Abstract

Keterlibatan anggota PMR dalam berbagai kegiatan kepalangmerahan merupakan karya dan bakti nyata. Dalam interaksinya para anggota PMR dituntut untuk memiliki keterampilan komunikasi interpersonal yang baik. Hal ini didasarkan pada sebuah logika yang sangat sederhana bahwa proses komunikasi interpersonal dapat menentukan perubahan sikap dan tingkah laku anggota dalam organisasi yang disebabkan oleh adanya keterbukaan dan kepercayaan antar individu yang tergabung didalamnya. Oleh karena itu, penting bagi anggota PMR untuk memiliki kemampuan komunikasi interpersonal dalam interaksi sosial pada organisasi yang menempah mereka menjadi sosok yang terampil, kreatif, dan bersahabat. Setelah proses pelatihan komunikasi interpersonal peserta yang merupakan anggota PMR mulai mengetahui pentingnya memiliki kemampuan komunikasi interpersonal serta beberapa peserta mulai mempraktikkan cara menerapkan kemampuan komunikasi interpersonal.

Abstract

Pelatihan ini bertujuan meningkatkan kemampuan para guru bidang studi bahasa Inggris khususnya pengetahuan tentang Structure dan Written Expression karena bagian ini merupakan salah satu bagian TOEFL yang dianggap masih memerlukan kajian yang lebih mendalam khususnya strategi – strategi dalam menjawab soal – soal Structure dan Written Expression. Dengan demikian, manfaat yang diharapkan dari kegiatan ini adalah mampu mengembangkan potensi dan sumber daya guru-guru bahasa Inggris SMPN Negeri 1 Palleko Kabupaten Takalar khususnya keterampilan berbahasa demi meningkatkan profesionalisme mereka. Salah satu wujud dari kegiatan yaitu dengan diadakannya pelatihan TOEFL secara intensif bagi guru bahasa Inggris khususnya tentang Structure dan Written Expression. Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, latihan mengerjakan soal – soal TOEFL dan simulasi tes TOEFL. Hasil tes menunjukkan 80% peserta telah menunjukkan peningkatan kemampuan dalam mengerjakan soal-soal Structure dan Written Expression dalam TOEFL.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the competence of English teachers in senior high schools in Pangkep. This study used a qualitative method. The population of this study included teachers in senior high schools in Pangkep, with the sample consisting of English teachers from SMAN 2 Pangkep, SMAN 9 Pangkep, and SMAN 10 Pangkep. The research instrument used was an observation checklist. The results showed that English teachers from the three schools demonstrated good professional, personality, and social competence. However, in terms of pedagogical competence, all three schools, especially SMAN 10 Pangkep, needed improvement. At SMAN 10 Pangkep, pedagogical competence was not well implemented because the learning process still took place online, as students came from the islands in Pangkep, thus hindering the proper implementation of this competence.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kesesuaian buku teks bahasa Inggris yang digunakan di MTs. Barana dengan standar buku ajar yang baik. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan buku teks bahasa Inggris untuk kelas 7 SMP, dan seorang guru bahasa Inggris sebagai subjek dalam penelitian ini. Dalam pengumpulan data, instrumen penelitian dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara dan checklist. Wawancara dilakukan dengan guru bahasa Inggris untuk mendapatkan informasi mengenai kelayakan buku teks bahasa Inggris. Peneliti menemukan bahwa berdasarkan hasil evaluasi buku teks, dari empat kategori standar buku teks yang baik, (1) terdapat satu kategori untuk buku teks 1 “When English Rings a Bell” yang memiliki nilai rendah yaitu kesesuaian grafik, khususnya untuk bagian penutup buku teks, mendapat skor persentase 60% (netral). (2) Pada buku ajar 2 “Bahasa Inggris untuk Nusantara” hanya terdapat satu kategori yang mempunyai skor rendah yaitu kesesuaian grafik khususnya pada bagian penutup buku teks dengan persentase skor sebesar 78,7% (sesuai). Secara keseluruhan, dilihat dari kebutuhan siswa terhadap buku teks bahasa Inggris, buku teks 2 lebih sesuai dengan kebutuhan mereka dibandingkan buku teks 1.

Abstract

Data pendidikan nasional dari Kemendikbudristek (2024) dan OECD (2023) menunjukkan bahwa lebih dari 68% guru di Indonesia masih menerapkan pembelajaran berbasis hafalan dan berorientasi ujian, yang berdampak pada rendahnya keterlibatan siswa dan lemahnya kemampuan berpikir tingkat tinggi. Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dirancang untuk menjawab kesenjangan pedagogis tersebut melalui penerapan kerangka Deep Learning yang menekankan Mindful, Meaningful, dan Joyful Learning kepada guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMA di Kota Makassar, sejalan dengan implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka. Kegiatan dilaksanakan melalui lokakarya partisipatif dan berbasis pengalaman yang melibatkan 42 guru dalam sesi refleksi, diskusi kolaboratif, serta perancangan Modul Ajar berbasis Deep Learning. Dengan mengacu pada siklus pembelajaran pengalaman Kolb (1984), guru diajak untuk mengalami, merefleksikan, mengkonseptualisasikan, dan menerapkan strategi pembelajaran mendalam ke dalam modul ajar mereka. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan 78% dalam kemampuan guru merancang modul ajar berpusat pada siswa yang memadukan kesadaran diri, relevansi kontekstual, dan suasana belajar yang menyenangkan, serta tingkat kepuasan 91% terhadap kebermanfaatan pelatihan. Lebih jauh lagi, program ini melahirkan komunitas belajar profesional bernama Makassar EFL Deep Learning Educators Circle (MEDLEC), yaitu jejaring guru reflektif yang berkomitmen menumbuhkan inovasi pembelajaran bermakna dan berkelanjutan. Program ini berhasil memperkuat otonomi pedagogis, kolaborasi guru, dan keselarasan praktik mengajar dengan filosofi Kurikulum Merdeka yang menekankan kemandirian, relevansi, dan kebahagiaan dalam belajar

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study explores seventh-grade students’ perceptions of using modified English songs to enhance vocabulary learning at SMPN 3 Minasatene, Indonesia. The research was conducted over four weeks, during which data were collected through semi-structured interviews with three students selected via purposive sampling. The interviews were analyzed thematically following the procedures of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that students viewed modified songs as engaging and helpful tools for learning vocabulary. Adapting song lyrics to match students’ proficiency levels helped them understand word meanings more easily, improve pronunciation, and apply new vocabulary in appropriate contexts. Moreover, the use of songs created a more enjoyable and motivating classroom environment, enhancing students’ confidence in learning English. These results suggest that integrating modified songs into vocabulary instruction can strengthen both linguistic and affective aspects of learning by providing meaningful, memorable, and student-centered language experiences. The study highlights the importance of creative instructional media for young learners and encourages teachers to incorporate modified songs as a practical approach to vocabulary development in English language classrooms.

Abstract

This study explores how persuasive elements in fast-food advertisements influence teenagers’ attitudes and perceptions. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, ten popular McDonald’s and KFC advertisements on YouTube released in the past five years were analyzed. Each ad featured celebrity collaborations, vibrant visuals, and strong audience engagement. Visual, verbal, and audio components were examined through a semiotic framework focusing on denotation, connotation, and underlying cultural meanings. The findings reveal that teenagers mostly respond to advertisements through emotional and visual cues rather than rational evaluation. Elements such as celebrity endorsements, catchy music, humor, bright color schemes, and limited time offers strongly shaped their attitudes toward fast-food brands. A smaller group of students considered product quality and value, but these instances were less common. Overall, the advertisements present fast-food consumption as part of a modern and desirable lifestyle, influencing how teenagers form preferences and social identities. The results highlight the need for stronger media literacy and educational programs that help young people critically assess persuasive messages in digital marketing and make more informed choices in their daily media consumption.

Abstract

In multilingual regions of Eastern Indonesia, English Language Teaching (ELT) materials that lack cultural relevance often fail to engage learners or reflect their linguistic realities. Local folklore offers a culturally grounded source for contextualizing ELT materials to enhance student learning and motivation. This study explores how local folklore can be integrated into ELT materials and investigates students’ multilingual practices and perceptions within a folklore-based classroom. A qualitative case study was conducted with one English teacher and thirty-two students in a multilingual secondary school. Data were collected through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed thematically. Findings show that folklore-based ELT materials enhance engagement, support comprehension through culturally familiar narratives, and promote active participation. Students naturally employed translanguaging strategies to negotiate meaning and strengthen English learning. The integration of folklore also reinforced cultural identity and pride among learners. Overall, contextualizing ELT materials through local folklore proved highly effective in multilingual classrooms, fostering inclusivity, meaningful learning, and cultural awareness. These results highlight the importance of incorporating local narratives into ELT curricula to promote culturally sustaining pedagogy in linguistically diverse settings.

Abstract

Writing fluency is an important aspect of English learning, yet many EFL students struggle to produce continuous and coherent texts because of anxiety, limited vocabulary, and a strong focus on accuracy. This study aims to examine whether free writing activities can improve students’ writing fluency. A quasi-experimental design was used with two groups: an experimental group that received free writing treatment and a control group taught through conventional writing methods. Writing fluency was measured through pre- and post-tests focusing on speed, flow of ideas, and coherence. Data were analyzed using paired-sample and independent-sample t-tests. The results show that the experimental group made significant gains in writing fluency, producing longer and more connected texts, while the control group showed only slight improvement. These findings indicate that free writing is an effective strategy for reducing anxiety and encouraging continuous idea expression. Overall, the study highlights the value of fluency-oriented activities in strengthening students’ writing competence.

Abstract

Developing authentic English-speaking skills, defined here as the ability to communicate spontaneously and appropriately in real-world contexts, and reducing dependency on the first language (L1) are significant challenges for Indonesian EFL learners. This study investigates university students' perceptions of using AI tools like ChatGPT and Google Gemini as scaffolding to mitigate L1 reliance and foster such authentic speaking practice. A mixed-methods explanatory sequential design was employed, beginning with a descriptive survey of 50 Indonesian EFL students, followed by in-depth interviews with 6 participants. Quantitative findings revealed that students positively perceived AI-driven scaffolding, its role in reducing L1 dependency, and its contribution to enhancing authentic communicative competence. Qualitative analysis, framed by Sociocultural Theory, the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), and Skill Acquisition Theory, uncovered three central themes: AI as a dynamic scaffold within the Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD), its effectiveness in driving learner autonomy, and its role in fostering communicative autonomy. The study concludes that AI-assisted scaffolding is perceived as an integrated technological support system that effectively addresses the cognitive, affective, and practical dimensions of L1 dependency, thereby promoting authentic English-speaking proficiency. These findings suggest practical implications for EFL pedagogy, advocating for the strategic integration of AI tools as complementary scaffolds in resource-constrained educational contexts to bridge the gap towards independent and authentic communication.
