Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is a disease caused by *Mycobacterium tuberculosis*. One of the factors contributing to the low cure rate is non-adherence to TB treatment. Non-adherence is influenced by patient-related factors, including respondent characteristics, knowledge about pulmonary TB, and drug availability. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of respondent characteristics, namely age, gender, education, knowledge about pulmonary TB, and drug availability on adherence to medication. This is a quantitative study with a cross-sectional approach. Samples were collected proportionally from 59 pulmonary TB patients undergoing treatment at 20 community health centers. The instrument used was a questionnaire based on MMAS-8, and the data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with Spearman Rho correlation test and Ordinal Logistic Regression. Adherence to pulmonary TB treatment was better in the older age group (36-45 years) with 85.4%, those with a high school education at 73.2%, respondents with high knowledge at 63.4%, and those reporting good drug availability at 88.9%. No respondents were categorized as non-adherent. The factors significantly affecting adherence to TB treatment were age (p = 0.046), education level (p = 0.013), knowledge (p = 0.021), and drug availability (p = 0.000), with drug availability having the greatest influence. Meanwhile, gender did not have a significant effect on adherence. The R-Square value was 0.525, and the regression equation was \( Y = 0.492 + 0.190 X1 – 0.101 X2 + 0.195 X3 + 0.356 X4 + 0.505 X5 + \epsilon \).

Abstract

Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) are preventable and their risk factors can be controlled. However, most of the behaviors that are at risk of NCDs are often unaware of it. Based on preliminary studies on 259 students of the Public Health Science Study Program (Prodi IKM), it is known that students have never conducted basic routine examinations at least once a year (16.3%) and students do not know the concept of "CERDIK BEHAVIOR" (20.5%). This service aims to increase students' understanding of NCDs and determine the results of early detection of NCD risk. This community service program was carried out in the form of education on the importance of preventing and overcoming NCDs along with the detection of NCD risks, which was attended by 84 students of the public health science study program. Based on the pre-test results, the average reached 63% of correct questions, then increased to 74% in the post-test. Based on anthropometric data and blood pressure measurements, it is known that most have indications of normal body mass index (72.61%), thin (4.76%), very thin (5.95%), mild obesity (10.71%), and severe obesity (5.95%). In addition, most participants had normal blood pressure (64.29%), compared to pre-hypertension (27.38%), and grade 1 hypertension (8.33%). It is hoped that the examination of health conditions in S-1 SMI students will be carried out on an ongoing basis at least once every 6-12 months so that health status and efforts to improve it are known.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a nutritional issue that has been a major focus of the Indonesian government. Stunting is caused by chronic malnutrition. Stunting can have both short-term and long-term impacts. Betara Kiri Village has the highest stunting rate. Purpose: This study aims to determine the factors associated with stunting in toddlers aged 12-59 months in Betara Kiri Village, within the Parit Deli Community Health Center (Puskesmas) working area, in 2024. Method: This research is a quantitative study with a case-control design. Data analysis was performed using the chi-square test. The case samples of this study were toddlers aged 12–59 months who experienced stunting and the control samples were toddlers aged 12–59 months who did not experience stunting, with a total sample of 60 consisting of 20 cases and 40 controls from a total population of 134. Data collection was carried out by measuring the height/height of toddlers and interviews using questionnaires. This study took place in Betara Kiri Village, within the working area of the Parit Deli Community Health Center, from July 16, 2024 to September 8, 2025. Results: Most toddlers were exclusively breastfed (75.0%) and had no history of infection (85.0%). More than half of the mothers had low education (51.7%) and were short in stature (51.7%), while the majority attended ANC visits (81.7%), had a low-risk gestational age (75.0%), normal birth spacing (90.0%), low parity (93.3%), and family income above the minimum wage () (63.3%). This study found that exclusive breastfeeding (p=0.027), history of ANC visits (p=0.031), family income (p=0.004), history of infectious diseases (p=0.464), maternal education level (p=0.083), maternal age during pregnancy (p=0.114), birth spacing (p=0.089), parity (p=0.595) and maternal height (p=0.089) were related to the results. Conclusion: It can be concluded that exclusive breastfeeding, history of ANC visits, and family income are associated with stunting. It is hoped that community health centers can improve the quality of exclusive breastfeeding, monitor regular ANC visits, and provide education to low-income families about the importance of balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Dental caries in children remains a significant public health problem in Indonesia, including in Jambi City. Based on data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey, the prevalence of caries in school-aged children reached over 40%, impacting quality of life, academic achievement, and the economic burden on families. Low knowledge and inappropriate tooth-brushing behavior are the main factors contributing to the high incidence of caries. The objective of this community service is to improve students' dental health knowledge and behavior, and to implement a professional collective toothbrushing program in elementary schools. This activity consisted of five stages: coordination with partners, dental health education, collective toothbrushing practice, mentoring, monitoring, and evaluation. The community service activity successfully improved children's knowledge about dental health and brushing skills.
