Abstract

This research aimed to verify The Effectiveness of Picture and Picture Model in improving the students’ writing skills that focused on Content and Organization. The writer applied Pre-Experimental Method with One Group Pretest Post-test Design, and collected the data by giving Pre-test, treatment and Post-test. The sample of the research was Class VIII A of SMPN 2 Pangkajene which consisted of 23 students. The sample was taken by using Purposive Sampling Technique. The research findings showed that the 8th students of SMPN 2 Pangkajene had poor score in Pre-test. After treatment, their writing skills was significantly increase. The result of the research were the mean score of content obtained by the students through Pre-test was 55 and Post-test was 75 with the t-test value Content is greater than t-table (8.196> 2, 07387). Mean score of Organization Pre-test 51 and Post-test 74 with the t-test value organization is greater than t-table (10,106> 2, 07387). The Hypothesis Testing also was done by using SPSS 23 and showed that Sig (2-tailed) lower than level of significance (, 000 < 0.05). It means that there is significance difference between before and after giving the treatment. It indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It was concluded that the use of Picture and Picture Model in writing activity could improve the students writing skills in Recount Text exactly in making good Content and Organization.

Abstract

Pencemaran  udara merupakan salah satu akibat dari aktivitas perubahan manusia sehingga udara seringkali menurun kualitasnya. Perubahan kualitas ini dapat berupa perubahan sifat-sifat fisis maupun sifat-sifat kimiawi. Keanekaragaman hayati di Indonesia dapat menjadi solusi dari permasalahan pencemaran udara yang  semakin memperihatinkan. Terdapat banyak jenis tumbuhan yang  berpotensi dalam menyerap polusi udara diantaranya tanaman lidah mertua (Sanseviera). Sansevieria mampu menyerap 107 jenis polutan di daerah padat lalu lintas dan ruangan yang penuh asap rokok,Tanaman sansevieria mampu mengurangi pencemaran udara baik di luar maupun di dalam ruangan terutama pencemaran yang disebabkan oleh CO  dari asap rokok dan menurut penelitian NASA bekerja sama dengan ALCA telah menemukan bukti bahwa tanaman ini secara alami mampu menyerap bahan beracun, seperti karbondioksida, benzene, formaldehyde, trichloroethylene, Sehingga dapat mengurangi polusi dari bahan beracun tersebut. (Lestari, 2013). Adapun tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kemampuan dan perbandingan yang lebih baik dalam menyerap polusi udara antara yang menggunakan sanseviera yang hidup dengan sanseviera yang kering.  Penelitian ini dilakukan sebanyak 3 tahap. Tahap pertama persiapan sanseviera yakni sanseviera dipotong-potong kemudian di keringkan dan penentuan jenis sanseviera. Tahap kedua adalah proses pemasukan dalam toples yaitu sanseviera kering dikontakkan dengan asap rokok dan bauh tidak sedap dengan dosis 10, 20 dan 30. Tahap ketiga merupakan tahap melihat hasil penelitian dengan dengan dosis 10, 20 dan 30  setelah kontak dengan asap rokok dan bauh tidak sedap. Adapun Variabel proses  dalam toples sanseviera  meliputi dosis dan waktu menyerap sanseviera. Dari hasil percobaan diperoleh perbandingan dan penyerapan sanseviera adalah 30 gr sedangkan waktu terbaik selama proses  penyerapan adalah 24 jam selama 1 minggu.  Kata kunci: Tanaman Lidah Mertua, Absorben , Parfum.

Abstract

The existing technologies have profoundly influenced technology integration in teaching activities. However, integrating technology into English Language teaching is not entirely smooth since the teachers are not skilled in combining technology with content and pedagogy knowledge simultaneously in the learning process. Therefore, this study attempted to investigate the level of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) mastery from junior high school EFL teachers in Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency based on teachers' gender and school status. The quantitative study with a survey method addressed the research's aim. The research conducted in Pangkajene and Kepulauan Regency involved 104 junior high school EFL teachers as research respondents. The data of this study were collected from in-service EFL teachers in public and private junior high schools by distributing the questionnaire offline and online. Version 26 of SPSS was employed to analyze the data. The analysis of the data encompassed inferential and descriptive statistics. The present study results elucidated that EFL teachers' TPACK mastery is in the very good category, with details of TK, TCK, PCK, and TPK in the very good category; CK and TPACK in the good category. Next, EFL teachers' TPACK mastery based on gender showed no significant difference in TPACK mastery between male and female teachers. Then, EFL teachers’ TPACK mastery based on school status showed no significant difference in TPACK mastery between teachers in public schools and private schools. These results imply that EFL teachers' TPACK knowledge and mastery are related to the proper implementation of ICT in classroom instruction.

Abstract

Advancements in technology have significantly impacted the integration of technology into educational practices. However, incorporating technology into teaching remains challenging, largely due to the insufficient training received by some educators in this area. Effective technology integration, particularly in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings, necessitates the use of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework. This study aimed to examine the TPACK competencies of certified high school English teachers. A case study method was employed as it was deemed the most suitable approach for this research. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five certified high school English teachers. The findings revealed that the participants considered themselves proficient in nearly all sub-dimensions of TPACK. The study concluded that certified high school English teachers possess a strong understanding of TPACK and the ability to apply it effectively. This study highlights the importance of raising awareness among English teachers regarding the TPACK framework. Ultimately, it contributes to the development of English teachers' competencies through TPACK, thereby enhancing the quality of the teaching and learning process

Abstract

The use of digital learning tools has become increasingly influential in language education, particularly in facilitating vocabulary acquisition. However, in contexts such as Papua, Indonesia is characterized by limited resources and significant cultural diversity, the integration of these tools presents distinct challenges and opportunities. This study investigated the role of digital tools in enhancing vocabulary acquisition among English Education students in Papua, examined the challenges encountered by educators and learners, and proposes strategies for adapting these tools to better reflect the region's unique cultural and linguistic landscape. Adopting a qualitative research approach, the study gathered data through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis involving participants from both teachers and students of Papua. Thematic analysis was employed to extract key themes and patterns from the data. The findings indicated that digital tools, such as Kahoot, Quizziz, Quizlet and Duolingo, support vocabulary development by offering gamified, interactive, and self-directed learning opportunities. Nonetheless, their impact is constrained by infrastructural deficiencies, disparities in access to technology, and limited digital literacy among educators and students. Furthermore, the absence of culturally relevant content diminished engagement and reduced the tools’ effectiveness within the local context. The study concluded that while digital tools hold significant potential to enhance English Education, their successful implementation necessitates addressing infrastructural challenges, enhancing educator training, and developing culturally adapted resources. The research contributes to a deeper understanding of the complexities of digital learning in multilingual and under-resourced environments, offering actionable recommendations for improving language education in Papua.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using podcasts on improving students' listening skills in learning English. Using a quasi-experimental design, two classes were involved, namely the experimental class that received learning through podcasts and the control class that was taught using conventional methods. The research instrument in the form of a multiple-choice test was arranged in the form of a pre-test and post-test to measure students' listening comprehension. The results of the analysis showed that students in the experimental class experienced a more significant increase in listening skills compared to the control class. This finding strengthens the theory of the importance of understandable input and Mayer's theory which emphasizes the combination of audio and verbal stimuli in learning. Podcasts have been shown to provide authentic input that can be accessed again according to the students' learning pace, thereby increasing their motivation, independence, and involvement in the learning process. Thus, podcasts are worthy of being used as an effective alternative learning media to improve listening skills in the context of teaching English as a foreign language.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between students’ learning styles and vocabulary achievement among second-grade students at Public Junior High School of 6 Buton Tengah. Employing a correlational research design, data were collected through a learning style questionnaire (covering visual, auditory, and kinesthetic preferences) and a vocabulary achievement test. The sample consisted of 25 students from Class C. Data analysis was conducted using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation formula. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between each learning style and vocabulary achievement, with correlation coefficients of r = 0.838 for visual, r = 1.000 for auditory, and r = 0.923 for kinesthetic learning styles. These results indicate that students' preferred learning styles strongly influence their vocabulary mastery. The study highlights the importance for educators to recognize and integrate diverse learning styles in instructional strategies to enhance vocabulary acquisition. Future research is recommended to involve a larger and more diverse sample to generalize findings and explore causal relationships.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to increase awareness and knowledge of disaster mitigation among students of MTs Darul Ma’arif Numbay through socialization and disaster response simulation methods. The background of this activity is the high risk of disasters in Jayapura, while the students' preparedness level is still low based on initial observations. The method used is participatory, starting with interactive socialization about the basic concepts of disaster mitigation, types of disasters that potentially occur in Jayapura, and the importance of readiness and appropriate actions when facing disasters. The material is delivered using visual aids and discussions, followed by a disaster response simulation in the form of an earthquake evacuation scenario involving all students. Evaluation is conducted through observations and question-and-answer sessions before and after the activity. The results show a significant increase in students' understanding of mitigation steps and evacuation procedures, as well as the formation of a disaster-aware culture within the school environment. Students become more prepared and responsive in emergency situations and are able to correctly explain mitigation procedures. Additionally, active student involvement in the simulation also enhances enthusiasm and coordination among school members.

Abstract

Pelatihan debat berbahasa Inggris ini merupakan bagian dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat yang bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan berpikir kritis para praja. Kegiatan ini dirancang untuk menjawab kebutuhan peningkatan kompetensi bahasa Inggris, khususnya dalam menyampaikan argumen secara logis dan sistematis. Berdasarkan hasil analisis kebutuhan, peserta menunjukkan rendahnya kepercayaan diri dan keterbatasan dalam membangun argumen. Pelatihan dilaksanakan selama tiga pertemuan menggunakan metode workshop, simulasi debat, dan evaluasi. Materi pelatihan meliputi pengenalan format debat, latihan berbicara di depan umum, serta teknik pengembangan argumen berbasis data. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara, struktur berpikir, dan partisipasi aktif peserta. Pelatihan ini berhasil menumbuhkan kepercayaan diri, keterampilan berpikir kritis, serta kompetensi berbahasa Inggris secara terpadu. Kegiatan ini direkomendasikan untuk dilanjutkan melalui pembentukan klub debat dan pelatihan rutin berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve English vocabulary mastery using the Wordwall platform for Grade VIII students at SMPN 1 Bontomarannu. Conducted as classroom action research, it comprised two learning cycles involving 38 students as participants. Each cycle presented students with a Wordwall-displayed vocabulary list relevant to the studied topic. Students engaged with the Wordwall by pronouncing words and associating them with relevant images or sentences. Data collection methods included observation, field notes, documentation, and evaluation tests at the end of each cycle. Data were analyzed qualitatively using an interactive approach involving data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ English vocabulary mastery after implementing the Wordwall platform. This was evident from the vocabulary test results, which showed increased average scores from one cycle to the next. Observations also highlighted students’ active participation and enthusiasm in engaging with the Wordwall. Furthermore, the improvement in vocabulary mastery positively correlated with better learning outcomes. In conclusion, the use of the Wordwall platform effectively enhanced students’ English vocabulary mastery. It visually supported vocabulary development and helped students build stronger associations between words and their contexts. Teachers are encouraged to use the Wordwall platform in English teaching to improve students' vocabulary skills. Keywords: Wordwall Platform, English Vocabulary Mastery, Student Engagement
