Abstract

Scabies is a contagious skin disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei mite. Scabies causes intense itching, especially at night, rashes, and scratches that can lead to secondary bacterial infections. Sleep disturbances due to itching can reduce quality of life and trigger stress, anxiety, and decreased concentration. People with scabies often experience negative stigma because the disease is related to poor hygiene, even though it can be transmitted through close contact in crowded environments such as homes, schools, or orphanages. The purpose of this study is to analyze the risk factors for scabies at Hidayatul Falah Islamic Boarding School in Rejang Lebong Regency. This study used a cross-sectional design. The sample size was 66 respondents using stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 66 students at Hidayatul Falah Islamic Boarding School in Rejang Lebong Regency and processed using SPSS. The results of the univariate analysis showed that most respondents (60.6%) had poor personal hygiene, most respondents (65.2%) had sufficient knowledge, most respondents (62.1%) lived in densely populated areas, and most respondents (54.5%) had experienced scabies. The bivariate analysis results showed that there was a correlation between personal hygiene and the incidence of scabies (p value = 0.004), a correlation between knowledge and the incidence of scabies (p value = 0.002), and a correlation between housing density and the incidence of scabies (p value = 0.035) at Hidayatul Falah Islamic Boarding School in Rejang Lebong Regency. It is hoped that Islamic Boarding Schools, with the assistance of local health centers, can optimize preventive and promotional programs about factors related to scabies.

Abstract

Background: Stunting is a complex public health issue, influenced by various biological aspects, medical services, and socioeconomic conditions. In Lebong Regency, the prevalence of stunting showed variability, with a recent increase that requires a thorough investigation of its determinants. Reproductive risks in couples of childbearing age (PUS) related to the 4T criteria (too young, too old, too close pregnancy interval, and too many children), the role of health workers, and family prosperity are thought to correlate with stunting prevention.Method: This study employed a quantitative analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, utilizing secondary data from the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN) in 2024. A total of 20,327 families in Lebong Regency became the study population. Following validation and data cleaning stages, 17,922 families were selected as samples using purposive sampling based on the criteria of adequate data completeness. The analyzed variables included reproductive risks of PUS 4T, the role of health workers, family prosperity, and stunting prevention Data analysis included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis using the chi-square test, and multivariate analysis through multiple logistic regression to determine the most influential factors.Result: The investigation revealed that factors including reproductive risk of PUS 4T, health workers’ involvement, and family prosperity conditions significantly correlated with stunting prevention efforts (p<0.001). Multivariate analysis identified reproductive risk of PUS 4T as the most dominant predictive indicator (OR=2.109; 95% CI: 1.958–2.273). Therefore, this study emphasized the need to strengthen reproductive health programs, increase the effectiveness of the role of health workers, and improve family prosperity through an integrated approach. Keywords: Reproductive risk, Health worker, Prosperity, Stunting

Abstract

Introduction: Stunting in children under five years old remains a major global health concern, affecting approximately 22.3% of children worldwide. It contributes to impairments in physical and cognitive development, reduced academic performance, lower economic productivity, and increased susceptibility to non-communicable diseases. This study aims to synthesize comprehensive evidence regarding the determinants associated with stunting in children under five. Methods: A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted using data from 22 eligible studies retrieved from international databases (Scopus, PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Springer). Heterogeneity was assessed using the I² statistic, and a random-effects model was applied to estimate the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI). Publication bias was evaluated using funnel plot visualization and Egger’s test. Results: Meta-analysis findings demonstrate that several determinants significantly increase the risk of stunting, including low maternal education (OR = 1.63; 95% CI: 1.11–2.41; I² = 84.64%), low paternal education (OR = 1.66; 95% CI: 1.05-2.61; I² = 55.64%), maternal occupation (OR = 1.59; 95% CI: 1.09-2.32; I² = 71.16%), low household income (OR = 1.83; 95% CI: 1.30-2.58; I² = 73.72%), and households with two or more young children (OR = 2.34; 95% CI: 1.65-3.30; I² = 23.89%). Additional factors such as inadequate antenatal care (OR = 1.62; 95% CI: 1.07-2.47; I² = 41.71%), non-exclusive breastfeeding (OR = 1.21; 95% CI: 1.60-3.03; I² = 80.25%), incomplete immunization (OR = 2.77; 95% CI: 1.48-5.19; I² = 63.58%), low birth weight (OR = 2.72; 95% CI: 1.61-4.66; I² = 65.71%), and a history of infectious diseases (OR = 1.96; 95% CI: 1.36-2.82; I² = 64.06%) were also strongly associated with stunting. No substantial publication bias was indicated by Egger’s test (p > 0.05). Conclusion:Stunting is influenced by a combination of sociodemographic factors and maternal-child health services, such as parental education, household income, and exclusive breastfeeding. Reducing the prevalence of stunting requires integrated policies that encompass education, health, and family economic empowerment.

Abstract

Skin diseases are commonly caused by bacterial, viral, fungal, parasitic infections, and allergic reactions. According to data from the International Labour Organization (ILO), 160 workers suffer from occupational diseases. Surveillance studies in the United States have reported that 80% of occupational skin diseases are classified as dermatitis. This study aimed to examine the impact of personal hygiene and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) on the incidence of dermatitis at the Sandar Angin Public Health Center in Pagar Alam City. An analytic survey method with a cross-sectional design was employed. Data were collected using a questionnaire administered to 68 patients who visited the Sandar Angin Public Health Center, selected through accidental sampling. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test. The results indicated a significant relationship between personal hygiene (p = 0.035) and the use of personal protective equipment (p = 0.010) with the incidence of dermatitis at the Sandar Angin Public Health Center. It is recommended that the health center implement proper personal hygiene practices, particularly after work-related activities, and ensure the consistent use of personal protective equipment to reduce the risk of dermatitis.

Abstract

Gastritis is a common digestive disorder. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), gastritis is an inflammation of the gastric mucosa that can be acute or chronic. Robbins & Cotran explain that gastritis occurs due to mucosal inflammation triggered by various factors such as Helicobacter pylori infection, alcohol, stress, and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Globally, gastritis remains a significant health problem. In 2021, an estimated 27.20 million people worldwide were living with gastritis and duodenitis, with an incidence rate of 323.24 per 100,000. Meanwhile, in Indonesia, gastritis is a digestive system disease with a relatively high prevalence. National data shows that the prevalence of gastritis has been reported to reach 40.8% of the population. In the context of public health, the incidence of gastritis is significantly influenced by diet, particularly the consumption of foods that can irritate the stomach. Local food is food produced, processed, and consumed locally, such as traditional foods made from tubers, local agricultural products, and traditional dishes. Local food consumption patterns are often influenced by customs, culture, and food availability. While some local foods are healthy and support digestive function, others can trigger stomach irritation if consumed in excess or prepared improperly, such as if they are too spicy, sour, fatty, or fried repeatedly. Therefore, based on existing data, an outreach program on gastritis was conducted in Tanjung Kemuning III Village, targeting the community
