Abstract

Pedophiles, individuals who are sexually attracted to children, are regarded as child-molesters. This stigma incites hate and discrimination towards them, even those who have not and committed themselves to not harm children. Thus, understanding and challenging this stigma is important to help them. In this study, we explored the experience of members of Virtuous Pedophiles, an online support group and the preferred identity for pedophiles who are against sexual activity between adults and children. Narrative literature review and thematic analyses were conducted on Gary Gibson’s book titled Virtuous Pedophiles. Virtuous Pedophiles, unfortunately, encounter problems in their daily life, yet they choose to acknowledge and share their sexual orientation with loved ones. They also develop various strategies to protect themselves and children from any form of molestation. They build boundaries in interacting with children, avoid situations involving children, and use fantasy in the form of pornography and masturbation to satisfy their sexual needs without harming children. They hope the stigma on pedophiles is reduced and one day, they can live comfortably by receiving help and support from others and mental health practitioners. Despite acknowledging their sexual orientation, they are still experiencing difficulties in fully accepting themselves due to the stigmatization experienced from others and concerns about their own future. This also hinders them in reaching out for help from professional services to manage their overall wellbeing. As mental health practitioners, we are encouraged to focus more on their psychological distress and then devise strategies that might help improve their daily functioning.

Abstract

This study aims to critically review the policies for enhancing adolescent resilience in preventing drug abuse in Indonesia to address the increasing prevalence of drug abuse among adolescents. The research employs a qualitative approach with data collection methods including literature review and interviews, and uses Nvivo 15 software to organize, code, and analyze the data. The results show that the current policies implemented by the government focus more on interventions aimed at adolescents' internal factors than on external factors. This situation prevents the issue of rising drug abuse among adolescents from being effectively addressed, as the main factors of vulnerability and resilience strengthening lie in external factors. This study contributes by expanding the theory that can be used in policy formulation to improve adolescents' resilience in preventing drug abuse. Additionally, the study enriches the literature on the importance of strengthening support from adolescents' external environments to help them cope with vulnerabilities and enhance their resilience in preventing drug abuse.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Pasangan Serodiskordan, HIV/AIDS, Indonesia AbstractA serodiscordant couple refers to a couple where one partner is HIV/AIDS positive. This research aims to explore the experiences of people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in serodiscordant marriages in Indonesia from the perspective of PLWHA or the index partner. The study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving one participant. The participant, selected through purposive sampling, is an HIV-positive woman married to an HIV-negative husband. Data was collected through in-depth interviews. The data analysis revealed five core themes: status disclosure, a good support system, challenges in marriage, communication as a crucial aspect, and prevention of transmission and planning for offspring. The findings indicate that the main challenges are related to financial issues due to medical costs, disclosing a child's health status that can elicit negative reactions from the community, and poor communication which can increase stress. To address these challenges and achieve satisfaction in sexual relations and marriage, serodiscordant couples must maintain good communication aimed at reaching mutual agreements according to everyone’s needs and desires in marriage. Keywords: Serodiscordant Couples, HIV/AIDS, Indonesia

Abstract

Abstract

The main focus of this narrative review is to reveal an explanation of how certain parenting styles impact the development of certain dark personality traits in individuals, as well as identify various forms of undesirable behavior as outcomes of dark personality traits. Researchers agree that in addition to genetic factors, an individual’s dark personality is influenced by environmental factors. Based on a review of the literature, the dynamics of the influence of parenting styles on the development of dark personality traits in individuals can be explained through the perspectives of evolutionary psychology theory, life history theory, self-determination theory, and social learning theory. In addition, it can be concluded that some outcomes of dark personality are in the form of various types of undesirable behavior.

Abstract

Abstract

Women's political representation in Indonesia continues to face gender-based challenges, including social expectations, leadership stereotypes, and pressures related to multiple roles. This study aims to explore how female politicians interpret and respond to these challenges through impression management strategies, and how they develop psychological resilience within a gender-biased political environment. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six female politicians from various political levels and party backgrounds. The findings reveal that female politicians are aware of the conflicting expectations they face—being expected to appear feminine while simultaneously demonstrating assertiveness as leaders. In response, they employ various impression management strategies such as ingratiation, exemplification, and self-promotion in an adaptive and context-sensitive manner, aligned with conservative and religious sociopolitical settings. Despite emotional pressures stemming from gender stereotypes, they exhibit resilience through social support, emotion regulation, and strong intrinsic motivation. This study highlights that impression management is not merely a tool for maintaining public image but also a means of negotiating gender identity and roles within political spaces. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of the psychological dynamics of female leadership and support the development of a more inclusive and gender-equitable political environment.
