<![CDATA[The aim of this research is to discover about the communication program held by SMAN 1 Tembilahan in order to improve students' speaking skills. The qualitative data was gathered and a Google form questionnaire was distributed to get the data dealong with the purpose above. This study sample consists of 3 English teachers from SMAN 1 Tembilahan who actively guide their students in English extracurricular. Based on the data result, there are two programs that can help students improve their speaking skill in this school. The one which facilitates students to have much exercises; English Club and another one facilitates students to compate each other at the end of every semester; English performance competition. Students in english club program learn and practice debate, speech, and 4 main skills (listening, writing, reading, and speaking). Meanwhile, in the english performance competition, students compete in debate and speech presentation.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aimed at measuring the effectiveness of using English cartoon movies towards students listening comprehension in tenth grade at SMAN 1 Tembilahan. The study included quasi-experimental design, especially a non-randomized control group, a pre-test, and a post-test. The researcher designed the lesson plan, conducted the treatment, and observed the students' scores by pre-test and post-test. The population of study was the tenth graders of SMAN 1 Tembilahan, which consisted of two classes with 47 students. The researchers chose X MIPA 3 as the control class and X MIPA 2 as the experiment class, which are both samples. The sample was determined using the purposive sampling technique. The researcher applied the T-test calculation to test the hypothesis and analyze the data. The result of the T-test using manual calculation found t-observed (10,767) and t-table at a significance level of 5% (1,6793). It meant t-observed > t-table. It was interpreted that the alternative hypotheses (Ha) stating there is a significant effect of English cartoon movies on students’ listening comprehension at the tenth grade level of SMAN 1 Tembilahan were accepted and the null hypotheses (Ho) stating there is no significant effect of English cartoon movies on students’ listening comprehension at the tenth grade level of SMAN 1 Tembilahan were rejected. It was proved that the value of t-observed was higher than t-table, either at significance level 5% It meant that teaching listening using English cartoon movies had a significant effect on students’ listening comprehension in tenth grade at SMAN 1 Tembilahan.]]>

<![CDATA[The importance of this research is to find out the method that teachers use in reading comprehension. This research was conducted at MAS Pondok Pesantren Tunas Harapan Tembilahan. The research used descriptive qualitative with two instruments, namely questionnaire and interview to find and analyze the data collected by the researcher during the research. The population is 1 population and 1 sample, the subject of this research was the English teacher at MAS Pondok Pesantren Tunas Harapan Tembilahan. Data were collected using questionnaires and interviews. Which consists of 13 statements and 4 questions. The results of this study indicate that, the English teacher at MAS Pondok Pesantren Tunas Harapan Tembilahan used 3 dominant methods namely, the phonic method, the language experience approach, and quantum teaching, but based on the interview the teacher said that she used read aloud, the teacher felt that the method was effective because it can help students overcome their difficulties in reading comprehension.]]>

<![CDATA[The problem of this research was the Eighth- grade students of SMPN 1 Kuindra got problem while they speak in front of the class. It is assumed that their perception of their speaking performance is the cause of this problem . Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know “students’ Perception on the Speaking Performance in the classroom at the Eighth Grade of SMPN 1 Kuindra”. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher was distributing questionnaire to 31 respondents to answer the purpose above. The sample was taken by using saturated sampling, because the sample is limited. After collecting the data, the researcher found that students’ perception on speaking performance is in good level. It can be interpreted that, most of students of the eighth-grade of SMPN 1 Kuindra perhaps can become a good speaking performers. It means not only good or bad perception can influence students’ speaking but also some other factors.]]>

<![CDATA[In making observation, the researcher found that many students had problems in learning methods in class and also problems in reading comprehension because of them felt that they did not know what the text was about. In reading ability the students find it difficult to understand the text given during the learning process in the class. In this research, the researcher used the Quizizz application with different features than usual but it is more effective in evaluating students learning in teaching reading in a text. The population of this study was all second semester students, totaling 20 students in English Study Program at Islamic University of Indragiri. To get the research data, the researcher gave a test as an instrument. The result of this study indicate that the average score in before using quizizz was 46 while in after using quizizz was 38. The result of analysis, it showed that the value T-observed 1.23 was lower than T-table was 2.03 and 2.72 in significant 5% and 1%. Based on the result, it was provided that the null hypothesis (H0) was accepted and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected. Therefore, there was no a significant effect of using quizizz on students’ ability in reading comprehension at English Study Program Islamic University of Indragiri.]]>

<![CDATA[The problem of this research was the Tenth Grade students of SMAS Nurul Ikhlas Sungai Raya feel difficult to answer some questions relate to announcement text. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know “Students' ability in Understanding Announcement Text”. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher was distributing test to 18 respondents to answer the purpose above. The sample was taken by using total sampling, because the sample is limited. After collecting the data, the researcher found that students’ ability in understanding announcement text at Tenth Grade of SMAS Nurul Ikhlas Sungai Raya is in low level. It can be seen from the mean score of students’ test that is 54.75. It means that their ability in understanding announcement text still needs improvement.]]>

<![CDATA[The problem of this research was the tenth-grade students of Eleventh Grade of SMAN Islam Terpadu Syech Walid Thaib Shaleh Indragiri Sungai Iliran feel difficult to answer some questions in reading. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to know “factors causing students difficulties in understanding Reading Text”. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The researcher was distributing questionnaire to 20 respondents to answer the purpose above. The sample was taken by using total sampling, because the sample is limited. After collecting the data, the researcher found that there are four factors causing students difficulties in understanding reading text at Eleventh Grade of SMAN Islam Terpadu Syech Walid Thaib Shaleh Indragiri. They are feeling bored and lazy in reading, cannot use the leisure time maximally for reading, lack of English book at school and uninteresting teaching learning process.]]>

<![CDATA[The importance of conducting this research is to introduce to students that through English listening lessons, they can get used to listening in English. The researcher conducted this study to gather information about students' perceptions of learning listening at SMAN 1 Tembilahan as an illustration of whether the implementation of learning listening can support students' English language proficiency. The design of this research was Descriptive Quantitative. The sample of this study consists of 60 students from the 11th grade, which is divided into 9 classes, from SMAN 1 Tembilahan. To determine the sample, the researcher used the systematic random sampling technique. The total population is 306 students. In collecting data, the researcher used questionnaire as a research tool. This questionnaire is used to determine students' perceptions of the implementation of listening lessons at SMAN 1 Tembilahan. The questionnaire used in the study is presented in 5 (five) alternatives commonly known as the Likert Scale. The research results indicate that students' perceptions of listening learning are less (55.82%), because 55.82% is still in < 55%. So, it can be concluded that students' perception of listening learning at SMAN 1 Tembilahan is less.]]>

<![CDATA[Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan berbicara Bahasa Inggris (speaking skill) anak-anak di Panti Asuhan Puri Kasih Tembilahan melalui implementasi metode Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) pada materi Describing Place. Metode ini dipilih karena berfokus pada penggunaan bahasa dalam konteks nyata dan mampu mendorong interaksi dan partisipasi aktif siswa. Kegiatan pengajaran dilaksanakan selama tiga hari dengan tehnik yang beragam yaitu Vocabulary and Guided Speaking, Asking and Giving Information about Place, dan My favourite Place Presentation. Hasil Kegiatan menunjukkan ada peningkatan kepercayaan diri dan kemampuan siswa dalam membuat kalimat deskriptif secara lisan. Disamping itu penerapan metode CLT membangun atmosfer belajar yang menyenangkan dan komunikatif dimana siswa lebih berani mengungkapkan idenya dalam bahasa inggris serta mampu bekerja sama dalam kelompok. Dari hasil tersebut dapat dikatakan bahwa metode CLT sangat efektif dan relevan untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di lingkungan non-formal seperti panti asuhan.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aims to explore the rural EFL teacher’s challenges in improving students’ higher order thinking skills. The participant of this research was one English teacher who teach in the Junior High School in Gaung district. By using qualitative approach, the researchers collected the data employs non-participant observation in the teaching and learning process, interviewed the English teacher, and took documents by collecting the lesson plan. The result of this research showed that the challenges in teaching higher-order thinking skills in the rural area are the teacher’s knowledge and ability to teaching for HOTS is still low, passive students, students’ low English proficiency, the limitation of the school facility, and lack of sources. Based on the finding above, this research recommends to the school to give a facility or train the teachers about how to teach the students’ higher-order thinking skills based on the demand of 2013 Curriculum. Besides that, the development of HOTS in the rural area is not easy for the teachers because of all those challenges. So, the headmaster or the education authorities should find the solution to make all the students in the rural area can reach the expectation of the Higher Order Thinking based on 2013 curriculum.]]>
