Abstract

Signs for entering prayer times are still hotly discussed in Indonesia, especially the sign for entering the time for the Fajr prayer. This paper tries to describe the signs of prayer times from the point of view of Islamic law and astronomy. With a normative descriptive approach, it is hoped that this paper can find answers to the problem of entering prayer times in Indonesia. Signs of entering pure prayer times are based on the apparent circulation of the sun. There are three kinds of daily phenomena of the sun which are used as a sign of entering the prayer time. The shadow of the sun for the sign of entering the time for the Zuhur and Asar prayers. The sun disk is a sign of entering the time for the Maghrib prayer. The bias of sunlight for the sign of entering the time of Isha and Fajr prayers. The sun sign is changed in the form of the height of the sun which is adjusted to the daily time angle of the sun, so that each entry in the sign can be easily translated in the standard form of time in the respective area.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the religious countries that regulates the issue of public worship. This paper tries to establish the dynamics of the Ministry of Religion in regulating prayer schedules in Indonesia. With a normative approach, it is expected to find the role, authority and function of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in regulating prayer schedules in Indonesia.  From the explanation of the Law and Regulation of the Minister of Religious Affairs, it can be concluded that there are three main tasks of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in the issue of hisab rukyat, namely preparation, implementation, and evaluation.  From these three main tasks, it can be concluded that the role of the Ministry of Religious Affairs is also normative, namely controllers, facilitators, and legislators. In the view of the sociology of knowledge, the role of the Ministry of Religious Affairs as an institution that gives birth to legitimacy on the issue of prayer time in Indonesia must be seen in the process of legitimacy operatively in the social context. Ideally, the institution of the Ministry of Religious Affairs in giving birth to legitimacy for prayer times becomes new knowledge information or creates new knowledge in the social space of science, but at this time it still seems to strengthen the knowledge of one of the existing knowledge, even tends to only support knowledge that is already strong.

Abstract

Accuracy of time is very closely related to Islamic law, a lot of worship related to time, such as prayer times, breaking fast and ruling. Without a standard time accuracy, worship can not be done perfectly. The clock is a marker of time that makes it easy for Muslims to carry out worship and social activities. Until now there has been no clock that can survive accuracy with a long time, meaning that all clocks must be calibrated within a certain time span. The time standard for clock calibration is the Atomic Clock time that is on the GPS or on the link http://ntp.bmkg.go.id/Jam.BMKG controlled by Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG). This study tries to find the accuracy of mosque hours and the type of clock used in mosques in Lhokseumawe City by using the method of observation and documentation of 20 mosques selected as samples in the study. The results of observation and documentation show that all mosques (100%) in Kota Lhokseumawe have used the clock as a timemarker, 12 mosques, or 60% of the mosque has been using a digital clock with accuracy of 50% in accordance with the standard and 35% analog clock in accordance with a clock standard observer BMKG.Keywords: Time System, Global Positioning System (GPS), Mosque and Lhokseumawe.

Abstract

The determination of Hijri month beginnings is frequently disputed, particularly due to the subjective nature of the ru’yah (visual sighting) method, which is affected by observer bias and atmospheric variability. This study addresses a contested hilāl sighting in Aceh Jaya for Zulhijjah 1, 1446, where a photograph led to uncertainty in official determination. To mitigate misinterpretation, an artificial intelligence (AI)-based public website utilizing Google’s Teachable Machine was developed and tested. Descriptive analysis was conducted on two disputed photographic samples from the event. The AI model, trained for crescent (hilāl) image classification, consistently identified both samples as non-hilāl with a confidence exceeding 97%. The findings indicate the images were likely artifacts or noise rather than genuine crescent sightings. The research demonstrates that AI platforms provide reliable, objective support in hilāl verification, enhancing the standardization and credibility of Hijri calendar determinations for religious and scientific authorities.

Abstract

In the performance of prayer services, a person is required to face towards the Qibla as a valid condition of prayer. The understanding of facing the Qibla must be understood properly and optimally so that efforts to face the Qibla can be done properly and precisely. but for people who are far from Mecca and cannot see the Kaaba directly, the majority of scholars only require facing towards the Kaaba. However, when reviewed, the scholars actually have an agreement that for the person who can see the Kaaba, and the person who cannot see the Kaaba but in fact he can have faith to know the direction to the Kaaba. This research tried to find the opinion of jungka Gajah scholars about the law of observing the qibla for those far from the Kaaba and the limits of tolerance for the direction of qibla for people far from the Kaaba. This research tried to find the opinion of jungka Gajah scholars about the law of observing the qibla for those far from the Kaaba and the limits of tolerance for the direction of qibla for people far from the Kaaba. This research is empirical research using a qualitative approach. With data obtained from interviews with religious leaders Jungka Gajah North Aceh. The data obtained using interview techniques and literature studies, then descriptive analysis with stages of reduction and verification. The results of the research obtained showed: Religious leader Jungka Gajah said that the law confronts the direction of the Qibla when the legal prayer is mandatory, if the person can see the kaaba directly, it is mandatory to face the 'ainul Kaaba when praying. And for the person who cannot see the kaaba then the person must have faith in determining the correct direction of the Qibla. And can make the mosque as a benchmark for the direction of the Qibla, if the mosque has been calculated the direction of the Qibla by people who are experts in the field. The direction of the Qibla that can still be tolerated is that if the shift is below 2 degrees, it can still be forgiven. Because the shift of 2 degrees when people perform prayers cannot be clearly seen with the naked eye the shift in the body of the person who performs the prayer.

Abstract

The determination of the mandatory time to issue zakat fitrah has been dominated by the perspective of jurisprudence, even though the time of issuing zakat fitrah is closely related to the Hijri calendar system. Currently, the criteria in the preparation of the Hijri calendar system have varied, in Indonesia alone, there are criteria for the true hisab of the hilal title, there are also the criteria for the true hisab of imkan rukyat, and there are also the criteria for the rukyah hilal. In the perspective of jurisprudence, the mandatory time to issue zakat fitrah is the night of 1 Shawwal for people who live from Ramadan to enter Shawwal, if one of the months is not found, then it is not mandatory to issue zakat fitrah for him. In terms of science, the beginning of the Hijri month is greatly influenced by the criteria used, there are hisab criteria and there are rukyat criteria. It is very likely that there is a difference in the determination of 1 Shawwal between the two criteria. This difference will have an impact on the mandatory time to issue zakat fitrah. This study concluded that the mandatory time to issue zakat fitrah depends on the criteria for determining the beginning of the Hijri month that he believes, so the difference in determining the mandatory time to issue zakat fitrah is very wide open as long as the criteria for the Hijri calendar have not been uniform.

Abstract

The implementation of the Rukyat hilal sighting includes an important concern for Muslims. Among the supports for the successful implementation of hilal sightings is the existence of standard and ideal hilal sightings. Based on the author's observations and interviews with reckoning and rukyat staff at the Lhokseumawe Ministry of Religion, POB Blang Tiron Bukit Pole housing complex PT. Perta Arun Gas Lhokseumawe still has not succeeded in seeing the new moon, especially for the sighting of the new moon at the beginning of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal (Idul Fitri). So that the POB Bukit Pole Blang Tiron housing complex PT. Perta Arun Gas Lhokseumawe has never printed data on the sighting of the new moon to the Indonesian Ministry of Religion's Hisab Rukyat Agency (BHR). This research uses qualitative methods with the type of research used is field research through direct observation in the field and uses theories taken from the literature in the form of books, journals and others to strengthen research. While the data collection technique uses descriptive analysis method. The research location is located at the Blang Tiron Moon Observation Post, Bukit Pole, Housing Complex of PT. Perta Arun Gas Lhokseumawe. The research results in this study are (1). Natural conditions of the Blang Tiron Bukit Pole Observation Post, Housing Complex of PT. Perta Arun Gas Lhokseumawe apparently has not met the standards set by the Ministry of Religion and the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG). (2). The success rate of Rukyat Hilal sightings at the POB Blang Tiron Bukit Pole Housing Complex PT. Perta Arun Gas Lhokseumawe still does not meet the average sighting of the new hilal as data on the hilal study spanning four years for the month of Ramadan and Shawwal 1438-1441 H/2017-2020 M.

Abstract

Astronomical phenomenon occur for only a limited amount of time. Observing these phenomenon requires competent promoters and appropriate instruments. The field of view is one of the things that needs to be clearly known so that the observation can take place properly. In this study, joint observations were made between IAIN Lhokseumawe Falak Science Study Programme and OIF UMSU in Medan and Barus. The instruments used in these observations are different, resulting in a variety of fields of view and calculations are needed to get a description of the results. This study aims to calculate the field of view and visibility of the observed phenomenon, the conjunction of the Moon - Jupiter. The results obtained are for the instrument used by IAIN Lhokseumawe Falak Science Study Program at Malikussaleh Observatory has a field of view of 2°7'46.13‘ × 1°25'22.25’, the instrument used by UMSU Medan Falak Science Observatory has a field of view of 1°8'26.96‘ × 0°54'45.57’, and the instrument used by the OIF UMSU Barus team has a field of view of 1°0'43.74’ × 0°41'1.98. Using this combination of instruments cannot observe the conjunction phenomenon, because the elongation of the Moon - Jupiter at the time of the observation is >4°, so to be able to get the visibility of the phenomenon in 1 image requires an instrument that produces a field of view of ~5°.
