Abstract

This study explores the sociolinguistic characteristics of Generation Alpha's language use on TikTok, a platform blending creativity and social interaction. Examining code-switching, slang, and the influence of visual elements highlights how these features shape digital identities and cultural expression. The research uses qualitative methods like content analysis and user interviews to reveal how Gen Alpha adapts language to TikTok’s standards while challenging traditional linguistic norms. The findings demonstrate that digital communication significantly impacts the language of today’s youth, showcasing Generation Alpha’s sensitivity and inventiveness in coining new terms driven by rapid technological advancements. Social, cultural, and technical factors influence these communication patterns, with video and visual exchanges enhancing communication skills, shaping social identities, and fostering intergenerational connections. This research emphasizes the role of platform-specific language practices in shaping teenage culture and advancing sociolinguistics in social media contexts. It concludes that Generation Alpha employs a relaxed, creative, and trend-sensitive vocabulary, particularly on TikTok, reflecting contemporary digital communication trends. The study underscores the importance of understanding language dynamics in an ever-evolving digital landscape.

Abstract

This study uses a phonetic technique to analyze the vowel sounds in Halsey's “Gasoline” and “Colors” songs. The use of long and short vowels in the lyrics is the subject of the examination. The study aims to present research findings on the long and short vowels in Halsey’s songs “Gasoline” and “Colors.” The writer also determines the impact of long and short vowels on the songs. The research methodology is a qualitative approach. The writer uses phonetics studies to analyze the long and short vowel sounds displayed in a table to provide a thorough understanding of the vowel sounds in the lyrics. According to the study, Halsey's songs' emotional effect is greatly influenced by phonetics, particularly long and short vowels. There are 87 examples of long vowels and 49 of short vowels. In the song "Colors” there are 72 examples of long vowels and 28 of short vowels, demonstrating how vowel articulation such as /iː/, /ɑː/, and /uː/ may improve emotion and intelligibility. Research on the significance of vowel sounds in successful vocal performance is supported by the notion that anatomical elements, such as the location of the tongue and lips, are necessary for appropriate pronunciation. The results provide insights into phonetics and linguistics in lyrics and demonstrate how vowel usage enhances emotional expressiveness in music.

Abstract

The digital communication landscape has undergone a profound transformation, with social media platforms like TikTok emerging as critical sites for linguistic innovation. This research examines the intricate mechanisms of digital slang generation among Generation Z, exploring the complex interplay between technological architecture, user creativity, and sociocultural dynamics. Employing a qualitative content analysis approach, the study investigates linguistic practices within TikTok comment sections, focusing on slang formation mechanisms, algorithmic dissemination, and cultural identity functions. The research reveals sophisticated linguistic strategies including zeroidation, diphthongization, lexical shifts, and code-mixing, demonstrating how Gen Z actively reconstructs communication paradigms. The platform's algorithmic recommendation system facilitates unprecedented rapid language evolution, with slang terms transitioning from marginal usage to widespread adoption within hours. Digital slang serves multifaceted purposes: creating humor, signaling contemporaneity, facilitating social relations, and establishing intimate group identities. The study highlights the tension between linguistic innovation and preservation, suggesting that digital platforms are not passive mediums but active agents in linguistic transformation. By providing a nuanced sociolinguistic lens, the research contributes crucial insights into how digital technologies reshape communicative landscapes and generational identity construction in the 21st century. Abstract

This study explores the function of lexical relations, specifically synonyms and antonyms, within the lyrics of Celine Dion’s album Falling into You. Given language’s role in clear communication, the study examines how meaning relationships between words enhance the listener’s emotional and thematic understanding of song lyrics. Focusing on synonymy and antonymy, these relations are seen as key tools in conveying complex emotions and reinforcing the consistency of thematic elements like love, resilience, and growth. Using a descriptive qualitative method, this analysis categorizes and interprets lexical relations found in five songs, presenting findings in a table to showcase the connections between words and their contributions to lyrical depth. The results show that synonyms such as “afraid” and “fear” or “climb” and “rise” introduce layered meanings, expressing emotions like vulnerability or hope. Similarly, antonyms like “found” and “lost” or “you” and “I” highlight contrasts, amplifying both thematic unity and emotional depth. By identifying and interpreting these semantic choices, the study demonstrates how Dion’s lyrics evoke complex emotional responses and strengthen thematic expression. This research highlights the value of semantic analysis in understanding and appreciating the artistry within song lyrics. It advocates for deeper examination of lexical relations in musical texts, providing a framework for linguistics students and enthusiasts to explore the intersections of language, meaning, and emotional expression.

Abstract

This study investigates grammatical errors in English public signage displayed within the TransJakarta transportation system. It aims to identify, classify, and interpret linguistic inaccuracies and explore their social implications within Jakarta’s multilingual context. Data were collected through direct field observation and documentation of bilingual signs found at bus stops and on buses. The analysis applied grammatical frameworks from Carter and McCarthy (2021) and the error typology of Ariani and Artawa (2022), while sociolinguistic interpretation was guided by Nenotek et al. (2024). To strengthen the theoretical basis, this paper also draws upon recent linguistic studies emphasizing the role of grammar awareness (Wulandari & Harida, 2021; Warregh, 2025) and technological correction models (Qin, 2022; Wang et al., 2024; Zhong & Yue, 2022). Findings reveal frequent grammatical inaccuracies, especially article omission, determiner misuse, and sentence structure omission, mainly caused by literal translation from Bahasa Indonesia. The study concludes that improving linguistic accuracy in public signage enhances clarity, supports inclusivity, and reflects Jakarta’s global image.

Abstract

The title of this study is "The Use of Request Strategy in the Movie Leave The World Behind by Sam Esmail." The purpose of this study is to analyze how characters in the movie make requests or ask someone to do something. The analysis is based on Trosborg's request theory using a descriptive qualitative approach. This study collected 18 data from dialogues in the movie. The analysis found that there are six request strategies used by the characters. The most frequently used strategy is the hint strategy, which allows characters to express their desires implicitly, avoiding the impression of being forceful or offending the listener. Besides the hint strategy, other identified strategies include questioning the hearer’s ability or willingness, statements of the speaker’s wishes and desires, statements of the speaker’s need and demands, statements of obligations and necessities, as well as the use of imperatives. The findings show that the variation in request strategies reflects the social dynamics and relationships among the characters, influenced by the specific context and communication objectives within the movie.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menentukan apakah aktivitas ilokusi ekspresif terjadi dalam film “Aftersun” (2022) dan untuk menyelidiki jenis dan tujuan dari tindakan-tindakan ini dalam konteks yang diberikan. Penelitian ini menerapkan metode kualitatif deskriptif untuk menganalisis data dan memanfaatkan kerangka kerja yang dikemukakan oleh Searle dan Vanderveken. Penelitian ini terutama akan mengajukan dua pertanyaan: Berapa banyak jenis tindakan ilokusi; Jenis-jenis tindakan ilokusi apa yang digunakan dalam film tersebut. Data, yang meliputi percakapan, isyarat, ekspresi, dan hasil, disajikan menggunakan teknik formal dan informal. Analisis tersebut mengungkapkan total 49 contoh tindakan ilokusi ekspresif dalam film tersebut, dengan keluhan muncul sebagai ekspresi yang paling umum, yang terdiri dari 8 ucapan. Dalam penelitian ini, 10 dari 12 tindakan ilokusi ekspresif diperiksa, termasuk permintaan maaf, terima kasih, mengeluh, meratap, protes, menyesalkan, membanggakan, memuji, memuji, dan menyapa.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menemukan dan memahami strategi Ilokusi Permintaan yang digunakan dalam film "oppenheimer", penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif atau pengumpulan data dan teori yang digunakan adalah teori (Trosborg, 2011), teknik yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data dengan melihat film oppenheimer dan melihat naskah film tersebut, memahami dialog dan mengidentifikasi dari film oppenheimer dan mengklasifikasikan ucapan setiap karakter dalam film oppenheimer merupakan permintaan atau tidak. anna menyebutkan bahwa mereka adalah strategi Permintaan: strategi tidak langsung (petunjuk), kondisi berorientasi pendengar, kondisi berbasis pembicara dan permintaan langsung. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi permintaan memiliki 76 data. strategi tidak langsung (petunjuk) terdiri dari 20 data, kondisi berorientasi pendengar terdiri dari 18 data, kondisi berbasis pembicara terdiri dari 16 data dan permintaan langsung terdiri dari 22 data. Permintaan langsung adalah taktik yang paling populer. karena kalimat yang paling banyak digunakan dalam film Oppenheimer adalah kalimat yang merupakan ekspresi langsung.

Abstract

Studi ini menerapkan teori Trosborg (1995) pada strategi permintaan Emma Woodhouse dalam film Emma (2020), yang disutradarai oleh Autumn de Wilde. Penggunaan permintaan oleh Emma menunjukkan status sosial, kepercayaan diri, dan hubungannya, serta aturan hierarkis Regency England. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab tiga pertanyaan kunci: Jenis strategi permintaan apa yang digunakan Emma Woodhouse dalam film tersebut; Bagaimana strategi ini mencerminkan status sosial dan hubungannya dengan karakter lain; Apa fungsi strategi permintaan Emma dalam film tersebut. Analisis deskriptif kualitatif studi ini mengungkapkan bahwa strategi langsung paling sering digunakan, terutama dengan karakter berstatus sosial rendah, seperti Harriet atau pembantunya. Pendekatan ini sejalan dengan rasa kekuasaan Emma dan posisi istimewanya dalam masyarakat. Sebaliknya, Emma menggunakan strategi tidak langsung dan sopan dengan individu dengan kedudukan sosial yang sama atau lebih tinggi, seperti Tuan Elton atau Frank Churchill, yang menunjukkan pemahaman tentang kesopanan sosial dan menjaga muka. Analisis ini menunjukkan bagaimana strategi permintaan Emma mencerminkan perkembangan pribadinya, yang menunjukkan perubahan dari ketegasan menjadi empati saat ia menegosiasikan harapan masyarakat. Studi ini menekankan hubungan antara bahasa, dinamika sosial, dan pengembangan karakter, yang menjelaskan bagaimana metode permintaan berfungsi sebagai alat pengaruh dan penanda hubungan dalam latar sejarah.

Abstract

Makalah ini menawarkan pemeriksaan menyeluruh terhadap tindak tutur ilokusi ekspresif yang digunakan dalam film Cruella dari tahun 2021. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap cara-cara rumit di mana bahasa digunakan untuk menyampaikan emosi, sikap, dan perasaan dengan berkonsentrasi pada alur cerita emosional dan dialog karakter. Berbagai perangkat linguistik, seperti kata kerja performatif, bahasa emotif, dan berbagai tindak tutur, akan diperiksa dalam analisis ini. Kata kerja performatif, termasuk "berjanji," "meminta maaf," dan "memerintah," adalah kata kerja yang, ketika diucapkan, melakukan aktivitas. Bahasa emotif mengekspresikan emosi secara langsung melalui penggunaan metafora, kata keterangan, dan kata sifat. Tindak tutur dapat diperiksa untuk dampak emosionalnya dan memenuhi berbagai fungsi komunikatif. Tindak tutur ini meliputi instruksi, pertanyaan, janji, dan pernyataan. Dengan memeriksa secara cermat komponen-komponen linguistik ini, penelitian ini akan menyelidiki bagaimana karakter dalam film mengekspresikan emosi mereka dan bagaimana ekspresi ini cocok dengan cerita secara keseluruhan. Lebih jauh, dengan mempertimbangkan unsur-unsur seperti konteks sosial, dinamika kekuasaan, dan latar belakang budaya, artikel ini akan meneliti hubungan antara keadaan emosional karakter dan penggunaan bahasa. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk memperjelas hubungan rumit antara bahasa dan emosi dalam film dengan menawarkan wawasan tentang bagaimana tindakan ilokusi ekspresif dapat meningkatkan keterlibatan penonton dan penceritaan.
