Abstract

Utilization of cocoa pod waste (Theobroma cacao) as a supercapacitor carbon electrode through electrolyte optimisation was successfully conducted with 0.5M KOH chemical activator. Carbon production starts with slicing cocoa pods, sun drying, pre-carbonisation, crushing of carbon particles with mortar and ball milling, and particle size uniformity using a sieve. The obtained particle powder was chemically activated with 0.5M KOH, coin-molded into of carbon monolith and finished with integrated pyrolysis. Samples were subjected to one-stage integrated pyrolysis by carbonisation from room temperature to 600˚ C in an N2 gas environment, followed by physical activation to 700˚ C in a CO2 gas environment. Testing the electrochemical properties of carbon electrodes based on different types of electrolytes (H2SO4, KOH, and Na2SO4) IM using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and galvanostatic charge discharge (GCD) methods. The sample provided with H2SO4 electrolyte was confirmed to have the highest specific capacitance of 412.94 F/g at a current of 1 A/g. Based on the results of this study, it is confirmed that cocoa pods have the potential to be a source of electrode base material with H2SO4 electrolyte solution as a source of charge carrier in supercapacitor cell devices.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of the size and material of spherical nanoparticle dimers placed on the back surface layer of CIGS solar cells on the resulting current density. This research was conducted computationally using the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method. Three materials were studied: silver, gold, and aluminium. For each material, nanoparticle diameter was varied. The calculation results show that the short circuit current density (Jsc) increases with the nanoparticle diameter. Silver nanoparticle dimers showed the highest increase in Jsc. A sphere diameter of 60 nm produces the highest Jsc. The increase in the Jsc of CIGS solar cells is due to the back reflection of light into the active layer of solar cells by nanoparticles and the near field excitation around nanoparticle dimers. The significant increase in Jsc shows the potential for utilizing silver nanoparticle dimers to increase the efficiency of CIGS solar cells.

Abstract

TiO2 nanoparticles and TiO2 – Graphite nanocomposite has been successfully synthesized by a simple heating method in a polymer solution. The particles formed were applied to measure the degradation time of harmful compounds in cigarette smoke using visible light. The polymer used was PEG 6000. The synthesis was carried out at a temperature of 600 °C with a holding time of 0 hour, 0.5 hours, and 1 hour. The results of XRD and UV Vis DRS characterization showed that the crystal size formed was 26.5 nm, and the bandgap energy was 2.98 eV, 2.95 eV, 3.07 eV, and 3.9 eV for TiO2 without holding time, TiO2 – G with a hold time of 0 hours, 0.5 hours, and 1 hour. The increase in holding time resulted in more stable crystals and had a higher degree of crystallinity. TiO2 – G nanocomposite can degrade cigarette smoke faster than TiO2 without graphite because the addition of graphite increasesthe light absorption ability of TiO2 in the visible light region. This matter shows that TiO2 – G nanocomposites are more efficient in degrading cigarette smoke than TiO2 nanoparticles without graphite.

Abstract

Physics is still a subject that is less popular among high school students. Therefore, the physics curriculum should 1) guide teachers and students to the inquiry process to support students' achievement in learning science and 2) be designed to include fun experimental or observational activities for students. With today's sophisticated technology, physics experiments can be more easily accessed anywhere and anytime using a virtual laboratory. One of the free and easily accessible virtual laboratories for learning physics is PhET Colorado. The community service team from the Unand Physics Department designed a module related to experiments that is available on the PhET Colorado website and conducted online practicums at SMAN 2 Sipora. This community service activity aims to improve students' understanding of physics. About 90% of the students agreed and strongly agreed that activities like this benefit understanding the material in physics.

Abstract

Tingginya korban jiwa saat bencana gempa bumi dan tsunami di Indonesia memerlukan perhatian yang serius dari semua pihak. Salah satu faktor yang dapat meminimalisir hal itu adalah adanya edukasi mitigasi evakuasi gempa bumi dan tsunami. Oleh karena itu sebagai bagian dari akademisi, tim pengabdian Departemen Fisika Universitas Andalas memilih topik tentang edukasi mitigasi bencana gempa dan tsunami di SMAN 2 Sipora Kepulauan Mentawai, Sumatera Barat. Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam bentuk edukasi atau penyuluhan tentang gempa bumi dan tsunami, pemasangan rambu-rambu jalur evakuasi, simulasi evakuasi, dan pengisian kuisioner guna melihat umpan balik kegiatan dan menelaah kesiapsiagaan bencana secara menyeluruh. Dari hasil kegiatan yang dilaksanakan dapat disimpulkan pengetahuan dan pemahaman tentang mitigasi dari siswa dan guru meningkat dengan persentase yang bervariasi. Siswa dan guru juga mengharapkan adanya pelatihan mitgasi bencana ini secara berkala. Sementara itu, menelaah kesiapsiagaan bencana di sekitar SMAN 2 Sipora, masyarakat membutuhkan perhatian yang serius dari pemerintah tentang peningkatan infrastuktur yang memadai, seperti: izin mendirikan bangunan semestinya memenuhi struktur bangunan tahap gempa, akses jalan yang baik, sistem peringatan dini tsunami dan shelter yang kokoh yang telah memenuhi pengkajian lokasi optimal daerah pesisir pantai.

Abstract

This study reports the optical behaviors of SiO₂@Ag and SiO₂@Au core-shell ellipsoidal nanoparticles in terms of polarization of light and geometrical parameter changes. The particles showed two strong modes of resonances, longitudinal and transversal, which could be controlled by rotating the polarization of incident light by 90° and thus could find applications as sensor and optical switch devices. While the resonant wavelength is independent of polarization direction, while maximum extinction values indicate pronounced changes. SiO₂@Ag nanoparticle exhibit higher maximum extinction as well as the peak of resonance at a shorter wavelength than SiO₂@Au. Furthermore, an increase in the ratio of core diameter to shell induces a blue-shift and increasing extinction value. The overall particle size has no influence on the location of the peak of the resonance but increases the extinction intensity. The larger ratio of short axis to long axis also brings about blue-shift in longitudinal resonances. The finding demonstrates that core-shell structure control and morphology control can be used to engineer nanoparticle optical performance in diverse nanophotonic applications.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of phenethylammonium iodide (PEAI) doping on grain size and absorption of the methylammonium lead iodide (MAPbI3) perovskite layer. The MAPbI3 perovskite layer is interesting to study because of its potential application in perovskite solar cells. In this study, the preparation of MAPbI3 perovskite layer with PEAI doping variation using a 2-step spin-coating method. The surface morphology of MAPbI3 shows an increase in grain size with the addition of PEAI doping variation. The optimum grain size is shown by adding 1.0 mg/ml PEAI doping variation, which is 117 ± 1.19 nm with a smooth surface morphology and tends to be homogeneous. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results on Perovskite MAPbI3 showed no difference in peaks with the addition of PEAI doping. However, there is only a slight angle shift of 2 theta, 0.05° at the main peak (110) and (220), so it will not change the cubic structure of MAPbI3 crystal. The ultra violet visible (UV-Vis) graph shows an increase in absorbance of Perovskite MAPbI3 with the addition of PEAI doping in the wavelength range of 400-550 nm. This research is expected to be a foundation for developing more efficient and stable solar cells.

Abstract

Telah dilakukan sintesis nanopartikel Fe3O4 dari batuan besi menggunakan metode kopresipitasi dengan penambahan asam laurat sebagai zat aditif. Variasi massa asam laurat yang diberikan adalah 0, 35,40, 45, dan 50 g. Karakterisasi sampel yang dilakukan meliputi karakterisasi morfologi permukaan sampel menggunakan SEM, ukuran kristal menggunakan XRD (X-Ray Difractometer) dan BartingtonMagnetic Susceptibility Meter (MS2B) untuk mengukur nilai suseptibilitas magnetik. Hasil karakterisasi menggunakan XRD menunjukan ukuran kristal semua sampel berturut-turutadalah54,4; 31,9; 29,5; 33; dan 20,2 nm. Hasil karakterisasi SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) menunjukan distribusi partikel yang paling merata/seragam didapatkan pada sampel dengan penambahan asam laurat sebanyak 45 g dengan ukuran partikel berkisar antara 25-64 nm.Pengukuran nilai suseptibilitas magnetik berturut-turut adalah 2757,1×10-8; 1479,0×10-8; 948,5×10-8; 3344,2×10-8; dan 1174,7×10-8 m3kg-1.Kata kunci: nanopartikel Fe3O4, kopresipitasi, asam laurat, suseptibilitas magnetik

Abstract

Telah dilakukan sintesis dan karakterisasi struktur dan sifat optik nanopartikel silika yang dilapisi nanopartikel emas. Sintesis dilakukan pada suhu 95 °C dengan variasi rasio mol APTES terhadap gugus silanol pada nanopartikel silika sebesar 1,0 dan 1,4  serta Au 0,1 dan 0,2 ml. Karakterisasi dilakukan menggunakan FTIR, SEM-EDS, dan Spektrofotometer UV-Vis. Spektrum FTIR menunjukkan adanya ikatan antara APTES dengan silika pada daerah serapan sekitar 1500 cm-1 dan keberadaan nanopartikel emas ditunjukkan dari hasil SEM-EDS. Karakterisasi SEM  menunjukkan nanopartikel emas menempel pada permukaan silika. Respon magnetik sampel ditunjukkan dari hasil spektrofotometer UV-Vis dengan dua puncak yaitu resonansi dipol dan resonansi kuadrupol.Kata kunci: APTES, nanopartikel emas, nanopartikel silika, respon magnetik, sifat optik
