and Interior Photography taught by the lead researcher. The findings aim to provide insights into photography's role in shaping public policy and facilities, offering practical implications for policymakers, photographers, and the public in leveraging photography for policy advocacy and public facility enhancement.
