Abstract

The integration of technology in early childhood education has garnered significant attention worldwide. In 2021, Indonesia embarked on an ambitious journey to incorporate technology-enabled learning into its educational framework. This study retrospectively examines the socioeconomic disparities that emerged from this endeavor. Through extensive data analysis and assessments, it was observed that the introduction of technology in early childhood education had a mixed impact on the educational outcomes of children from various socioeconomic backgrounds. While children from affluent families exhibited enhanced digital literacy and cognitive development, those from economically disadvantaged households encountered disparities in access to technology and resources. The digital divide became more pronounced, leading to disparities in academic achievement. Furthermore, it was found that educators and policymakers encountered significant challenges in adapting the curriculum to address these disparities. The study also highlights the importance of addressing issues related to infrastructure and equity in technology access in early childhood education, ensuring that all children have an equal opportunity to thrive. These findings emphasize the necessity for a more inclusive and equitable approach to integrating technology in early childhood education, aiming to bridge the socioeconomic gaps and provide a level playing field for all children, thereby fostering a more equitable and promising educational landscape in Indonesia.

Abstract

This comparative analysis explores the economic impacts of sustainable tourism on local communities in Bali and North Sumatra, Indonesia. The study highlights the significance of understanding the specific contexts of these regions and examines the economic benefits, challenges, and policy initiatives related to sustainable tourism development. The research methodology involved a comprehensive literature review and data analysis. The selection criteria for comparative analysis and the variables and indicators used were carefully considered to ensure a comprehensive examination of the economic impacts of sustainable tourism in Bali and North Sumatra. The findings reveal positive economic outcomes in both regions, including job creation, income generation, and support for local businesses. However, Bali exhibits a more significant economic impact with its more developed tourism industry than North Sumatra. This difference can be attributed to factors such as higher tourist influx and better tourism infrastructure in Bali. The comparative analysis also uncovers common challenges locals face in both regions, including infrastructure development, resource management, cultural preservation, community engagement, capacity building, marketing strategies, and equitable distribution of benefits. Addressing these challenges is essential for sustaining the economic benefits of sustainable tourism and ensuring the preservation of natural and cultural resources. In conclusion, this comparative analysis highlights the economic impacts of sustainable tourism in Bali and North Sumatra. It emphasizes the need to address challenges and implement effective policies to maximize economic benefits and ensure a more equitable distribution for local communities.

Abstract

This paper presents a research study investigating the effectiveness of Storynomics as a novel strategy for enhancing consumer engagement in the tourism industry during the digital era. Recognizing the influential role of stories in inspiring connections between travelers and destinations, the study also acknowledges the significance of technology in integrating storytelling into tourism. Storynomics, the proposed approach, combines the power of storytelling with digital technology to create captivating and immersive tourist experiences. A mixed-methods research approach was employed to explore the implementation and impact of Storynomics in the tourism industry. The research commenced with a comprehensive literature review, gathering theoretical foundations and existing knowledge on storytelling, technology, and consumer engagement in tourism. This review was the basis for developing a conceptual framework for Storynomics in tourism. Following the literature review, a series of practical case studies focused on successful Storynomics implementations by tourism companies. These case studies involved qualitative interviews with industry professionals, analysis of narrative content, and examination of social media platforms and interactive applications employed by these companies. The findings from the case studies were synthesized to provide valuable insights into the application of Storynomics in the tourism industry. The study highlights how the synergy between storytelling and digital technology can generate compelling and personalized experiences, drive consumer engagement, and contribute to broader marketing objectives and business growth.

Abstract

This study examined effective practices in higher education leadership for shaping students' character within an Islamic framework. Drawing from moral and ethical development theory, virtue ethics, and positive psychology, it explored the intricate relationship between leadership, character development, and Islamic principles. Through an in-depth analysis of character development initiatives in Islamic-focused higher education institutions, the study identified vital strategies: curriculum integration, faculty training, assessment, community engagement, cultural competency, and holistic support services. Additionally, it emphasized the importance of promoting critical thinking and reflection to help students evaluate their values against Islamic principles. Leadership theories like transformational, servant, and ethical leadership were highlighted to guide leaders to align with Islamic values such as justice, trustworthiness, and consultation. Case studies of the successful integration of Islamic guidance into leadership approaches offered insights for other institutions. Nonetheless, the study recognized existing research gaps and the need for further exploration of leadership practices and the long-term impact of character development initiatives.

Abstract

This study explored innovative approaches to research skill development frameworks for evaluating problem-solving skills in design projects within the context of Indonesian higher education. The research focused on enhancing problem-solving skills, which are crucial for success in design-related fields, by incorporating elements of design thinking principles and John Willison's Research Skill Development (RSD) framework. The study employed a mixed-methods research design, combining qualitative and quantitative methods to assess the innovative frameworks' effectiveness comprehensively. Through developing and integrating these frameworks into design project courses, students were guided through problem identification, research methodologies, data collection, and solution prototyping. Faculty members played a facilitating role in this process. The comparative analysis between the innovative frameworks and traditional assessment methods revealed that the former significantly outperformed the latter. Students engaged with the frameworks exhibited enhanced creativity, adaptability, and metacognitive reflection in their problem-solving approaches. They demonstrated growth in problem identification, research strategies, and critical evaluation of information sources. This study has significant implications for Indonesian higher education, emphasizing the advantages of innovative assessment methods in design education. The research skill development frameworks offer a dynamic and holistic approach to problem-solving skill development, preparing graduates to excel in the competitive and evolving design industry. However, challenges related to adaptation and resource allocation were acknowledged. Ultimately, this research underscores the transformative potential of research skill development frameworks in enhancing problem-solving skills, bridging the gap between theory and practice, and preparing graduates to shape future design in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study comprehensively examines curriculum alignment within Indonesian higher education, focusing on the dynamic interplay of academic disciplines and regional influences. Utilizing a mixed-method approach, we explore the alignment of curricula in selected disciplines, including technical and social sciences, across diverse Jakarta, Surabaya, and Makassar regions. Our findings reveal significant variations in alignment, with technical disciplines demonstrating higher adaptability to industry demands while the humanities face distinct challenges. Moreover, regional disparities in curriculum alignment are identified, driven by industry concentration and geographical isolation. Notably, closely aligned curricula are linked to higher income growth, reduced unemployment, and enhanced industry competitiveness. The study emphasizes the pivotal role of stakeholder engagement in shaping curricula and fostering alignment. This research contributes valuable insights for policymakers, educators, and industry leaders seeking to enhance curriculum alignment and, in turn, bolster regional and national economic development in the context of Indonesian higher education.
