Abstract

Indonesian people are most harmed by flood hydrometeorological disasters, which cause material and immaterial losses. Floods often occur in some areas of Makassar City due to high rainfall and the high density of people and buildings, especially in the rainy season. This study aims to find out: the rainfall variability in the city of Makassar for 7 years (2017-2023), a map of flood inundation areas in the city of Makassar for 7 years (2017-2023), and the relationship between rainfall variability to flood events using Google Earth Engine (GEE) in the city of Makassar.  This study is quantitative descriptive, using correlation and regression analysis between rainfall variables and flood inundation area.  A cloud-based processing approach. CHIRPS data was used for rainfall analysis in Makassar City (2017-2023), and Sentinel 1 to analyze the distribution of flood inundation. The results showed that 1) rainfall variability occurred in January, February, March, November, and March. With the highest coefficient of variance value with a value of 73% in November. 2) floods that often occur in the sub-districts of Manggala, Biringkanaya, Tamalate, Tamalanrea, and Rappocini. 3) There is a significant relationship between rainfall and events in Makassar City. Spatially there were 12 flood events, temporal flood events for 7 years (2017-2023) occurred in December, January, and February.    The parameters in this study are limited to rainfall and flood inundation, for that the next study is to add various relevant parameters based on Google Earth Engine.

Abstract

Water spinach (Ipomoea aquatica) is a fast-growing leafy vegetable with high nutritional value, making it a potential source of local food and a means to increase household income. This community service was conducted by the lecturers of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Muhammadiyah Buton, together with students, aiming to enhance the technical and managerial capacity of the community in hydroponic water spinach cultivation in Desa Karae. The implement tation method applied a participatory approach through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), interactive extension, technical demonstra tions, and continuous mentoring. Observations revealed that the rocky and less fertile land conditions can be addressed using a simple hydroponic system based on PVC/net pot and rockwool media. This holistic and participatory approach improved community knowledge, skills, and awareness in utilizing home gardens as food and income sources while promoting self-reliance and the replication of hydroponic farming independently.

Abstract

Flooding is one of the natural disasters that often occurs in many cities around the world, including in Makassar City, Indonesia. Flooding can be caused by various factors, such as high rainfall, poor drainage systems, and uncontrolled land use change. The impact of flooding can be very detrimental, both in terms of economic and social, including property losses. this research was conducted using a quantitative descriptive method which aims to describe the results of observations, proving the results of the analysis of the level of flood vulnerability by utilizing the Goole earth engine. Flood-prone areas are areas that from a physical and climatological point of view have the possibility of flood disasters within a certain period of time and have the potential to cause natural damage. Areas that have soil with poor water absorption, or rainfall that exceeds the soil's ability to absorb water. When heavy rains occur, there will be sudden flooding caused by the filling of dry drains with water. The zoning of the level of flood vulnerability in Makassar City is divided into 4, namely very vulnerable, vulnerable, less vulnerable, and not vulnerable. In general, Makassar City is included in the flood-prone class with physical characteristics, namely being in an area with a flat topography of 0-71 meters above sea level, rainfall amount of 2000 - 3000 mm / year, with a vegetation density of 0 to 5 meters, and a fairly low infiltration rate.

Abstract

The Tanarajae Pier in Bonto Manai Village, Pangkep Regency, is a coastal area with extensive mangrove forests along the shoreline. This area has become a focus for several institutions dedicated to mangrove planting activities. Mangrove forests thrive in tidal regions and offer significant ecological and economic benefits, such as carbon sequestration, coastal protection, and habitat provision for marine life. This study aims to examine the conservation efforts of mangrove forests at Tanarajae Pier, identify the types of mangroves planted, and evaluate their functions and benefits for the local community. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews with local residents and officials, as well as direct observations. The results indicate that the mangrove species present at Tanarajae Pier include Rhizophora stylosa, Sonneratia, Rhizophora apiculata, and Avicennia. These mangrove forests serve crucial roles as habitats for marine life, protect against coastal erosion, and support ecotourism initiatives, thereby enhancing community income. The most effective period for mangrove planting is between March and August, accompanied by regular monitoring to ensure optimal growth. The primary challenge in conservation is the presence of waste, which obstructs the growth of mangroves. Effective waste management strategies and increased public awareness about the importance of maintaining a clean environment and the benefits of mangroves are essential for the success of conservation efforts. This study underscores the need for integrated conservation practices to sustain and enhance the ecological and economic benefits provided by mangrove forests at Tanarajae Pier.

Abstract

Panciro Village faces significant problems related to the accumulation of plastic waste that is carelessly dumped in rivers, roadsides, and empty land. This study explores the application of the ecobrick method as an alternative solution to plastic waste. The purpose of this study was to determine the perception of the Panciro Village community regarding waste management with the ecobrick method, evaluate the effectiveness of ecobricks in reducing plastic waste and analyze the challenges and opportunities for implementing ecobricks as an environmentally friendly solution in Panciro Village. This research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through observation, interviews and documentation. The results, the population density of Panciro Village contributed to the increase in waste volume. The positive perception of the community towards ecobricks as a better solution than burning or littering, the effectiveness of ecobricks is considered moderate to significant depending on the level of community participation. The main challenges in implementing ecobricks include the process of shredding waste and the lack of public awareness. Ecobricks have economic value if managed properly. This study recommends technological innovations and more efficient methods to facilitate the process of making ecobricks.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role as a key pillar in strengthening the national economy, including in Sorong City, Southwest Papua Province. However, most MSME actors in this region still face limitations in utilizing digital technology as a marketing tool. In fact, advances in information technology and the high rate of internet penetration in Indonesia offer great opportunities for MSMEs to expand their market networks and enhance business competitiveness. This community service activity aims to improve the knowledge, skills, and awareness of MSME actors regarding the importance of digital-based marketing through a digital marketing socialization program. The implementation methods include material presentation, interactive discussions, and practical simulations using digital platforms. The results show a significant improvement in participants’ understanding of basic digital marketing concepts, their ability to create business accounts, independently upload products, and design simple promotional content using digital applications. In addition, participants demonstrated high enthusiasm throughout the activity and took the initiative to form a digital marketing learning community as a follow-up for continuous mentoring.
