Abstract

Lidah kucing cake is a dry cake that has a long and thin shape like a cat's tongue. Food products have a good shelf life and are safe for consumption. Food products that can experience this damage include dry products such as biscuits, snacks, and so on. The growth of these microorganisms can be inhibited by adding pedada fruit flour to food products to increase the shelf life of food products. This study aims to determine the effect of shelf life on the nutritional quality of cat's tongue cake substituted for pedada fruit flour. This research method was experimental using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experimental design consisting of 5 treatments for the shelf life of lidah kucing cake, namely 0 days, 7 days, 14 days, 21 days and 28 days. This study also used the main parameters, namely the nutritional value and microbial content of lidah kucing cake as well as supporting parameters, namely organoleptic tests. The results showed that storage time affects the nutritional quality of lidah kucing cakes with pedada fruit flour. There is a decrease in nutritional quality such as protein, fat, carbohydrates, and water content in cat tongue cakes with pedada fruit flour. The optimal storage time is 21 days because the cat's tongue cake can still maintain nutritional quality.

Abstract

Horseshoe crabs, ancient marine arthropods of the Limulidae family, are currently facing significant threats due to overexploitation driven by high demand for their eggs, which are widely consumed, and their hemolymph, which is critical for biomedical applications. This study aims to evaluate the molecular identification and phylogenetic placement of horseshoe crabs in East Java, a region previously unreported in this context. DNA barcoding was employed to analyze the mitochondrial COI gene region, complemented by detailed morphological identification, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the species in this area. A universal primer LCO/HCO was used for PCR, as described in a previous report, and Sanger sequencing was performed to confirm the approximately 655 bp amplification product. This research identifies horseshoe crabs from six distinct locations in East Java as Tachypleus gigas using molecular methods, with genetic analysis indicating>99% similarity to T. gigas sequences in the GenBank database. Morphological examinations of specimens from seven areas further corroborated the presence of T. gigas, distinguished by characteristic serrations along the telson and a single spine on the posterior region of the opisthosoma. The phylogenetic tree, constructed from our genetic data, shows that Tachypleus gigas populations in East Java are clustered in the same clade as those in Southeast Asia, as supported by GenBank records. This study underscores the importance of integrating genetic and morphological approaches for accurate species identification. Moreover, it provides crucial baseline data for developing conservation strategies to preserve Tachypleus gigas populations in East Java, thereby contributing to broader conservation efforts for this species.

Abstract

Pesticides are pollutants that are found in rice fields and rivers. Pesticides that are often used by farmers in Indonesia in eradicating insects are organophosphate insecticides, where they can eradicate insects that are very toxic to fish due to strong neurotoxic substances that inhibit AchE (Acetylcholinesterase) activity. The research aims to examine the effect of organophosphate pesticides on hematology and histopathology of hematopoietic organs in silver rasbora fish. The research method used is an experimental method with a CRD. The parameters observed were hematology and histopathology hematopoietic organ (liver and kidney). The results of this study showed a hematological change in silver rasbora fish where there was a decrease in total erythrocytes (0,59±0,004) and hemoglobin (2,5±0,1) while total leukocytes increased (245,35±15,78). Also, there are differential changes in leukocytes, namely an increased in the number of monocytes (5±1) and neutrophils (24±3), but lymphocytes have decreased in number (72±1). The Histopathology of the fish liver also can found in this research, those damages that are found are erythrocyte infiltration, necrosis picnosis, and karyolysis. Histopathology of fish kidney also can found cloudy sweling, necrosis karyolysis and tubular necrosis.

Abstract

Fluctuating asymmetry of the bilateral meristic characteristic is one of the simple methods that can be used to determine the stability of an individual fish development. This study aims to provide quantitative information about the level of asymmetry of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) in Dunia Air Independent Training Center Marine and Fisheries, Banyuwangi through bilateral meristic characteristic observation.  A total of 120 fish samples (5-7 cm) were measured in this study. Four bilateral meristic characters were calculated i.e. the number of soft pectoral fins, number of soft ventral fins, number of scales on the lateral line up and down. The results show that the highest value of the fluctuating asymmetry of magnitude (FAm) and fluctuating asymmetry of number (FAn) was obtained at the number of scales on the lateral line up those are 2.14 and 0.78, respectively. Meanwhile, the lowest FAm and FAn values obtained from the soft ventral fins which were 1.69 and 0.78, respectively. The sum of the total value of fluctuating asymmetry of each bilateral meristic characteristic was observed. The overall FAm value was 7.83 and the overall FAn value was 2.99. Keywords: fluctuating asymmetry, Nile tilapia, PMKP Dunia Air

Abstract

Feed is the key to success in aquaculture, because it affects the resistance and development of larvae. There are two types of feed given to fish, namely artificial feed and natural feed. One type of natural feed that can be used as an enhancer for aquaculture feed needs is Tetraselmis sp.. So that practice is needed to learn, understand and practice directly the Tetraselmis sp. Natural feed culture techniques. laboratory scale. This research was held at the Brackish Water Aquaculture Center (BBPBAP) Jepara, Central Java for 46 days starting on December 17, 2018 until January 31, 2019. The culture technique consists of several stages including the preparation of tools and equipment, sterilization, fertilizer making, media preparation, calculation of inoculants, nutrition, seedling and maintenance. Based on observations for 16 days, Tetraselmis sp. has four growth phases consisting of adaptation, exponential, stationary and death phases. Tetraselmis sp. experienced the highest density on the tenth day with an average of 109.87 x 104 cells / ml. This shows that the growth of Tetraselmis sp. long enough than other species. After experiencing the exponential phase, Tetraselmis sp. experienced a stationary phase for 3 days and subsequently decreased density to reach 65.22 x 104 cells/ml on the sixteenth day. Abstract

Betta fish (Betta splendens) has export and import potential. Several popular betta fish strains include halfmoon, crown tail, double tail, and placard. We used the observation method to observe four betta fish strains with five replications. The four fish strains were spawned and will be dissected to obtain the female betta fish's gonads. The parameters observed in this study were fecundity, egg diameter, fertility, and hatchability. This study's data analysis method was analysis of variance (ANOVA) with Duncan's multiple range test. Based on the findings of the observations, it is known that the results of betta fish spawning and gonadal dissection on these various betta fish strains show a significant difference in fish fecundity (P 0.05). However, no significant difference in egg diameter, fertility, or hatchability was observed (P > 0.05). Betta splendes strains differ in terms of fecundity, fertility, hatching rate, and egg size.
