Critical Discourse Analysis is often applied to analyze political discourse including public speaking. The analysis of this thesis is based on a theory of CDA and its analysis methods which were represented by Thomas N. Huckin. Whereas the discussion used the descriptive qualitative research method which deals with data that are in the form of words, rather than statistics and attempts to arrive at a rich description of something systematically. It starts by analyzing some features in the text as a whole. Then, it is continued by analyzing some features at sentence-level and word levels. Since it is a critical discourse, therefore those features are analyzed critically. In a fact, it is found a deficiency in analyzing each feature based on the speech of Obama. The last is by doing contextual interpretation; it is summarized what language expression is used by Obama to uncover power and ideology. The interpretation is also based on the results from the two previous analyses. The result shows that CDA can explore the relationships between language, power, and ideology. Through the language used, it can be known the strength of power and the purpose of the speaker, which the power is strongly felt, and the ideology is seen as well as understandable.

ABSTRAKKegiatan pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampigan pengucapan Bahasa Inggris denganmemperhatikan kendala bunyi Bahasa Daerah sebagai dasar dalam merencanakan pola pendampingandan sintagmatik materi. Kegiatan diawali dengan penyampaian materi, yakni peta kendala fonologispenutur Bahasa Sasak, Bahasa Bima, dan Bahasa Sumbawa, strategi pengucapan terkait dengan bunyibunyi yang dianggap bermasalah secara fonologis akibat dari pengaruh negatif Bahasa Daerah dalampembelajaran Bahasa Inggris (negative transfer of mother toungue). Langkah selanjutnya adalahpendampingan. Pendampingan ini dilakukan secara daring dengan platform google meet denganmembagi peserta dalam 3 (tiga) kelompok yang dibimbing oleh masing-masing satu tim pendamping.Kegiatan ini juga dapat dilakukan secara mandiri oleh peserta diwaktu yang lain karena materi jugadisiapkan di Spada Unram. Tahap selanjutnya adalah proses evaluasi. Berdasarkan hasil evaluasi,peserta mempunyai kesadaran akan kendala fonologis yang dirasakan selama ini dalam mengucapkanbunyi Bahasa Inggris. Dengan kesaradan ini, maka peserta dapat dengan mudah menggunakan strategidalam meminimalisir atau bahkan menghilangkan kendala tersebut dalam mengucapkan bunyi BahasaInggris. Di akhir kegiatan ini, peserta memiliki kepercayaan diri yang lebih baik dalam memproduksiujaran Bahasa Inggris lisan, khsusunya keterampilan sepaking dan reading.

Menulis kreatif merupakan salah satu tugas guru yang harus dikerjakan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi sebagai pendidik yang profesional. Menulis kreatif sangat penting karena berkaitan dengan tugas dan profesi guru sebagai tenaga pendidik. Oleh karena itu, tujuan kegiatan ini adalah melakukan pendampingan penulisan kreatif kepada para guru Bahasa Inggris SMA/SMK di Kecamatan Lingsar. Metode yang digunakan untuk mencapai target tersebut adalah partisipatif. Metode ini berorientasi kepada upaya peran serta mitra secara langsung dalam berbagai proses kegiatan, mulai dari proses perencanaan, pelaksanaan sampai dengan evaluasi kegiatan. Rencana kegiatan berlangsung selama 3 bulan. Beberapa jenis kegiatan yang akan dikerjakan, antara lain sosialisasi kepada anggota kelompok mitra, melakukan pendampingan dan kursus singkat tentang metode penulisan kreatif, cara menemukan ide, kaidah-kaidah dalam penulisan kreatif dan menuangkannya ke dalam bentuk tulisan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa pelatihan penulisan kreatif bagi guru Bahasa Inggris SMA/SMK se-Kabupaten Lombok Barat telah memberikan manfaat kepada kelompok mitra. Selain meningkatkan pengetahuan tentang strategi menulis kreatif, juga dapat memberikan motivasi terkait dengan cara menulis fiksi yang baik dan benar menurut kaidah-kaidah ilmiah yang dapat dipertanggungjawabkan.

Kegiatan Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pendampingan Pengembangan Perangkat pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris bagi Guru-guru di Sekolah Dasar Islam Terpadu (SD IT) Mataram. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan atas beberapa permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mitra, yakni (1) guru menemui kesulitan dalam mengkondisikan kelas mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris sehingga tidak terlihat menarik bagi sebagian besar siswa, dan (2) tidak semua siswa dapat mengikuti materi/aktivitas pembelajaran yang dilakukan di kelas karena terkadang pembelajaran yang disampaikan tidak menarik. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan dengan metode partisipatif yang berorientasi pada peran serta secara langsung dalam berbagai proses dan tahapan kegiatan mulai dari perencanaan, pelaksanaan, sampai pada evaluasi kegiatan. Sasaran tidak hanya bertindak sebagai objek kegiatan, tetapi juga sebagai pelaku kegiatan. Sementara itu, Tim Pelaksana bertindak sebagai fasilitator dan motivator. Melihat permasalahan yang dihadapi oleh mitra, maka kegiatan yang ditawarkan sebagai solusi adalah (1) memberikan penyuluhan terhadap model-model pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris, khususnya English For Young Learner (EYL) kepada guru-guru agar memiliki pemahaman dan kompetensi yang lengkap terhadap berbagai model pembelajaran English For Young Learner (EYL), (2) memberikan bimbingan/pendampingan terhadap penyusunan dan pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran English For Young Learner (EYL) sehingga dapat digunakan sebagai perangkat yang tepat dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris English For Young Learner (EYL) terhadap siswa di SD IT Mataram. Hasil kegiatan menunjukan bahwa, seluruh peserta sangat antusias dalam mengikuti kegiatan dan menunjukkan ketercapaiannya dalam mengimplementasikan model, metode, dan tips-tips pembelajaran English For Young Learner kedalam perangkat pembelajaran secara lengkap sehingga diharapkan perangkat pembelajaran tersebut dapat digunakan dalam situasi yang sebenarnya (classroom setting).

By applying qualitative approach, this research is aimed at analyzing and describing the planning, processes and evaluation of the implementation of authentic assessment which is carried out comprehensively regarding the whole activity of learning, including the processes and products of the study so that the students’ activities get appraisal. The authentic assessment demands that the students participate in the real and concrete situation and meaningful. The results of the analysis of the data indicate that the literary subjects, that is the topic of this study, are not yet delivered coherently with the aspects and principles of authentic assessment. It is found that most of the literary subjects are presented and evaluated without being made in line with the scientific and systematic study about the nature and application of authentic assessment. Furthermore, with focus on the studies to all aspects of the implementation of authentic assessment on learning literary subjects, the results of this study contribute to the development of science and theory that are applicable to the teaching and learning of literary subjects. In other words, there is a substantial need to apply the concepts and scientific principles of the implementation of authentic assessment in the teaching and learning of all literary subjects with full consideration being given on the appropriate and comprehensive lesson plan.

One of the main requirements for small-scale cultivators is that they can be used in small plots of land and have simple design and technology. However, many planting tools on the market today are not suitable for narrow land conditions. Therefore, this study aims to design and develop a corn seed planter that can be operated in narrow areas and can improve seed planting efficiency and accurate seed placement. The research parameters observed were the distance between plants, the depth of the planting holes, the number of seeds per planting hole, and the efficiency of using the tool. The results of the research show that the planting tools that have been designed and developed are very easy and practical to operate by farmers on narrow land. The distance between plants varies between 21.3 – 24.2 cm. The depth of the planting hole ranges from 5.4 – 7.1 cm. The distribution of the number of holes filled with 0 seeds was 3.00%, filled with 1 seed was 90.38%, and filled with 2 seeds was 6.62%. Planter efficiency data is 85.61%. This data shows that this cultivator meets the minimum standards for the manually operated cultivator category. This research was about students’ perception of lecturers’ teaching performance at the English Department of FKIP Mataram University Academic Year 2020/2021. This research aims to discover the ideal teaching performances perceived by the students at the English Department of FKIP Mataram University. The method used in this research is descriptive quantitative design. The samples of this study totaled 70 students taken from the fifth, seventh, and ninth semesters. This research used a questionnaire as means of collecting the data. The researcher used a descriptive quantitative method for analyzing and presenting the data gathered from the questionnaire. The result from this research showed that the students at the English Department of FKIP Mataram University gave a significant amount of response in lecturers’ inventiveness (71.4%), lecturers’ preparedness (65.7%), lecturer’ classroom management (62.9%), and lecturers’ clarity of scoring rubric (54.4%). In addition, this study also discovers that the students at the English Department of FKIP Mataram University expected their lecturers to have a vast knowledge of the material subject, be friendly toward the students, have knowledge and ability in I.T. Lastly, the lecturers should be more understanding toward the students. The students in this study responded positively to the lecturers' teaching performance, which impacts their learning motivation and academic results.

This research investigates the impact of using songs on English vocabulary acquisition among seventh-grade students at SMPN 1 Labuapi. It explores how songs can enhance vocabulary learning, boost student engagement, and create a more enjoyable learning environment. A quasi-experimental design was used, comprising a control group and an experimental group. Pre-tests and post-tests assessed vocabulary improvements. Results indicate that the experimental group demonstrated greater advancements in vocabulary mastery than the control group, highlighting the effectiveness of songs in language education.

Bugis language is one of the Bugis ethnic cultural identities, which is still considered safe because it has a very large number of speakers throughout Indonesia. However, this language may undergo an extinction process, if there are no strategic efforts to maintain it. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to reveal the strategy of retaining Bugis speakers in Lombok to preserve the local language. The research was conducted at Paremas East Lombok in June-August 2019. This research used a descriptive quantitative approach. The results showed that the number of Bugis speakers in Lombok still exists, but the number is very small. Strategy to maintain the Bugis language in Lombok can be carried out in several steps, namely, encouraging Bugis people to continue to use the Bugis language in everyday life, promoting the use of Bugis language in the mass media, providing opportunities for Bugis ethnic students to learn their local language at school, and enlivening traditional art activities by telling stories using the Bugis Language. Pulau Lombok, selain memiliki pantai yang indah, juga dikenal memiliki souvenir mutiara yang sering ditawarkan pedagang asongan kepada wisatawan. Namun para pedagang asongan tersebut kurang menguasai percakapan bahasa Inggris, Oleh karena itu, tujuan kegiatan ini adalah melakukan pendampingan kepada kelompok pedangan asongan di Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus Mandalika untuk meningkatkan percakapan Bahasa Inggris tentang cara penawaran barang dagangan kepada wisatawan mancanegara. Metode yang digunakan pada kegiatan ini adalah partisipatif yang berorientasi kepada peran serta mitra secara langsung dalam berbagai proses kegiatan, mulai dari proses perencanaan, pelaksanaan sampai dengan evaluasi kegiatan. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa cara penawaran barang menggunakan Bahasa Inggris masih perlu dilakukan pendampingan secara terus-menerus. Sebagian pedagang asongan sebenarnya sudah terbiasa berkomunikasi dengan wisatawan asing menggunakan Bahasa Inggris, namun jumlahnya masih sangat sedikit. Kepribadian etika menjual juga sudah mulai diterapkan dengan tidak memaksa wisatawan untuk membeli barang dagangan. Mereka juga sudah menyadari bahwa para wisatawan memiliki banyak pilihan untuk membeli souvenir dengan harga yang cukup bersaing.
