Abstract

Developing tourism is not only related to facilities and infrastructure but also needs to be supported by competent Human Resources (HR), one of whom can communicate using English. The English skills possessed by some tour operators in Penglipuran Village are classified as being able to communicate. However, they still need to be improved based on the results of the pre-test given. There are still difficulties encountered both in terms of listening to English speech, understanding English reading, the ability to construct English sentences, and expressing ideas in spoken English. Thus, English language training is still needed to improve their quality. This community service activity is carried out through training through theoretical and practical presentations. The method used is Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). The activity lasts for ten meetings, with the stages of activities covering warmer core activities (speaking, writing, reading, and listening), and the last is evaluation. Overall the activity was done well, as seen from the evaluation results distributed to the training participants. All of them received a good response from the training participants. The participants' English skills also increased based on the results of the tests given to the participants.

Abstract

The phenomenon of fatherlessness in Indonesia is an issue that cannot be ignored, considering the importance of the role of fathers in character formation, emotional well-being, and family economic stability. The figure of the father not only functions as a breadwinner, but also as an educator, role model, and the main supporter in the development of children. Active father involvement contributes to the child's psychological balance, preventing negative impacts such as low self-confidence, difficulties in building social relationships, and an increased risk of mental problems. In addition, the role of men in society also contributes to community strengthening and inclusive social development. This service activity aims to increase public awareness of the importance of the presence and involvement of fathers and men in family and social life. One form of implementation of this program is the organization of a letter writing competition for fathers as a medium of reflection and appreciation. This activity is expected to be able to build collective awareness about the importance of the father figure, strengthen emotional relationships in the family, and encourage the community to appreciate the role of men in various aspects of life. Thus, this activity contributes to building a culture of appreciation for the role of fathers and encourages the active participation of men in forming a more harmonious family and community.

Abstract

Vocabulary mastery is a fundamental component of English language proficiency and an essential foundation for young learners. However, in Indonesian EYL classrooms, vocabulary instruction often remains teacher-centered and monotonous, leading to limited engagement and low achievement. This study investigated how Wordwall, a gamified digital platform, could be integrated within a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design to support vocabulary learning. Conducted with 22 fifth-grade students in a primary school, the research followed two CAR cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. Data were collected through vocabulary tests, classroom observations, and interviews. The findings indicated a steady improvement across cycles. The class mean score increased from 52.72 in the pre-cycle to 71.13 in Cycle I and reached 82.5 in Cycle II. By the end of Cycle II, all students met the Minimum Mastery Criteria (KKM), compared to only six students at baseline. Qualitative observations revealed that while initial use of Wordwall generated interest, uneven participation and low confidence persisted. Adjustments in Cycle II—particularly the incorporation of repetition and structured pair discussions—helped address these issues, resulting in more balanced participation and greater learner confidence. The study concludes that Wordwall can support vocabulary mastery when combined with pedagogical strategies such as recycling input and collaborative learning. These results provide practical guidance for EYL teachers in Indonesia, highlighting how gamified tools can be effectively adapted to classroom realities through iterative, reflective practice.

Abstract

The communication strategies used by students in the exchange program between UHN I Gusti Bagus Sugriwa Denpasar and Mahamakut Buddhist University were explored. A questionnaire based on Dörnyei’s Taxonomy was used to identify different strategies, including interactional, compensatory, achievement, and avoidance strategies. The findings show that students actively participated in communication despite challenges such as language skills and cultural differences. Interactional strategies, like asking for clarification and confirming understanding, were commonly used. Compensatory strategies, such as language switching and gestures, also helped convey messages more effectively. The results emphasize the importance of recognizing these strategies to support language learning and intercultural communication. Keywords: communication strategies, student exchange, Indonesian students, Thai students, intercultural communication, Dörnyei’s Taxonomy.
