Abstract

Early childhood educators, especially in faith-based institutions, need to have a deep understanding of children's spirituality in order to design and respond to spiritual experiences that arise spontaneously. This study aimed to explore the personal insights and experiences of educators regarding spirituality, as well as their understanding and approaches in fostering spirituality among young children. A qualitative research design was employed, guided by three key questions. The sample included nine educators from a faith-based early childhood program in Kudus, Central Java, specifically involved with 3 and 4-year-olds in class A, which consisted of three classes. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. Findings indicated that the personal insights and experiences of educators play a pivotal role in boosting children's spirituality. Consequently, there are significant opportunities to support educators in their own development and to provide relevant information regarding children's spirituality. Based on the findings, it is suggested that to effectively nurture children's spirituality, educators should cultivate their own sense of personal spirituality, which entails having experienced spiritual events in their own lives essentially spiritual formation. Additionally, educators must possess the knowledge and skills to reflect on their spirituality and effectively integrate these experiences with their early childhood teaching methodologies in order to create meaningful spiritual opportunities for children. The study recommends enhancing the competencies of educators in promoting the spirituality of young children. This research contributes valuable insights into the understanding of spirituality within religious-affiliated early childhood education settings.

Abstract

Grandparenting is child care carried out by grandparents for certain reasons. Child care should be the responsibility of both parents, but due to several factors the child's care has been transferred to his grandparents. Grandparenting parenting can shape a child's character. The method in this research uses descriptive qualitative research. The results of the research show that the parenting style used by grandparents in forming children's character in Lamongan applies 3 children's character formation, namely religious character, independent character and disciplinary character. The impact of grandparenting parenting on children's character development is that children tend to be more spoiled, very difficult to tell, stubborn, and all their grandchildren's requests are always granted. It can be concluded that a small percentage of the subjects of this research have a character that tends to be spoiled, in the sense that their every wish must be fulfilled by the grandparents.

Abstract

Many parents work outside the home fora long duration of time, making parents less involved in childcare, especially in their play activities. The purpose of this study is to describe and analyze parents' participation in children's play activities at home. The targets of this study were five households with children (5-6 years old). In Kalongan village, East Ungaran, there are working and unemployed parents. This research was designed using a descriptive qualitative method. Interview, observation, office research, documentary research and triangulation were used as data collection techniques. The results showed that parents who participated in play activities at home during childhood were mostly the same, i.e. working and unemployed parents with advanced education and moderate economic status. Then the type of parents with a weak economic background is also decreasing. On the other hand, the participation of other people in children's activities depends on the size of the family.

Abstract

General Background: Bullying remains a recurring problem in educational settings, including early childhood education, where children are in a crucial stage of social and emotional development. Specific Background: Family plays a central part in preventing bullying, yet fathers’ roles are often overlooked because paternal involvement is frequently associated with economic responsibility rather than emotional caregiving. Knowledge Gap: Research on fathers’ psychological presence in shaping anti-bullying character in early childhood, particularly in early childhood education contexts, remains limited. Aims: This study examines the role of fathers’ psychological presence in forming anti-bullying character among young children at Assa’adah Kindergarten. Results: Using a qualitative case study, the findings show that fathers’ psychological presence appears through involvement in daily caregiving, warm communication, value transmission, and behavioral modeling. Anti-bullying character formation is reflected in children’s emotional control, empathy, self-confidence, assertive responses, and willingness to report harmful behavior without retaliation. Differences in paternal occupation shaped patterns of involvement, yet the quality of emotional engagement was more decisive than the amount of time spent together. Novelty: This study highlights fathers’ psychological presence as the central analytical focus and connects it directly with anti-bullying character formation in early childhood education. Implications: The findings support father-inclusive parenting programs and school-family collaboration as practical strategies for early bullying prevention. Highlights• Fathers’ psychological presence was reflected in caregiving, warm interaction, value transmission, and role modeling.• Anti-bullying character was shaped through emotional regulation, empathy, self-confidence, and safe reporting habits.• Emotional engagement mattered more than time quantity across different paternal occupational backgrounds. KeywordsFathers’ Psychological Presence; Anti-Bullying Character; Early Childhood Education; Emotional Engagement; Parenting Involvement

Abstract

General Background: Early childhood education requires play-based learning that allows children to explore, express ideas, and develop cognitive, social-emotional, and language abilities through meaningful experiences. Specific Background: Loose parts box activities provide open-ended materials that children can move, combine, modify, and reconstruct, while challenge cards offer light scaffolding to guide exploration without limiting freedom. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies have mostly reported outcomes of loose parts use, while the learning processes, problem-solving patterns, resilience, and child interaction during structured open-ended play remain insufficiently explored. Aims: This qualitative case study examined the use of loose parts boxes with challenge cards in developing creativity and problem-solving skills among 13 children aged 5–6 years through participant observation, teacher interviews, and documentation across six meetings. Results: The findings showed progressive improvement in independent material exploration, object combination into new constructions, repeated attempts after failure, verbal expression of original ideas, and independent use of challenge cards. Three problem-solving patterns emerged: trial and error, creative adaptation, and peer collaboration. Challenge cards functioned as scaffolding, while resilience appeared when children changed strategies after failure. Novelty: The study reveals how loose parts boxes combined with challenge cards create a structured yet flexible play environment that supports exploration, adaptation, and collaborative problem solving. Implications: This medium can serve as an inclusive alternative for play-based early childhood learning, although contextual findings require cautious generalization. Highlights • Open-ended materials encouraged independent exploration and new object construction.• Challenge cards provided scaffolding without restricting children’s exploratory freedom.• Trial and error, adaptation, and peer collaboration appeared naturally during activities. Abstract

This study was motivated by the low level of engagement and understanding of numeracy concepts among early childhood learners due to conventional and less interactive learning methods. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of Interactive Flat Panel (IFP)-based digital learning in improving early childhood numeracy skills. This study also examined differences in numeracy abilities before and after the implementation of IFP and its influence on children’s engagement and understanding of numeracy concepts. The study employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. The subjects were children aged 5–6 years at TK Budi Luhur Sugio. Data were collected through observation, tests, and documentation. Data analysis techniques included descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test, and Pearson correlation test. The results showed that Interactive Flat Panel (IFP)-based digital learning was effective in improving early childhood numeracy skills. There was a significant difference between pretest and posttest results after the implementation of IFP. The use of IFP also had a positive influence on children’s engagement and understanding of numeracy concepts during the learning process. Interactive technology-based learning media were able to create a more active, interesting, and enjoyable learning atmosphere for children.
