Abstract

Nutritional deficiencies in toddlers can lead to growth and development disturbances, one of which is the occurrence of malnutrition. One of the main factors contributing to malnutrition in toddlers is the lack of knowledge among mothers about the nutrition required for their children. To improve this knowledge, one of the efforts that can be made is through continuous counseling using educational media, such as posters that are visually designed to be appealing, thus being effective in the learning process. This study aims to determine the effect of health education using posters on mothers' knowledge about toddler malnutrition in the working area of Saigon Health Center in East Pontianak. This study uses a quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. A total of 45 respondents were selected using probability sampling with a cluster random sampling technique. Data analysis was conducted using the Paired sample t-test. The results showed that most of the respondents' children were aged ≤ 2 years (66.7%), with the highest level of maternal education being high school (42.2%), and the majority of respondents' ages ranged from 20 to 42 years, with an average age of 31.42 years. The results of the Wilcoxon test showed a p-value of 0.001, indicating a significant improvement in mothers' knowledge about toddler malnutrition after receiving health education using posters.

Abstract

Biostatistics is an important subject in nursing education because it contributes to clinical decision-making and health research. However, many nursing students find biostatistics difficult because they are not directly used in nursing practice. This study aims to explore the dynamics of biostatistical learning to improve teaching approaches in the future. The study uses a Mixed Methods Research (MMR) design with an explanatory sequential approach which is carried out in two stages. The first stage involved 94 nursing students to measure satisfaction and concentration in learning. Quantitative results revealed that 80.9% of students were satisfied, although dissatisfaction arose from unclear goals and inappropriate lecture times. In addition, 72.3% of students had moderate concentration, with peer conversation invitations being the main challenge. In the second stage, a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with 8 students explored these findings further. The integration of qualitative and quantitative data identifies key themes, namely clarity of learning objectives, lecture time, classroom atmosphere, technology support, and teaching effectiveness. These findings emphasize the need for better teaching strategies and time management to improve student satisfaction, focus, and understanding of biostatistics. Addressing this dimension will increase the effectiveness of biostatistics education for nursing students.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Joint disease is a disorder characterized by pain in the joints, accompanied by stiffness, redness, and swelling. This condition is not caused by trauma or accidents but by inflammation in the joints. Approximately 335 million people worldwide are affected by joint disease. Some common types of joint diseases include osteoarthritis, pain due to high levels of uric acid (hyperuricemia) in both acute and chronic forms, as well as rheumatoid arthritis. Joint pain is often associated with aging or known as a degenerative disease, thus the prevalence of joint pain in the elderly continues to increase each year. One therapy that can be used to alleviate joint pain is muscle stretching exercise or stretching exercise. This method helps maintain muscle flexibility and strength, thereby reducing tension in the joints and relieving pain. Implements pain management using stretching exercises in family nursing care of elderly and retired families with joint pain problem. The case study was conducted in a family at the developmental stage of the elderly and retirees with joint pain problems which were carried out in the working area of the Kampung Bangka Pontianak Community Health Center with a frequency of 6 meetings. The instruments that are used were SOP stretching exercise checklist sheets and pain scale measurement using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). After the implementation of the stretching exercise demonstration for 4 meetings, there was a decrease in the pain scale experienced by respondents from the previous 7 scale (severe pain) to 3 scale (mild pain). Respondents and families were able to remember and demonstrate the stretching exercises that had been taught. The implementation of stretching exercise demonstrations to families of the elderly and retirees with joint pain problems can reduce the pain scale that the elderly felt, so it is hoped that the elderly are able to do stretching exercises independently or with family support.

Abstract

Background: Public Health Center (PHC) is one of the primary healthcare facilities that has an important role in the chain of survival of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) patients, especially in rural areas. Nurses are an important component of health workers in PHC. Basic Life Support (BLS) knowledgeis the basic component of building a qualified resuscitation.Purpose: To analyze the relationship between demographic characteristics of PHC’s nurses in a rural area and their knowledge about BLS.Method: An observational analytical study with a cross-sectional approach involved 32 PHC nurses with total sampling techniques. The data was analyzed with the Spearman Rho and Fisher Exact test. Results: 32 nurses were involved. Most respondents are male (18/56.25%), have a Diploma educational background (23/71.88%), and non-government employees (24/75%). The average age of respondents was 34.75 years, and the average worked for 9.25 years. The level of knowledge of BLS was mostly more than 56% (25/78.1%). The knowledge average was 74.06+ 8.93 with a median of 75 anda score range of 50-85. Gender, educational background, BLS certificate upgrades, and employment status were not related to the level of knowledge of BLS. Age and length of work variables have a significant correlation with knowledge. Calculated rs was -0.043 with a p-value of 0.008 (α 0.05) for age and rs value of -0.353 with a p-value of 0.024 (α 0.05) for length of work. Conclusion: Gender, educational background, BLS certificate upgrades, and employment status were not related to the level of knowledge of BLS.There is a sufficient and significant relationship between the age and length of workwith knowledge of BLS with the opposite direction of the relationship. The older and longer a nurseworks, the lowerthe nurse’s knowledge of BLS.  Routine BLS training sessions or emergency drills in PHC both online and offline can be some solution in partnership with emergency organizations and nearby referral hospitals.

Abstract

Background: The rapidly growing elderly population faces multiple challenges affecting quality of life, including physical, cognitive, social, and mental decline. Family support and participation in Elderly Posyandu (Integrated Health Post) are considered important factors influencing elderly quality of life, yet their specific relationships in Indonesian urban settings remain underexplored. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationships between family support, elderly activity levels in Posyandu, and quality of life among elderly individuals in the working area of Puskesmas Pal Tiga, Pontianak City. Method: A correlational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted using a purposive sampling technique. The sample consisted of 84 elderly individuals aged 60 years and above registered at Posyandu Lansia Asoka. Data were collected using validated questionnaires measuring demographic characteristics, family support, and quality of life, along with attendance records. Data analysis employed the Spearman rank correlation test with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Results: Among respondents, 98.8% received good family support, 56% were active Posyandu participants, and 97.6% reported good quality of life. Statistical analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between family support and quality of life (r = 0.703, p = 0.000), but no significant relationship between elderly activity levels in Posyandu and quality of life (r = 0.019, p = 0.866). Conclusion: Family support significantly influences elderly quality of life, while Posyandu attendance frequency alone does not directly correlate with quality of life outcomes, suggesting the need for enhanced service quality and family-centered interventions.
