Abstract

Bambangin Village is a riverside village located on the Barito River in the Belawang Subdistrict, Barito Kuala Regency. In Bambangin Village, waste is a serious problem and a major concern for the community. 192 families (81.4%) choose to burn their household waste, and 44 families (18.6%) opt to dispose of waste in the river (Neo Hamid, 2022). This background led the service team to embark on a village transformation project with the concept of zero waste. The aim of this program is to address the waste problem and create an environmentally conscious community in Bambangin Village. The implementation method is based on intervention logic and an empowerment approach, which includes enabling, empowering, and protecting. The service activities are carried out in a live-in format, with the service team staying and actively engaging with the community for 37 days, from July 16 to August 21, 2023. The implemented activities include the activation of a waste bank, awareness campaigns on waste and its management, training on creative waste recycling, and eco-enzyme training. The culmination of these activities is the declaration of the village as waste-free by the head of Bambangin Village and a waste-free village parade by the community and all village officials. The village transformation with the zero-waste concept carried out by the service team has successfully brought about significant changes in the Bambangin Village community. This is evident in the cleaner physical environment of the village and the increased awareness of waste and the environment among the residents. This success is part of the process that has made Bambangin a 'BARASIH' village, where the community is empowered, the environment is pristine, friendly, natural, healthy, innovative, and harmonious. Designing a program based on social mapping and implementing a live-in approach is the key to the success of this service program.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the commodities in Batu Perahu Village, Batang Alai Timur District, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency, which is located on the slopes of the Meratus Mountains. One of the reasons for the low economic growth in society is that the potential of coffee has not been maximized. Therefore, the service team implemented the program "Encouraging a Strategic Coffee Plantation Product Management Model in Batu Perahu Village". This program includes enabling, empowering and protecting which are then described in several activities, namely; 1) Coffee harvesting training; 2) Post-harvest coffee management training; 3) Procurement of post-harvest coffee management tools 4) Formation of farmer groups; 5) Branding Batu Perahu coffee; and 6) Building a marketing network for Batu Perahu coffee. Implementation of the program uses the live-in method in the village for 56 days, which runs from 18 July 2024 to 12 September 2024. The results achieved from this service program are increasing community capacity in harvesting coffee and managing post-harvest coffee which is supported by a pulper machine to support farmers coffee. As well as the formation of a coffee farmer group in Batu Perahu Village. In fact, Batu Perahu coffee already has branding with the name "Kopi Meratus" and also has a clear coffee marketing network. Through this program, the service team believes that the community's economy will improve in a sustainable manner, which has implications for the realization of coffee as a superior commodity and attraction of Batu Perahu Village.

Abstract

This community service program focuses specifically on Baandi-Andi culture and Dayak Meratus language which are threatened to be lost by modernization and social change through a series of activities. Therefore, this program is present as a step in the struggle against cultural diffusion in the Dayak Meratus community. The story archive in Baandi-andi culture includes in-depth interviews, transcripts of interview results, and story narration. Dayak Meratus language archives include vocabulary interviews, live-ins, school assignments, and alphabetizing. The data obtained was then validated through Forum Group Discussion (FGD). This program was implemented in Datar Ajab Village, Hantakan District, Hulu Sungai Tengah Regency. Data was obtained from interviews with resource persons who were considered adequate and mastered the issues that would be the focus of this program. The community service team managed to gather the community's views on the sustainability of their culture. The discussion involved villagers, village officials, and community leaders to identify the most threatened cultures and find solutions for their preservation. The results of this program include the collection of more than 500 vocabularies of the Dayak Meratus language and their meanings, as well as a draft collection of folklores that are an integral part of the Baandi-andi culture. With an archive that can be accessed by the wider community, it is hoped that the wider community can recognize and appreciate the richness of Dayak Meratus culture, and encourage participation in its preservation. The conclusion of this research confirms that the condition of Baandi-andi culture and Dayak Meratus language is increasingly eroded by the times. Therefore, there is a need for strong awareness and concrete actions to preserve the existing cultural heritage.

Abstract

Today's worsening climate change has a significant impact on the economic activities of the community in Jambu Baru Village, Kuripan Sub-district, Barito Kuala Regency. In general, the problems faced are also influenced by the management of economic resources that still depend on traditional methods. Almost all community economic activities have experienced a decline in income as a result of climate change. For example, from beje management, the community still relies heavily on income from the harvest, despite facing harvest uncertainty due to the uncertain season. Adaptation efforts have led to a new source of income, namely fishing tourism by utilizing beje, but is still positioned as additional income. In this case, creative economic opportunities have not been managed to support community adaptation in facing the impacts of climate change. This service program are highlighted problems: (1) The absence of creative and innovative ideas in the development of sustainable fishing tourism in Jambu Baru Village; (2) Women have not played a role in the management and development of fishing tourism in Jambu Baru Village. Problem solutions are designed using a sustainable development approach, which emphasizes the importance of climate change mitigation and adaptation in the context of peatland management. Concretely, the program implemented is strengthening the role of women in realizing sustainable and inclusive tourism. After carrying out village discussions and workshops, women's groups in Jambu Baru Village have creative and innovative ideas for the development of sustainable fishing tourism. The commitment of the women's groups to play an active role as a social base to implement these ideas was also strengthened.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented in Batu Perahu Village, Batang Alai Timur Sub-district, South Kalimantan, with the main objective of improving economic sustainability through the development of a coffee agroforestry system. This village, known as part of the Meratus Mountains, faces economic and infrastructure challenges, making it one of the underdeveloped villages in the region. Local communities, who have a close relationship with nature, have great potential in the management of their natural resources. Through a participatory approach, the program includes the planting of 1,000 Arabica coffee seedlings, which is expected to increase agricultural yields and community income. Initial activities included socialization to introduce the concept of agroforestry to the community, technical training on coffee cultivation, and distribution of coffee seedlings to 26 local farmers. The training was designed to improve knowledge and skills in managing coffee farms as well as how to market the harvest effectively. The program implementation method, which includes living in the village and interacting directly with the community, aims to build trust and active participation. By paying attention to sustainability aspects, it is expected that the program will not only increase coffee production, but also preserve the environment. The results of the program show an improvement in the community's capacity to manage coffee farms and an increase in the size of the plantation. Thus, coffee can become a superior commodity capable of increasing the economic value of Batu Perahu Village, providing new hope for the welfare of the local community.

Abstract

Karang Taruna plays a crucial role in enhancing the social life of the community, particularly in Hinas Kanan Village, Hantakan District. The region has seen a decline in youth engagement in improving the quality of the younger generation, especially in terms of creativity and critical thinking skills. This served as the motivation for the service team to reactivate the Karang Taruna organization to develop and enrich the youth's understanding of their contributions to sustainable development. The younger generation has the potential to maximize the role of Karang Taruna in empowering the community's social welfare. The program aims to create a beneficial atmosphere through various social activities such as organizing Focus Group Discussions on village potential, commemorating the Republic of Indonesia's anniversary with the youth, conducting joint clean-up actions, and exploring tourist attractions with the village youth. The staff team has conducted workshops to strengthen the vision of Karang Taruna with the members and village officials, fostering solidarity and social responsibility among the youth of Hinas Kanan village. This aims to encourage a more active role in community development and greater sensitivity to social issues in their environment. The research emphasizes the importance of the active role of youth in sustainable development and their involvement in decision-making for the future of the village. It can serve as a reference for youth empowerment programs in other villages facing similar challenges and aid in designing more effective and sustainable strategies.
