Abstract

The role of press education is crucial in introducing and educating the public about feminist issues through in-depth and critical reporting. Online media serve as agents of change by promoting gender equality and challenging stereotypes. Women have long been subjects in mass media, yet discussions surrounding gender equality, the feminist movement, and its dynamics persist. Feminist campaigns often find the portrayal of women in media problematic. This study, titled Framing of Feminism Reporting in Online Media: The Perspective of the Educational Function of the Press, employs qualitative research using Zhongdang Pan and Gerald M. Kosicki's framing analysis model, which includes syntax, script, thematic, and rhetoric elements. The research analyzes how feminism is framed in the online media outlet Wongkito.co and links it to the educational function of the press. Framing feminism in this context reflects the media’s dual role: disseminating information and educating the public on values such as gender equality, courage, and female leadership. The educational function of the press emphasizes its role in raising awareness, challenging stereotypes, and fostering positive social change. The study finds that Wongkito.co portrays women as equals to men in social, political, and economic spheres. By highlighting women’s courage and leadership, it effectively challenges gender stereotypes, fulfilling the press's educational function and advancing the discourse on gender equality. This demonstrates how media can shape societal perceptions and advocate for progressive change.

Abstract

This research aims to see how the campaign strategy on Wongkito.co online media in packaging messages on news channels as a response to the issue of gender equality. This type of qualitative research is descriptive in nature. The subject of the research is the editor-in-chief of Wongkito.co online media. The data used are primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques in this research are observation and interview. The results showed that Wongkito.co online media, as one of the feminist media in Palembang, took part in advocating the theme of gender justice and equality through various rubrics, such as Yundakito, Setara, Katokito, and Bucukito. In practice, Wongkito.co conducts campaigns with the aim of raising the issues of women, children, people with disabilities, minorities, and other vulnerable people. When creating a digital campaign program, there are four steps that must be taken, the problem identification stage, campaign design, campaign implementation, and evaluation. However, Wongkito.co has not implemented the evaluation stage, but only implemented three stages.

Abstract

Transformasi media telah menjadi salah satu tren yang paling mencolok dalam beberapa dekade terakhir. Transformasi ini telah menyebabkan perubahan signifikan dalam cara media beroperasi, didistribusikan, dan dikonsumsi. Salah satu perubahan terpenting yang telah terjadi adalah pergeseran dari media tradisional ke media digital. Media tradisional, seperti televisi, radio, dan surat kabar, telah digantikan oleh media digital, seperti internet, media sosial, dan perangkat seluler. Perubahan ini telah meningkatkan aksesibilitas terhadap informasi dan komunikasi, serta mengurangi biaya produksi dan distribusi. Perubahan lain yang terjadi adalah transformasi model bisnis media. Media tradisional yang mengandalkan pendapatan dari model iklan tradisional menghadapi tantangan yang cukup besar dari media digital yang mengandalkan pendapatan dari berlangganan dan iklan digital. Perubahan ini menyebabkan konsolidasi kepemilikan media, dengan perusahaan media besar yang semakin mendominasi industri media. Transformasi media juga berdampak pada politik. Media telah menjadi kekuatan yang semakin penting dalam proses politik, seringkali bertindak sebagai agen oposisi terhadap pemerintah. Transformasi media juga telah mengubah cara kampanye politik, dengan kampanye politik yang semakin mengandalkan media digital untuk menjangkau para pemilih.
