Abstract

Urban traffic congestion worldwide leads to air pollution, increased vehicle noise, and longer travel times for both private and public transit. Congestion adversely affects the well-being of road users and urban residents, and traffic accidents are closely linked to congestion. Traffic composition, road infrastructure, environmental conditions, vehicle design, and human behavior can cause congestion. Concrete block pavement is a practical option for improving traffic safety and increasing driving comfort at intersections with traffic lights. Concrete block paving roads are a cost-effective engineering solution for residential, commercial, municipal, and industrial environments. The study uses the Autocad program to create a simulation of a paved surface and a research tool to analyze the model of the research subject. Results indicate that pavement types subjected to higher loads exhibit more deformation than those under lower loads. Pavements with higher weights are more likely to deform, with the Herringbone 90° pavement type able to withstand a maximum load of 2100 kg and exhibiting the highest load deformation rate of 0.21 cm/kg. The study investigates the load-bearing abilities of different pavement kinds and patterns. The Basketweave pavement type has the lowest load capacity at 2077.9 kg and the lowest load deformation rate of 0.41 cm/kg.

Abstract

This study aims to (1) evaluate the effect of steel fibers on the characteristics of paving blocks and (2) determine the optimal mixture composition of steel fibers, cement, sand, and water. The composition variations of cement, steel fibers, and sand were 0%:30%:70%, 1%:30%:69%, 2%:30%:68%, and 2.5%:30%:67.5%, with a constant water-cement ratio (W/C) of 0.5. The characterization involved physical properties (density and water absorption) and mechanical properties (compressive and flexural strength). The results showed that water absorption and compressive strength for Sample A were 8.37% and 17.515 MPa, Sample B: 8.47% and 25.306 MPa, Sample C: 9.22% and 22.227 MPa, and Sample D: 9.92% and 23.388 MPa. Based on the SNI 03-0691-1996 standard, only Sample B met the quality requirement for grade B. The optimal composition for producing paving blocks with superior characteristics was 1%:30%:69% (Sample B), which achieved the lowest water absorption (8.47%) and the highest compressive strength (25.306 MPa). This result suggests that incorporating 1% steel fiber enhances paving block quality by reducing water absorption while improving mechanical strength.

Abstract

The non-uniformity of paving block quality can result in uneven pavement, which in turn can increase the risk of traffic accidents. This study aims to determine the quality of compressive strength of paving block type Holland from several manufacturers in Semarang City area both manually and massively. As well as knowing why the physical dimensions of paving block type Holland from several producers in Semarang City are not uniform. This research was conducted by taking samples in the paving block manufacturing industry around the city of Semarang. The discussion in this study only covers the type of holland paving block in Semarang City from 4 producers namely CV Waringin Putih Banyumanik Semarang, PT Alam Daya Sakti, Anugerah Block, and Putra Alam Sari. All paving block products tested met or exceeded the minimum value of compressive strength specified in SNI 03- 0691-1998. This indicates that these products have an adequate ability to withstand the given compressive load. The compressive strength test results show that the lowest value was recorded for Anugrah Block at 17.21 MPa, while the highest value was achieved by PT Alam Daya Sakti with 20.112 MPa. The non-uniformity of the physical dimensions of Holland type paving from several producers in Semarang City can be influenced by several factors, including different production processes between producers, the use of different raw materials, and differences in the arrangement of machines or production equipment.

Abstract

The concept of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) entails city planning for sustainable urban development, through a system, that aims to reduce the use of private vehicles and increase the interest in walking and transit areas utilization. Jalan Pandanaran is one of the supporting roads located in Simpang Lima area, which is crowded with offices, trade, and service centers. This area has the potential of becoming a regional center or Central Business District (CBD), which implies that it is capable of having a sustainable transportation system through the TOD concept depending on the Regional Center it is being applied to. Therefore, this study aims to identify, analyze and determine the concept of planning the Transit Oriented Development (TOD) system in the Pedestrian Path of Jalan Pandanaran. The method used was rationalistic quantitative with scoring analysis techniques and pedestrian analysis. The result showed a feasibility assessment on the pedestrian path on Pandanaran Street, through the application of the concept of TOD system planning based on the responsiveness of pedestrian users on the path.
