Abstract

The ability to make precise adjustments to the human genome has been a goal of healing in which gene also introduces as the fundamental unit of heredity, in biomolecular technology in genetic diseases have opened new knowledge such as gene therapy. Gene therapy is a technique to repair DNA where its usage is to treat the malignancy and inherited genetic diseases. Gene therapy is a choice to the genetic cloth that goals to remedy a sickness this is hard to deal with or perhaps has no treatment. Currently, gene remedy is done in approaches to patients, specifically embryonic cells and somatic cells, every in vivo and ex vivo. Moral considerations with modification of the difficulty's cells and oversight of regulation and reagents want to be taken into consideration within the gene therapy project. Applications for using gene remedies have begun to be widely used, which include in case of maximum cancers, coronary heart disorder, infectious sicknesses, and others. Gene therapy has spread to a wide range of applications then go beyond the modification of genetic disorders. Advances in genetic modification of cancer cells and immunity and the use of viruses and bacteria to control cancer cells have resulted in many clinical trials and product developments for cancer treatment. The miracles and blessings of gene therapy are might believe, but even though they are being studied and developed now and, in the future, so that the desire for gene therapy may be even better future. Keywords: gene therapy, genetic recombination, gene therapy application

Abstract

Background: In dealing with infertility problems, a deep understanding of the specific causes becomes very important for proper treatment. One of the diagnostic methods often used to assess infertility conditions is hysterosalpingography (HSG). The superiority of HSG lies in its ability to provide clear visual information about the structural condition of the uterus and fallopian tubes, which are key factors in fertilization. Methods: This qualitative descriptive research uses a case study approach conducted at Sriwijaya Siloam Hospital in Palembang to compare the results of HSG examination in primary infertility clinics. Results: In this study, the results of HSG examinations in two patients with clinical primary infertility showed that there was a difference in the picture. The results of the HSG examination in first patient showed both non-patent tubes, where distal occlusion of the right fallopian tube and left peritubal adhesion were found, while in second patient it showed both patent tubes with a positive spill sign. Conclusions: Differences in the results of HSG examinations in primary infertility clinics show the conclusion that even though HSG shows a patent fallopian tube, the couple may still experience primary infertility. This shows that the cause of infertility can come from other factors and requires further evaluation.

Abstract

The infant mortality rate (IMR) serves as a crucial indicator in assessing public health. Congenital abnormalities are one of the leading causes of infant mortality in Indonesia. Neonatal screening aims to detect congenital abnormalities early to improve infants’ quality of life. This community service activity aimed to enhance the knowledge of the residents of Betung Barat Village, Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir, regarding the importance of neonatal screening. The event took place on February 20, 2025, using lectures and discussion methods, attended by 30 participants. Evaluation through pre-test and post-test questionnaires showed a significant increase in knowledge, with the average score rising from 55.3 to 78.7 (p = 0.005). These results indicate that education is effective in improving community understanding of neonatal screening. It is recommended to conduct regular educational programs, involve families in supporting neonatal screening, and enhance access to information through local media and village health volunteers to improve infant health from an early stage.

Abstract

Primary dysmenorrhea is the most frequent gynecological issue in women of reproductive age. Various therapeutic approaches have been used to treat dysmenorrhea, such as psychotherapy, administration of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, oral contraceptive pills, and others. However, these drugs often have undesirable side effects. Therefore, other alternatives, such as herbal medicine, diet, supplements, vitamins, and minerals, are important concerns. Vitamin D, also known as calciferol, is believed to regulate cell growth and apoptosis and modulate the immune system and other functions. The active type of vitamin D has the potential to decrease prostaglandin production within the endometrium and restrict its biological impact by influencing prostaglandin receptors. Moreover, it can prompt anti-inflammatory responses through diverse pathways. Vitamin D is naturally synthesized in the skin when exposed to sunlight's ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation, but it can also be acquired from dietary sources and supplements. This community service aims to educate young women about dysmenorrhea by increasing participation in counseling. The activity method used was counseling aimed at young female students at STIKES Abdurahman in Palembang, with a total of 120 participants, and this counseling activity was carried out for 150 minutes. From the results of this community service, the students understand the importance of maintaining reproductive health. They can overcome primary dysmenorrhea by adjusting a diet that contains vitamin D.

Abstract

The potential for macroalgae diversity along the coast of Cibuaya Beach, Pangumbahan Village, Ujung Genteng, Sukabumi Regency, West Java, is illustrated in this study. Macroalgae, recognized as integral components of marine ecosystems, have garnered attention due to their substantial economic value and ecological benefits. This study aims to conduct an inventory and identification of macroalgae in this specific locale. The quadratic transect method was employed to provide a comprehensive overview of macroalgae types in the area. The identification results revealed the presence of 25 macroalgae types from 19 tribes and 3 divisions. The diversity assessment yielded a moderate value (2.4) at station 1, while station 2 exhibited a lower diversity level with a value of 1.06, indicating higher species diversity at station 1. Analysis of dominance, as measured by the dominance index, indicated a low level (0.13) at station 1 and a medium level (0.59) at station 2, with Boergesenia forbesii emerging as the dominant type at both stations. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of macroalgae diversity potential along the Cibuaya Coast, providing crucial insights to support marine conservation efforts in the region and serving as a cornerstone for further ecological investigations. Furthermore, considering the proven medicinal potential of macroalgae in prior studies, these findings underscore the significance of this research in the realm of potential drug development and nature-based therapies.
