Abstract

Copious studies on online assessment have been documented. However, little is known about English teachers oft-cited barriers in online assessment and their strategies to overcome the barriers. The present study aims to examine the oft-cited barriers by English teachers in online assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic and describe how they overcome the barriers. The study applied quantitative and qualitative methods in a sequential explanatory research design. Through a random sampling technique, it involved 96 senior and 28 vocational high school English teachers in Kampar, Riau, Indonesia. The quantitative data were gathered through closed-ended questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics in SPSS 25, while the qualitative data were gathered using semi-structured interviews and analyzed using thematic analysis. The results revealed that English teachers face technological barriers as the main barriers in online assessment rather than pedagogical, institutional, and affective barriers. English teachers overcome the barriers by changing the form of assignments, especially in English assignments, to written form rather than other forms. The findings suggest important practical implications in the English classes for teachers and institutions to facilitate the teachers' and schools' needs in online assessment to enhance accessibility and quality during the pandemic.

Abstract

The Google Scholar database has become an indispensable resource for article search in the digital age. The purpose of this study was to examine articles from the Google Scholar database and demonstrate how to use VOSviewer to analyze bibliometric data. Users are given an initial explanation of step-by-step analysis using VOSviewer to make it easier to map research trends. The study offers analytical findings from the growing digital literacy research and explains how simple it is to evaluate data using mapping tools. As a starting point for future research, bibliometric analysis is used in this research to uncover trends and patterns in the development of science. For example, concrete publications on digital literacy involve the collection of 204 published documents from 2018 to 2022. The results of mapping with VOSviewer can be used to offer recommendations in the results of data analysis to identify research trends. Some keywords that become opportunities for future research trends related to digital literacy are models, PBL, children's digital literacy, hoaxes.

Abstract

Background. The digital era makes education require more sophisticated literacy skills to keep up with the era. The ability to search, access, manage, present, and communicate with digital objects is an ability in digital literacy. Books as reading materials can now be accessed through digital, called E-books. The existence of E-books will bring new changes in the way students learn. The presence of E-books will provide convenience, affordability, and availability. Purpose This study aims to measure the effectiveness of using ebooks in improving students' digital literacy. It also analyzes the factors that influence the effectiveness of using E-books. The presence of E-books as literacy media will be analyzed how influential it is on students' ability to search, access, manage, present and communicate using digital information. Method. The method used in this research is quantitative. The data obtained is the number of responses. The data obtained was taken from the distribution of questionnaires containing questions and statements regarding the effectiveness of E-books in improving students' digital literacy. The statements presented in the questionnaire are a form of google formula called google from. The data will be processed through SPSS which was previously inputted into excel. Results. The results of this study state that the use of E-books as digital reading materials will provide facilities for access, distribution, and consumption of reading materials. The practicality offered will make it easier for educators and students to access it. E-books provide interactive features to enhance the reading experience. In addition, E-books will provide long-distance support in online learning. But of course every advantage has disadvantages or limitations in the use of digital technology. Conclusion This research can be concluded that E-books as reading materials used by teachers and students must be monitored. Analyzing the use of E-books will be useful for identifying inhibiting factors or supporting factors in the world of education. It is also necessary to analyze the effectiveness of using E-books to improve the quality of student literacy. Teachers, parents and formal institutions including students themselves will play an active role in the successful use of E-books in improving digital literacy.
