Abstract

Abstract

Fire is a primary non-natural disaster threat in densely populated urban areas like Depok City. This community service program aims to enhance community capacity in Limo District through fire risk mitigation and household prevention techniques. The implementation method involved focus group discussions with community leaders and participatory education utilizing presentations, posters, and flyers. Community knowledge was measured through pre-test and post-test questionnaires. The results demonstrated a significant increase in fire safety literacy, with knowledge scores rising from 78.11% to 89.19%. The program's success was driven by active citizen participation and strong support from village officials and local leaders. These findings emphasize that multi-stakeholder collaboration and communicative visual education approaches are crucial prerequisites for building community self-reliance in fire disaster mitigation within urban environments.

Abstract

The construction industry is recognized to be physically demanding and is characterized by a range of occupational safety and health issues, including musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) arising from repetitive movements, prolonged static postures, and physically strenuous working conditions. Participatory ergonomic interventions in which workers are involved in the formulation of the problems have been recommended as effective interventions to increase productivity and health in industries. The objective of this literature review is to explore the effects of participatory ergonomics on health outcome and productivity measures in construction. The review followed the PRISMA 2020 guidelines and included nine studies which examined various ergonomic intervention approaches. Results indicated positive improvement in the reduction of MSDs and fatigue when there was high worker engagement. However, some studies reported limited effects on overall health or productivity. In conclusion, while participatory ergonomics shows potential, its long-term effectiveness depends on worker engagement, intervention design, and consistent implementation, indicating the necessity of a common language for outcome measure and long-term follow-up in future studies.

Abstract

As Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) evolves into a sophisticated discipline, standardizing professional recognition is critical. This scoping review maps certification mechanisms and governance models to identify effective system components. A scoping review following Arksey and O'Malley's framework was conducted. Three databases (Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL) and grey literature sources were searched in March 2026. Data were extracted and synthesized using narrative thematic analysis. Analyzing 30 sources from 1976 to 2024, we identify four governance models and a shift toward capability-based frameworks. Results indicate that effective systems utilize independent examinations and two-tier structures, whereas reliance on short-duration training or portfolio assessment risks limited professional capability. The review suggests that robust professionalization requires aligning education, examination, and governance, suggesting developing nations adopt rigorous, standardized assessment to ensure workforce capability.

Abstract

Purpose: This scoping review aimed to systematically identify core competencies for public health professionals in disaster management. Research Method: We analyzed 22 studies (2002-2024) from PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, and Web of Science using Arksey and O’Malley’s scoping review framework. Included studies addressed competencies for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery. Results and Discussion: The review identified seven critical competency domains: disaster preparedness and risk reduction, leadership and crisis management, communication and digital tool utilization, psychosocial support, community engagement with cultural competency, inter-agency coordination, and post-disaster recovery systems. Leadership and community-centered approaches were universally essential, while technological competencies, such as GIS and proficiency in social media, represented emerging needs. Significant gaps were noted in climate-related disaster frameworks and standardized global training protocols. Implications: Findings underscore the urgent need to validate competencies in field settings, integrate climate science into training programs, and develop standardized frameworks for resource-limited regions. These directly inform public health curriculum development and policy initiatives aimed at enhancing workforce preparedness for evolving disaster scenarios, including climate-related emergencies and pandemics.
