Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of adding the sluice gate and the optimal width of the sluice gate on the waterwheel performance. Tests have been carried out experimentally on a laboratory scale. In the test, this study used an open channel waterwheel with variations in the flow gap width gate width of 25mm, 35mm, and 40mm. Each variation of the flow gap width will be tested at a flow rate of 12 liters/second. Parameters such as mill power, turbine torque, and efficiency will be determined based on the measurement results of the rotational speed of the waterwheel wheel, water level, and braking load. The results showed that the width of the sluice gate flow gap affects the performance of the waterwheel. The highest performance was obtained at a flow gap of 25mm followed by a flow gap width of 35mm, and the lowest performance was obtained at a variation of the slit width of 40mm. The maximum performance of the waterwheel is obtained at variations in the width of the flow gap of 25mm at 50 rpm rotation conditions with a discharge of 12 liters/second where liters were generated 15.06 watts and the efficiency 29.82%.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in the angle and distance of sandblasting on paint coating quality and corrosion properties of low carbon steel. The success of a coating is highly dependent on surface roughness, so sandblasting is needed to clean and create a surface roughness profile with the aim that the paint can coat the surface perfectly. The test method used in this research is the pull off test method for testing the adhesive strength of paint and open circuit potential (OCP) for testing the corrosion potential. The sandblasting variations used are angles of 45⁰, 60⁰, 75⁰ and nozzle distances of 15 cm, 35 and 50 cm. The tests carried out were roughness, paint thickness, paint adhesive strength and corrosion potential. From the test results it can be concluded that the greater the angle and the closer the sandblasting nozzle distance, the greater the surface roughness. The greater surface roughness affects the paint layer to be thicker and has a high paint adhesion strength, resulting in a smaller corrosion potential. In this study, the highest test results were obtained at an angle of 75⁰ and a distance of 15 cm with a surface roughness value of 5.981 µm, a paint thickness of 115 µm, a paint adhesive strength of 7.28 MPa and an initial corrosion potential position of -0.101 V then a final position of -0.063 V.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the high temperature erosion rate of the NiCr coating on ASME SA 210 C steel using the combustion oxy fuel thermal spray method. In Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) boiler, there is circulation of fly ash, silica sand and air in a high temperature environment which causes erosion. High temperature erosion can be minimized by using Ni-Cr alloy coating sing the combustion oxy fuel thermal spray method. NiCr alloy is proved a able to provider a metal alloy layer composition that can withstand temperatures of 600°C with a fly ash impact speed of 200m/s. The metal alloy compositions that have been studied are NiCr, NiCrCo, NiCrWc, NiCrWcCo, and NiCrCoMo. The results of this study indicates that metal alloys are generally atteche to the substrate and withstand at a high temperatures (600°C). The highest hardness provide by NiCrWcCo alloy which is 177.46 HV. The lowest hardness is found in the composition of the NiCrCo alloy (161.71 HV). The lowest high temperature erosion rate was found in the NiCrWcCo alloy, which was -0.00481 gram/minute. This low erosion rate because the NiCrWcCo alloy produces a good weeting effect for metal alloys and has a high hardness value.

Abstract

The corrosive coastal environment will result in a high corrosion rate for any equipment installed there. This is due to the constant exposure to saltwater, high humidity levels, and strong winds. Therefore, it is crucial to use corrosion-resistant materials and regularly maintain the equipment to ensure its longevity in such an environment. One method to reduce the rate of corrosion is to pay close attention to the manufacturing parameters of these components, one of which is the face milling process. The aim of this study is investigating the effect of face milling process with different dept of cut using minimum quantity lubrication method with corn oil as a renewable vegetable cutting fluid. In this study AISI 316L stainless steel was face milled using HAAS VF-2 CNC machine. The depth of cut is varied between 0.2 mm, 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm, and 0.6 mm. The results demonstrated that the greater the depth of cut, the greater the surface roughness value that will be generated. It is resulting in increment in the corrosion rate value.
