Abstract

This study aims to identify and determine the transactional communication model using Shockley-Zalabak’s Organizational Communication Process Model used by the employees in delivering transactional utterances in workplace management. The research method was qualitative with a descriptive design. The subjects of this study are employees in the academic and broadcasting workplaces. Data on the transactional communication model were collected through transcripts of observations accompanied by audio recordings. The findings of the study reveal that communication within organizational settings is fundamentally transactional, interactive, and context-dependent. Across all extracts, communication emerges not as a simple transmission of information but as a co-created process shaped by hierarchical roles, organizational procedures, feedback loops, and interpersonal dynamics.

Abstract

The relationship between the United States and Iran has long been marked by tensions, particularly over nuclear issues, economic sanctions, and regional conflicts. Under the Trump administration, these tensions escalated further, especially after the U.S. withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in 2018. Trump's rhetoric on social media reflected his administration’s hardline stance toward Iran, making it a critical subject of linguistic analysis. The study aimed to investigate the semantic preference and semantic prosody of the collocation of Iran in Trump’s social media. This research focuses on a corpus-based study of Trump’s social media posts, compiled exclusively from those made during his presidency, from January 2017 to January 2021. The corpus dataset of @realdonaldtrump was taken from the trumptweetarchiever.com site, official Facebook and Instagram accounts from January 2017 to January 2021, which were collected in the form of a text compilation with the date containing all tweets and posts related to the country of Iran, then what are the lexicogrammatical elements that accompany it, as well as semantic categories involved in the collocation of these words. Considering the results of the MI (mutual information) score, the single keyword Iran in Trump's social media corpus tends to be associated with collocations related to the issue of economic sanctions, namely the nuclear deal. The results indicated that the keyword Iran carries a predominantly negative semantic preference, although not all keywords associated with Iran hold a positive meaning upon evaluating the concordance. The study concluded that Trump tends to portray the word Iran in a negative light.

Abstract

Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS).

Abstract

Public clarification statements from religious figures play a significant role in shaping public perception during moral controversies, yet little is known about how such speakers use linguistic strategies to address accusations. This study examines how Gus El, an Indonesian religious leader, constructed his clarification in response to viral allegations of misconduct. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study analyzes a verbatim transcript of his YouTube clarification. The analysis focuses on the use of speech acts, politeness strategies, and selected apology elements. The findings show that expressive and commissive acts dominate the statement, particularly through explicit apologies, acknowledgement of personal fault, and commitments to self-improvement. Representative acts serve to contextualize and soften the perceived severity of the event. Politeness strategies, including humility, mitigation, and appeals to shared religious values, help the speaker manage face threats and maintain rapport with the audience. Overall, the clarification reflects a strategic use of language to express remorse, reduce negative judgment, and preserve credibility as a religious authority.

Abstract

This experimental study investigates how gamified vocabulary learning through Quizizz supports English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students’ lexical development in Indonesia. Grounded in the principles of Self-Determination Theory, the research examines how game-based features, such as instant feedback, competition, and reward systems, enhance learners’ motivation and engagement during vocabulary acquisition. Twenty-eight eleventh-grade students from a public school in South Sulawesi participated in pre- and post-tests to measure learning gains after the Quizizz intervention. The results indicate notable improvements in students’ vocabulary mastery accompanied by increased autonomy and active participation during lessons. The findings suggest that integrating gamification elements can strengthen learners’ intrinsic motivation, contributing to more effective vocabulary learning in EFL classrooms. However, the study’s limited context, focusing on a single school and lacking comparison with other digital platforms, constrains the generalizability of the results. The study recommends broader implementation and future research across varied educational settings to further validate the potential of Quizizz and similar tools in enhancing EFL students’ lexical resources.
