Abstract

Occupational Safety and Health are very important things to implement in the work environment to protect the risk of accidents. A light fire extinguisher (APAR) is a tool used to control fires. Not all companies provide fire extinguishers, even though this tool is very important as a lifesaver if a fire occurs so that the fire does not spread. The wood industry is one of the largest industries in Indonesia thanks to its abundant natural resources. Pallet wood factory is a company engaged in wood production producing pallet wood products. Problems that occur in the UD industry. Ri Wood lacks awareness about occupational safety and health, one of which is the provision of inappropriate APARs and inappropriate maintenance of APARs. By conducting observations using qualitative methods through data collection, interviews and documentation. And from the results of the calculations that have been carried out, we strongly recommend that the company increase the maintenance and provision of APARs in accordance with Permenakertrans Number 4 of 1980, around five APARs for a total of six APARs. Because every production process has the potential for fire.

Abstract

The amount of domestic wastewater without prior treatment is discharged into water bodies so that it is felt that the quality is decreasing day by day. Organic content and microorganisms are a concern in terms of quality. The high content of organic and microorganisms such as Total coliform. Decreasing these parameters is the main goal in this study. In the aerobic process, organic processing uses an air supply of 20 L/min in suspended and attached treatment for attached media using K5 caldnes media and spiked bioball, each of which is 30% of the reactor volume, preceded by the seeding and acclimatization process. Variations in processing time used were suspended for 2 hours and attached for 6 hours and vice versa. Furthermore, it is processed by simultaneous physical processing, namely the process of deposition and sterilization with exposure and deposition times of 2 to 6 hours. Based on the results of the study showed that seeding and acclimatization were carried out for 21 days. The best processing was obtained using suspension for 2 hours, attached for 6 hours on kaldnes K5 media and precipitation as well as exposure to ultraviolet light for 6 hours showed a decrease in COD of 92.85% and for Total coliforms of 98.67%. Abstract

Laundry business activities produce waste water from the washing process and have the potential to pollute water bodies. The number of domestic laundry activities is currently experiencing significant growth, as these activities increase, the amount of waste water released is also increasing. So far, the waste water produced has been directly discharged into the environment. Initial testing of the sample showed that the results did not meet the threshold according to East Java Governor Regulation No. 72 of 2013, so it is necessary to treat waste water effectively. In this research, laundry wastewater was treated using an oxidation ditch. The multilevel modified Parit Oksidasi is made from an activated sludge unit. Seeding and acclimatization takes 14 days to obtain optimum processing. The best variation uses 3 wavemaker units to reduce COD by 91.87%, phosphate by 98.49% and TDS by 57.21%. Apart from that, other contents in the sludge were also identified, namely oxygen (44.28%), carbon (21.25%), sodium (9.73%), calcium (7.11%), silica ( 4.46%), Sulfide (4.36%), Magnesium (2.73%), Chlorine (2.68%), Potassium (1.59%), Iron (0.61) and Phosphorus (0.07 %).

Abstract

The sandal industry is one of the industries that poses health risks to workers, particularly due to the physical conditions of the work environment and the production process, which serve as potential hazards. One form of control  that can be implemented is the measurement of physical factors in the workplaces. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to measure the physical hazard factors, specifically noise and lighting, and to describe the potential health risks faced by workers in a shoe manufacturing company in Surabaya. This research employed an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 25 respondents selected using a total sampling technique. The study was conducted from Juli to August 2024. Data on respondents’ characteristics were collected through interviews using a questionnaire, while blood pressure was measured using an Omron digital sphygmomanometer. Blood pressure was assessed before and after work on the same day. Physical factors in the work environment, such as noise, were measured using a sound level meter, and lighting was measured using a lux meter. The results showed that the average noise level range from 80.5-82.4 dBA, which l does not exceed the threshold limit value (TLV) of 85 dBA according to the Minister of Manpower Regulation No. 5 of 2018 concerning Occupational Safety and Health in the Work Environment. The average lighting level 107.8 lux, which is below the minimum lighting standard for sewing activities, s (500-700 lux), based on the Minister of Health Regulation No. 70 of 2016 concerning Standards and Requirements for Environmental Health in Industrial Workplaces. Health examinations showed an increase in average systolic and diastolic blood pressure s among the workers. Further examination is required to determine whether physical factors in the work environment contribute to the observed  increase in blood pressure among workers in the sandal and shoe industry.  Keywords: Work environment measurement, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Informal Sector, Safety
