Abstract

Abstract: Misogynist views emerged from gender-insensitive reading of hadiths that talk about women, are often used as legitimacy in perpetuating injustice and even violence against women in the domestic sphere. The hadith misinterpreted as a justification for a husband's authority over his wife is the hadith regarding women's service to their husbands. In this regard, this article attempts to dig up in-depth information regarding the hadith, by taking a hermeneutic approach in re-understanding the hadith. This research aims to create a new meaning that is not misogynistic, by referring to the feminist hermeneutic method offered by Amina Wadud. This research uses library methods to explore relevant information through books and journals. The results of this research show that although the concept of submissive marriage was the social context in which this hadith was born, practically, the Prophet never showed an authoritative attitude towards his wife. Keywords: Misogynist hadith, women's service, feminist hermeneutics, Amina Wadud, gender studies.

Abstract

This study analyzes the transformation of Ibn Arabi's concept of wahdat al-wujud (the unity of being) within the context of contemporary Indonesian Sufism, particularly in response to the challenges of religious pluralism. Employing a qualitative approach and case study method, the research explores how the metaphysical doctrine developed by Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi (1165-1240 CE) has been adapted by modern Indonesian Sufi figures to address the complexities of religious life in the modern era. Data were collected through textual analysis, in-depth interviews with leaders of Sufi orders, and observation of spiritual practices in various pesantren and zawiyah. The findings reveal that wahdat al-wujud has undergone significant reinterpretation, with a particular emphasis on values of tolerance, inclusivity, and interreligious coexistence, while still upholding core Islamic theological principles. This transformation reflects Sufism's capacity to respond to local socio-cultural changes while preserving its spiritual depth. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of the flexibility of classical Sufi teachings in modern contexts and offers a fresh perspective on the role of Sufism in fostering religious harmony and tolerance within Indonesia's pluralistic society.

Abstract

Abstract

This article explores the evolution of Ibn Taymiyyah’s theological thought and its influence on the rise of Salafi ideology in Indonesia. Ibn Taymiyyah is recognized as a prominent theologian who emphasized the purification of Islamic teachings by returning to the Qur’an and Sunnah. His concept of tawhid, Rububiyyah, Uluhiyyah, and Asma’ wa Sifat, became the fundamental basis for Salafi movements that reject rational interpretation and uphold the supremacy of revelation. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research and content analysis of Ibn Taymiyyah’s works as well as literature on Salafi ideology. The findings reveal that Salafi ideology has developed into several categories: Salafi Ilmi, which focuses on education and scholarly transmission; Salafi Manhaj, which emphasizes methodological approaches in da’wah; Salafi Jihadi, which advocates armed struggle; and Salafi Takfiri, which is characterized by extreme excommunication of others. The Islamic University of Imam Muhammad ibn Saud serves as a strategic institution in disseminating these ideas through education, religious outreach (da'wah), and its alumni network across various countries, including Indonesia. Thus, the connection between Ibn Taymiyyah, Salafism, and Imam Muhammad ibn Saud University reflects a strong ideological continuity in shaping contemporary religious practices focused on the purification of creed and worship.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the contribution of religious leaders in implementing da'wah (Islamic outreach) oriented toward flood mitigation in Rupit District, North Musi Rawas Regency. The frequent flooding in this area not only causes physical and economic losses but also impacts the social and spiritual well-being of the community. In this context, religious leaders play a crucial role as agents of change, capable of raising awareness, instilling religious values, and guiding the community to be alert and wise in facing the threat of disaster. The study used a qualitative approach, collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation with religious leaders and local residents. The research findings revealed that da'wah conducted by religious leaders emphasized three main aspects: (1) raising awareness of environmental sustainability as part of religious teachings, (2) internalizing the values of patience, solidarity, and social awareness in the face of disasters, and (3) encouraging community preparedness through preventive measures and active involvement in mitigation efforts. Thus, the da'wah of religious leaders is not only spiritual in nature but also serves as an effective social instrument in strengthening community resilience in the face of flooding in Rupit District.

Abstract

The cold lava disaster in Nagari Bukik Batabuah caused physical damage, loss of property and family members, as well as profound social and psychological impacts. In this crisis, the community showed an increase in religiosity as a way of searching for meaning and a source of strength to face adversity. This study aims to examine the factors that influence the religiosity of the community and the forms of religiosity that developed after the disaster. The study uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show that there are four main factors that influence the religiosity of the community, namely education, experience, life, and intellect. This increase in religiosity is reflected in the emergence of social solidarity and a stronger sense of togetherness through disaster command posts, trauma healing, and religious activities that strengthen social and spiritual bonds. Thus, the disaster, which initially caused suffering, has become a turning point for the community to build a more religious, optimistic, and united life.

Abstract

The development of Islamic philosophy is inextricably linked to the process of translation and translation (Islamization and adaptation) of Greek philosophical works into Arabic during the Abbasid Dynasty. This movement was not merely a translation, but a creative effort by Muslims to integrate Greek rationality with Islamic teachings. Through institutions such as the Bayt al-Hikmah in Baghdad, translators like Hunayn ibn Ishaq and thinkers like al-Kindi, al-Farabi, Ibn Sina, and Ibn Rushd played a crucial role in developing a new synthesis between revelation and reason. The translation of Greek works resulted in an epistemological transformation that enabled the birth of an original Islamic philosophical system, not merely an imitation but also a reinterpretation of Greek concepts of metaphysics, ethics, and logic. This process demonstrates that Islamic philosophy emerged not from passive imitation of Hellenism, but rather as the result of an intellectual dialogue between Greek tradition and Islamic monotheistic values. Thus, the translation of Greek works laid the foundation for the formation of a rational, theological, and universal mode of philosophical thought in Islamic civilization

Abstract

The handling of the deceased is one of the obligatory acts of worship classified as a fardhu kifayah. Not all Muslims possess the skills to wash, shroud, and perform the funeral prayer for the deceased; typically, these duties are entrusted to those who are experts and accustomed to performing them. However, it is also important for every Muslim to know and understand these religious laws, at least for the purpose of handling the funeral of close relatives. To provide insight to those who have not yet mastered this knowledge, a training session was conducted involving the Majelis Taklim in Kanagarian Koto Tangah, Tilatang Kamang Subdistrict, Agam Regency. This was done in anticipation of a shortage of funeral organizers in the area. Several studies indicate that community service programs based on Majelis Taklim, focusing on funeral arrangements, remain limited. This initiative aims to enrich existing efforts while addressing a different subject area. The methodology employs a Participatory Action Research approach, utilizing lectures and demonstrations. In this community service project, two major patterns were identified: the importance of strengthening literacy and the need for demonstrations aimed at fostering habitual practices in a religious activity that is often performed on an ad hoc basis. The training on funeral arrangements for the Majelis Taklim in Koto Tangah Village has resulted in a task force that is on standby at all times to provide services to families experiencing bereavement
