Abstract

Introduction: Diseases commonly observed in the elderly population are attributed to the decline in vascular functionality, with hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, being one such condition. The objective of this community service initiative is to assist senior citizens and elderly individuals in enhancing their knowledge regarding methods to reduce blood pressure levels. Additionally, it aims to enhance their proficiency in performing yoga exercises that have a positive influence on blood pressure. Method: The population in this community service activity is elderly people who are active in participating in activities organized by Posyandu Kromolio Pos 3 or Usila Mandiri Elderly School in Senggreng Village, Malang Regency. The sampling technique used is saturated sample technique or non-probability sampling. The older individuals will monitor their blood pressure during each gathering. The blood pressure assessment is conducted both prior to and following the implementation of yoga activities in order to ascertain the impact of those exercises on the blood pressure levels of older individuals. Results: At the first meeting, 58% of the elderly who attended experienced a decrease in blood pressure after doing yoga exercises. At the second meeting, 73% of the elderly who came experienced a decrease in blood pressure and 12% of the elderly did not experience changes in blood pressure before and after yoga exercises. Conclusion: Following the implementation of yoga activities as a form of treatment, a significant reduction in blood pressure was observed among the majority of senior individuals. Consequently, empirical evidence supports the assertion that yoga workouts yield beneficial effects in reducing hypertension among older individuals. There are three methods used, namely the educational method, the socialization method, and program evaluation. Data collection techniques in this service using interview techniques, questionnaires, and documentation. The impact of this service program shows that, forming agents of change from school-age children to increase public awareness of Covid-19 prevention will run optimally if a direct approach to the community is carried out by the local government and the village government. The results of a survey evaluation regarding public awareness of the prevention of Covid-19 in Jeddung Village showed a poor response to the aspects of frequent hand washing and using a hand sanitizer. Abstract

Stunting remains a pressing global health issue, with 149 million children affected in 2020. In Bangkalan District, East Java, stunting prevalence reaches 25.2 percent, exceeding the provincial average of 19.2 percent. This study aimed to analyze factors influencing stunting, including breastfeeding coverage, maternal education, hygiene, and infectious diseases. Conducted from August to September 2023 in the Blega Health Center area, this analytical correlation study involved 35 toddlers aged 24–59 months selected through simple random sampling. Data were collected via questionnaires, anthropometric measurements, and interviews, then analyzed using chi-square tests in SPSS. The results revealed significant relationships between exclusive breastfeeding and stunting (p value is less than 0.05) and between infectious diseases (e.g., diarrhea and URTI) and stunting (p value is less than 0.05). Toddlers not exclusively breastfed were 0.2 times more likely to be stunted, and those frequently suffering from diarrhea had a 0.13 times higher risk. However, no significant association was found between maternal education or hygiene behavior and stunting (p value is more than 0.05). These findings emphasize the importance of promoting exclusive breastfeeding and preventing infectious diseases as key strategies to combat stunting. Complementary measures, such as improving hygiene and sanitation, remain critical to creating a supportive environment for child growth and development

Abstract

Family caregivers play a crucial role in the care of individuals with mental disorders (ODGJ), yet they often lack adequate education and support. This limitation can diminish their effectiveness in providing necessary care and assistance. The purpose of this community service initiative is to assess the effectiveness of educational interventions in empowering family caregivers of ODGJ and enhancing their active roles in community mental health care. The intervention began with a pre-test to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and roles of health cadres, followed by education through lectures, videos, interactive discussions, and communication simulations. Subsequently, free health screenings were conducted for health cadres, individuals with mental disorders (ODGJ), and former ODGJ as part of a physical and mental health promotion initiative. The results of this community service activity showed a significant increase in knowledge and attitudes, focusing on the feelings, attitudes, and motivations of caregivers in their roles as family supporters. The educational intervention successfully improved caregivers' competence in the early detection of mental health issues, as well as their roles and responsibilities as mental health cadre. This improvement also led to better quality support for ODGJ and reduced pressure on community mental health services. The educational program proved effective in empowering family caregivers of ODGJ, and it is recommended to further develop and expand this program to reach more caregivers and communities.
