Abstract

Data and information explain that the catch of small pelagic species including Tetengkek in the waters of the Indian Ocean has decreased (Sadhotomo & Atmaja, 2012), the total catch of Tetengkek in 2023 is 1,126 tons, down 60% compared to the total catch in 2019 (BPS, 2024). This information is an early indication that small pelagic fishery resources are getting closer to over-fishing and in the future will become a problem for the livelihoods of fishermen, including fishermen in Palabuhanratu Bay. This study aims to determine the status of Torpedo Scad fish (Megalaspis cordyla) in Palabuhanratu Bay based on catches landed at the Palabuhanratu Nusantara Fisheries Port and to recommend the management of Torpedo Scad fish resources with an ecosystem approach. The ecosystem approach is based on two of the six domains of the Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM), namely the domains of fish resources, and fishing technology. A multi-criteria analysis was performed on the composite index for each of EAFM indicators. Furthermore, measures and recommendations for resource management are formulated based on the objectives of the EAFM. The results of the study show that the status of Scad torpedo fish management in Palabuhanratu Bay is generally "Good", where in the Fish Resources domain the status is "Good" (70.33), and in the Fishing Technology domain is 'Very Good' (83.33). Recommendations for the management of Tetengkek fisheries in Palabuhanratu Bay are: 1) the use of information technology to ensure fishing ground; and 2) certification of fishing vessel crews

Abstract

The production of capture fisheries in a water area can increase or decrease, this is known from the value of Catch per Unit Effort (CPUE). This study aims to calculate the CPUE value of small pelagic fish in the JMF triangle and explain correlation of CPUE with environmental factors (sea surface temperature and chlorophyll-a). The data analyzed were Aqua-MODIS image, SNPP-VIIRS image, and capture data. The analysis used simple correlation and regression tests to determine the relationship of CPUE to sea surface temperature (SST) and chlorophyll-a, further strengthened by overlay techniques for its descriptive. Information is presented in the form of spatial and temporal thematic maps and infographics. The results showed a trend of increasing the total CPUE of small pelagic fish production for the 2012-2015 period. The highest seasonal CPUE occurs in the Western Season period, and the lowest in the Transitional Season II. The highest CPUE value occurred in January 2013 with a value of 0.54 tons/ship, while the lowest CPUE was in September 2015 with a value of 0.052 tons/ship. Layang, Banyar and Bentong species responded negatively to SST, especially in the Eastern Season, while Lemuru showed no direct relationship to SST. Lemuru's response to chlorophyll-a showed a positive value, where it was seen that an increase in chlorophyll-a concentration was followed by an increase in CPUE, while Layang, Banyar and Bentong showed that an increase in the value of chlorophyll-a concentration did not directly affect the increase in the CPUE value of the three species.

Abstract

Feed is the largest contributor to operational costs (50-60%) in intensive vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cultivation, so inefficient feed management can substantially erode profitability. This case study aims to analyze the technical and economic impact of the implementation of an Automatic Shrimp Feeder (ASF) integrated with Internet of Things (IoT) technology and powered by solar energy on PT's intensive shrimp ponds. Mina Balng Berkah, Sukabumi. The research uses mixed methods with qualitative descriptive analysis. The results show that ASF adoption has a significant positive impact. Feed efficiency increased sharply, as indicated by a decrease in the Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) from 1.5 to 1.25. Apart from that, the use of ASF also has an impact on increasing the Survival Rate (SR) and cultivation productivity. From an economic aspect, feed efficiency and reduced labor requirements for feeding (from 3 to 2 people per cycle) result in reduced operational costs and increased production value, which leads to an increase in net profitability of more than twofold. The application of ASF based on IoT and solar energy has proven to be the optimal solution for achieving precision aquaculture, increasing resource efficiency, and being effective in increasing the productivity and sustainability of shrimp farming.
