Abstract

According to Bryman’s model, the research procedure involves several systematic stages: (1) identifying theoretical foundations, (2) formulating hypotheses, (3) designing the research, (4) operationalizing variables, (5) collecting data, (6) quantitatively analyzing data, (7) drawing conclusions, and (8) revising or confirming theoretical implications. These steps guided the development and validation of the discovery-learning model throughout the study. Data were collected through reading comprehension tests, expert validation, and student response questionnaires. The pre-test total score was 1,200, while the post-test total score increased to 2,270, indicating a significant improvement in students’ reading comprehension achievement. Statistical analysis confirmed that Discovery Learning significantly improved students’ ability to identify main ideas, infer meanings, and comprehend textual details. Validation by material experts indicated that the developed product was valid, effective, and practical for classroom implementation. The students’ responses also reflected positive perceptions of the learning process, particularly in terms of motivation and engagement.  Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the Discovery Learning-based reading comprehension model developed through the quantitative R Therefore, it is recommended that English teachers apply this model to enhance students’ analytical and interpretive reading skills. The researcher used a classroom action research (C.A.R) that was conducted in two cycles in which every cycle consisted of four meetings; this study used a qualitative approach. The location of this research was eighth-grade students of MTs SKB 3 Menteri Bingkat, with a total of 28 students

Abstract

The skill of writing a summary of the contents of an inspirational story text is very important for students to simplify and clarify something too long. The higher the student's writing ability, the higher the level of understanding of what has been conveyed/listened to. However, most students lack mastery of summarizing. This research aims to increase students' interest in learning by implementing learning skills in writing summaries of the contents of inspirational story texts using illustrated video media in class IX Plus students at Al-Azhar Medan Middle School, Medan Johor District, academic year 2023-2024. The subjects of this research were class IX Plus students at Al-Azhar Medan Middle School, Medan Johor District, for the 2023-2024 academic year, consisting of 40 students. The sample in this study is defined as individuals/students who constitute the entire population studied. The method used in this research is classroom action research (PTK). The indicators for this research are teachers who teach the material to write summary sentences and paragraphs on the contents of inspirational story texts. The data analysis technique used was classroom action research through Cycle I and Cycle II. Through the stages: class action plan, implementation, observation, and reflection according to the learning implementation plan (RPP) and syllabus applicable in the learning curriculum at Al-Azhar Middle School Medan. Based on data from 40 students, it was found that the percentage of classical student learning completeness in cycle I was 75% of the number of students who completed it, while 10 students did not complete it, and in cycle II it was 95% of the number of students who completed it, there were 38 students who did not complete it, while 2 did not complete it.

Abstract

This study aims to improve short story writing competence in fifth grade students of SD Negeri 101901 Lubuk Pakam through the use of personal experiences as the main source in developing ideas. This study uses a descriptive design that aims to collect quantitative data related to students' writing abilities in four main aspects: idea development, characterization of characters, use of plot and conflict, and language and grammar. A total of 35 students participated in short story writing activities based on personal experiences, the results of which were assessed using a rubric that had been prepared by researchers and Indonesian language teachers. The results showed that the average writing ability of students was 90, with the percentage of writing ability per aspect as follows: idea development (85%), character characterization (80%), use of plot and conflict (78%), and language and grammar (82%). These findings indicate that students find it easier to develop ideas and character traits when writing about personal experiences, although some students still have difficulty in organizing complex storylines and using good language. Based on these results, it is concluded that the use of personal experiences as writing materials can significantly improve students' writing skills, in line with the theory that personal experiences can motivate and increase student involvement in writing activities. This study also found that short story writing skills require continuous practice so that students can be more skilled in organizing ideas, building plots, and composing language well. The implication of this study is the importance of teacher guidance in honing students' writing skills, especially in determining ideas, building characters, and composing interesting stories.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the speaking skills of third grade students of SD Negeri 107982 Lubuk Pakam through the storytelling learning method. The method used is classroom action research (CAR) with two cycles, each consisting of four stages: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Before the first cycle, a pre-cycle survey was conducted which showed that only 23% of 30 students achieved the Minimum Completion Criteria (KKM) in speaking skills. In the first cycle, storytelling-based learning was carried out and resulted in an increase in students' speaking skills, with 53% of students achieving KKM. In the second cycle, a modification of learning was carried out with paired exercises, which succeeded in increasing the percentage of students achieving KKM to 83%. The storytelling method has been proven to be able to create an interactive and enjoyable learning atmosphere, as well as improve students' verbal and nonverbal aspects, such as intonation, expression, and eye contact. The results of the study indicate that the storytelling method can be an effective strategy in developing students' speaking skills in Indonesian subjects at the elementary school level.

Abstract

Guided by the research questions, this study is designed to achieve three main objectives. To design and develop a prototype of English vocabulary teaching materials based on Cooperative Learning principles for Grade VII students at SMP Langkat Binjai. To validate the developed materials through expert evaluation and pilot implementation. To assess the effectiveness of the materials in enhancing students’ vocabulary acquisition and active learning participation. This research employs a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the ADDIE model as its instructional design framework. R&D is appropriate for studies that aim to produce educational products—such as teaching materials-and systematically test their quality and effectiveness in real-world contexts. The ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) was selected due to its structured yet flexible nature and its wide acceptance in educational material development. The conclusions of this research can be categorized into five major areas corresponding to the ADDIE model: Development of Materials, Validation of Materials, Implementation of Materials, Effectiveness of Materials, Practicality and Pedagogical Implications

Abstract

This study examines the application of YouTube videos as teaching materials in learning to write summaries of the folk tale "Malin Kundang" for eighth-grade students of SMP IT Al Misbah Pematang Kuala. The study used a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method, involving 20 students as research subjects. Data were collected through learning artifacts in the form of story summaries written by students, observations of the learning process, and learning documentation. Analysis was carried out multidimensionally covering narrative structure, linguistic quality, paraphrase originality, and textual coherence. This effectiveness is explained through the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning (Mayer, 2021), which states that dual-channel processing (visual and auditory) produces a richer, integrated mental representation than single-channel processing. YouTube videos facilitate the modality transformation from oral-visual input to textual output, resulting in more authentic paraphrasing than written text-based learning, which tends to encourage copy-pasting. Individual variations in summary length (120-200 words), opening type (5 types), and storytelling focus (3 perspectives) reflect meaningful construction and learner agency, not weakness. This research reconceptualizes YouTube videos from an entertainment platform to a cognitive tool that facilitates deep learning and skill development. Further research with a quasi-experimental design, a larger sample size, a longitudinal approach, and a think-aloud protocol is recommended for stronger validation. This research contributes to the empirical validation of CTML in the context of EFL writing, the extension of paraphrasing and modality transformation theories, and the development of a multidimensional qualitative descriptive analysis framework for assessing summary quality. The findings confirm that YouTube videos, when integrated with a structured learning design, can be an integral component of Indonesian language learning that enhances digital native student engagement, facilitates higher-order thinking, and minimizes plagiarism through authentic paraphrasing
