Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to identify rice farmers' motivation levels and evaluate the relationship between needs categories based on the ERG Theory (existence, relatedness, growth) and rice farming in Rangdumulya Village, Pedes District, Karawang Regency. Methodology: A mixed-method approach was employed, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. Respondents were selected using Slovin's formula, with 42 farmers from the Karya Sentosa Farmer Group Association as the sample. Data were analyzed using interval width tests for motivation levels and Spearman Rank analysis for the relationship between ERG needs and farming. Results: (1) Farmers' motivation is categorized as high for existence and relatedness needs and very high for growth needs; (2) No significant relationship exists between existence and relatedness needs and farming. However, growth needs sub-variables, such as educational background and self-actualization, show significant relationships with farming. Findings: Growth factors are critical in supporting farmers' motivation. Novelty: This study highlights specific links between growth needs in ERG Theory and rice farming success. Originality: Offers new perspectives on applying ERG Theory to farmer motivation. Conclusions: Growth needs significantly enhance motivation and farming success. Type of Paper: Empirical Research Paper.

Abstract

Milkfish is one of the leading aquaculture commodities which has high consumption value in Indonesia. The implementation of milkfish pond cultivation in Sedari Village, Cibuaya District is still not optimal because it is constrained by limited fertilizer provided by agricultural kiosks. The aim of this research is to identify the influence of production factors on production and to analyze the level of technical efficiency. The data analysis method used is the Stochastic Frontier production function. The research results show that the production factors that have a real and significant influence are pond area, seeds and labor. Meanwhile, the variables fertilizer, feed, pesticide, water pump and technology dummy did not have a significant effect on milkfish production in Sedari Village. Milkfish farming in Sedari Village is technically efficient because the average technical efficiency value is 0.84 with the highest efficiency level being 0.95 and the lowest efficiency level being 0.10.

Abstract

Ciparagejaya Village is one of the villages in Karawang Regency that is directly adjacent to the Java Sea waters and is dominated by fisheries activities such as capture fisheries, sea product auctions, and processing of fish caught in the sea. The existence of weather factors and moon phases can affect fishing catches which have an impact on fishermen's income, purchasing power of fishermen's households, and the level of welfare of fishermen's households. The purpose of this study is to analyze the amount of fishermen's household income from the fisheries sector which includes capture fisheries and non-fisheries and analyze the expenditure of fishermen's households which includes food and non-food expenditures, and analyze the level of welfare of fishermen's households based on the Exchange Rate of fishermen (NTN) in May 2024 in Ciparagejaya Village, Tempuran District, Karawang Regency. The method used in this research is the survey method and this research was conducted with a quantitative descriptive approach. Sampling was done purposively by involving 96 boat-owning fishermen residing in Ciparagejaya Village, Tempuran Subdistrict, Karawang Regency. This study used primary data and secondary data. Primary data was obtained through interviews using a questionnaire and secondary data was obtained through relevant agencies. The results showed that the average income from capture fisheries and non-fisheries in May 2024 amounted to Rp 2,832,158 and Rp 1,620,000. The average food and non-food expenditure of fisher households in May 2024 amounted to Rp 973,281 and Rp 713,135. The average welfare level based on the Fisherman Exchange Rate (NTN) indicator in May 2024 was 1.89. This shows that fisher households can fulfill their primary and non-primary needs.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp has several advantages for aquaculture, including a strong feeding response, high appetite, relatively high resistance to poor environmental conditions, rapid growth, and high survival rate. In the current competitive business environment, aquaculture enterprises are required to optimize production processes to improve productivity and maintain competitiveness. This study aimed to identify the production factors affecting vannamei shrimp production at PT Bengkulu Sukses Lestari Aquaculture (PT BSLA), both partially and simultaneously. The study was conducted at a single pond site owned by PT BSLA using a quantitative descriptive method. Four independent variables were analyzed, namely land area (X1), fry (X2), feed (X3), and labor (X4), while production was used as the dependent variable. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS. The results showed that land area and labor had a significant partial effect on vannamei shrimp production, while fry and feed did not show a significant partial effect. Simultaneously, land area, fry, feed, and labor significantly affected vannamei shrimp production. These findings imply that optimizing land utilization and labor management is essential to improve the productivity and sustainability of vannamei shrimp farming at the company level.

Abstract

Mangrove degradation along the northern coast of West Java threatens coastal ecological stability and the resilience of brackishwater aquaculture systems, especially milkfish (Chanos chanos) and saline tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) ponds. This study assessed the multidimensional sustainability typology of integrated mangrove-aquaculture systems in Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu Regencies using Multidimensional Unfolding (MDU) in IBM SPSS Statistics. Primary data were collected from 437 valid respondents through purposive sampling. The instrument consisted of 31 indicators across ecological, economic, social, and legal-institutional dimensions, measured using a four-point Likert scale from low agreement to strong agreement. Before spatial mapping, the regional score matrix was examined using a construct-level regional score association test and internal consistency analysis. The regional score vectors were significantly associated with the total sustainability score (r = 0.576-0.857; p <= 0.001), and Cronbach's Alpha reached 0.933. MDU generated a two-dimensional joint plot with very low stress and high dispersion accounted for, indicating that the regional-attribute configuration was adequate for interpretation. Karawang was associated with zoning, rehabilitation, ecotourism, participation, and legal status; Indramayu with fauna diversity, social conflict, and community-induced degradation; Bekasi with mangrove density, community access, and local knowledge; and Subang with erosion protection and inter-institutional coordination. Complementary MDS-based leverage analysis identified sensitive attributes within each dimension. The results show that mangrove management should be designed asymmetrically by integrating conservation, pond resilience, livelihood diversification, conflict resolution, and fisheries agribusiness development
