Abstract

Textile industry wastewater often contains persistent pollutants like neutral red dye, which are challenging to break down and harmful to ecosystems. This study introduces oxygen-doped graphitic carbon nitride (O-g-C3N4) as a photocatalyst to degrade neutral red dye under visible light. Synthesized using a single-step calcination of urea, dicyandiamide, and oxalic acid, O- g-C3N4 was tested for its efficiency in neutral red removal through adsorption and photocatalytic degradation, both in light and dark conditions. Results showed that O- g-C3N4 quickly adsorbed the dye, reaching equilibrium in 30 minutes and achieving a maximum adsorption capacity of 1.86 mg g-1, surpassing bulk g-C3N4. Kinetic analysis indicated that adsorption followed a pseudo-second-order model, suggesting chemisorption as the primary mechanism. Under visible light, O- g-C3N4’s photocatalytic degradation reached 86% neutral red removal, compared to 51% with bulk g-C3N4, largely due to improved light absorption and reduced electron-hole recombination. Degradation of neutral red followed pseudo-first-order kinetics, with O- g-C3N4’s reaction rate three times greater than bulk g-C3N4. The Sips isotherm best fit the adsorption data, confirming heterogeneous active sites and multilayer adsorption. These findings highlight O- g-C3N4’s potential for environmental remediation.

Abstract

Product packaging not only serves as a protector but also as a strategic tool to build a strong identity and brand image. In Gisik Cemandi Village, MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) play a vital role in the local economy; however, many MSME owners face challenges in creating a strong product identity. One way to overcome this challenge is by redesigning product packaging as a branding tool. This community service activity aims to analyze how packaging can be utilized to enhance the competitiveness and brand awareness of MSMEs in Gisik Cemandi Village. The methods used include surveys, interviews, packaging redesign, and distributing questionnaires to consumers to gather insights into their expectations regarding packaging design. The results of the study show that many MSME owners in the village have not fully utilized the potential of packaging design. The existing packaging tends to be monotonous and unappealing, while innovative packaging designs can enhance product quality perception and consumer purchase decisions. After conducting counseling and redesigning the packaging, MSME owners gained knowledge about the importance of packaging design in creating a strong product identity and attracting consumers. The new packaging is more informative, appealing, and capable of building a positive brand image. Thus, good packaging design can be an effective branding tool in increasing brand awareness and product competitiveness in a competitive market. It is expected that by applying this strategy, MSMEs in Gisik Cemandi Village will be able to expand their market share and increase their product sales.

Abstract

Air pollution has increasingly become a serious global issue, driven by the rise of industrial activities, transportation, and fossil fuel use. Pollutants such as fine particles, sulfur dioxide (SO₂), nitrogen oxides (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) pose threats to human health and environmental sustainability. Tlasih Village in Sidoarjo, East Java, known as a center for the cracker industry, has the potential to contribute to air pollution due to the use of non-environmentally friendly fuels in production processes. This study aims to raise awareness among the residents of Tlasih about the impacts of air pollution through direct socialization activities conducted with cracker producers on July 26, 2024. The method involved presenting material on the effects of air pollution on health and the environment and introducing alternative, cleaner fuels. Survey results indicated that the majority of respondents already had a basic awareness of air pollution, with 17.5% demonstrating in-depth understanding and 65% showing moderate awareness of its impacts. However, only a small number actively participated in socialization activities or pollution reduction efforts. Further socialization is necessary to shift mindsets and enhance active community involvement. This study suggests that environmental education campaigns should be intensified, particularly those focusing on practical solutions to reduce pollution, to foster a healthier environment in Tlasih Village and its surroundings.
