Abstract

Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms experienced by pregnant women, especially in the first trimester, and can interfere with the quality of life and well-being of the mother. Although this condition is often considered normal, excessive nausea and vomiting can lead to dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and weight loss, which is a risk to the health of the mother and fetus. The combination of lemon aromatherapy and acupressure has long been known as a non-invasive method that can help reduce nausea and vomiting. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of the combination of lemon aromatherapy and acupressure on the reduction of nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester at the Suryati Midwifery Independent Practice, Jayapura Regency. The results showed that before the intervention was given, the majority of respondents in the intervention and control groups experienced nausea and vomiting in the moderate and severe categories. After the intervention for 7 days with a frequency of 3 times a day, the intervention group experienced a significant decrease in the rate of nausea and vomiting, switching to the moderate and mild categories. In contrast, the control group that did not receive the intervention showed no significant change, with the majority remaining in the category of moderate and severe nausea and vomiting. Statistical analysis showed that there was a significant difference in the intervention group with a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), while there was no significant difference in the control group (p-value 0.564). These findings confirm the effectiveness of the combination of lemon aromatherapy and acupressure as a safe and effective alternative in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester.

Abstract

Children with special needs experience disruptions in their physical, mental, and cognitive development and socialization, causing their daily activities to differ from other children. One classification of children with special needs was Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), in which the status and severity of ASD symptoms are related to cognitive abilities. This study aimed to determine the relationship between autism status in children with special needs and their cognitive abilities. This study employs a quantitative design with a cross-sectional method and involves 55 children with special needs in Malang City, East Java Province, Indonesia. The study was conducted on 55 children with special needs in Malang City in East Java Province, Indonesia. The Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ-10) questionnaire was used to measure autism status, and cognitive abilities were measured using the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC). This study showed that as many as 85.5% of children with special needs have characteristics that lead to autism. Most children lived with siblings (72.8%), and 21.8% had siblings with the same condition. The Spearman-Rho analysis indicated a significant relationship between autism status and cognitive abilities (coefficient: 0.425; p-value=0.001). Our study found that children with special needs tend to have ASD status, so children with ASD need to get cognitive therapy according to their abilities. Therefore, parents and special needs schools must collaborate to enhance the cognitive abilities, quality of life, and overall health of special needs students through therapy focused on child's abilities to help them achieve independence and productivity.

Abstract

Kata kunci: lansia; skrining kesehatan; terapi aktivitas kelompok; hipertensi; diabetes mellitus AbstractThe increase in the number of elderly in Indonesia presents challenges in terms of physical and psychosocial health. According to the 2022 Indonesian Health Profile, the prevalence of hypertension in the population aged 45–54 years reached 33.5% and increased to 63.2% in the age group of 55–64 years. Globally, the World Health Organization (WHO) reports that in 2023, around 1.28 billion people worldwide will have hypertension in the age range of 30–79 years, with the majority of cases occurring in developing countries, including Indonesia. A similar condition can be seen at the Sentani Nursing Home, where most of the elderly have not received regular health checkups and are minimally involved in structured physical and social activities. This community service aims to apply a holistic approach through health screening and group activity therapy to improve the physical health status and psychosocial well-being of the elderly. The activity method includes three main stages: (1) health screening (blood pressure, blood sugar, and weight checks); (2) health education through interactive counseling; and (3) group activity therapy in the form of light gymnastics, cognitive games, and social activities with simple musical instruments. The activity was held on October 16, 2024, and involved 30 elderly as participants. Evaluation is carried out through direct observation of participants' behavior and expressions and the level of participation in activities. The screening results showed a tendency to hypertension and hyperglycemia in most participants, while observations showed increased motivation and social interaction after the activity. This activity shows that integrating early detection and stimulation of social activities can improve the quality of life of the elderly. A sustainable and synergistic program is needed with nursing home managers to expand the impact of activities. Keywords: elderly; health screening; group activity therapy; hypertension; diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

The process of childbirth causes several psychological changes in the mother, feelings of happiness, sadness and fear. These changes in feelings can occur in the first week after giving birth. Postpartum psychological changes called postpartum blues are more at risk of occurring in primitive mothers, where there is a change in the role of a mother. Husband's support greatly affects how psychological changes can cause postpartum blues problems especially in primitive mothers. The purpose of this literature review study was made to identify the husband's support for the incidence of baby blues in primipara mothers. The method used in this study is a socpong review and was systematically studied based on PRISMA flow cahart using Proquest, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases with the keywords "husband support" and "primipara". With the inclusion criterion, research articles in 2017-2022 were found 871 articles using English, full text and in the form of articles. After scanning, 16 articles were obtained that matched the criteria and then a review was carried out. The results of the scoping review study showed that the husband's support for primipara mothers showed that mothers who received support from their husbands were less at risk of experiencing postpartum blue.
