Abstract

Abstract

Cities that are considered promising by rural communities to seek a better welfare life force them to look for space to fulfill their needs. Public places then become an alternative for them in making a living such as in shopping places, flyovers, and at road intersections. Makassar as one of the metropolitan cities is also inseparable from economic problems and social problems such as the existence of street children. This research was conducted using an in-depth interview method conducted to informants who the author considers capable of providing data and information related to the causes of the increase in the number of street children in Makassar city. The theory used is the theory of space production. The increase in the number of street children in Makassar City is caused by three factors, namely urban development factors. the second factor is urbanization carried out by rural communities to obtain a more decent life, and the third factor is the exploitation behavior carried out by individuals and families of these street children.

Abstract

This study examines social media as a platform for rejecting mining concessions by Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah. Using a qualitative case study approach and Nvivo 12 Plus for analysis, it draws data from Twitter/X. The findings reveal differing protest focuses: criticism of Muhammadiyah highlights its reputation, while protests against Nahdlatul Ulama emphasize concession acceptance. Social media amplifies voices broadly, playing a key role in modern protests. Popular narratives mainly center on mining, with some also scrutinizing Muhammadiyah. A significant wave of rejection emerged, with strong negative reactions from netizens. This study has limitations in focusing data on social media platforms such as Twitter/X. Recommendations for further research can focus on environmental issues and Indigenous communities in the frame of protests through social media.

Abstract

The continuation of land conflicts has ecological, economic, and social implications. This has motivated women survivors of conflict to organize movements. This study aims to explore the strategies, patterns, and forms of the movement and its meaning in relation to ecofeminism. This research uses qualitative methods. The results of the study show that, first, the women's movement is a reformative movement. Second, the movement's strategies involve protests and framing, mobilizing solidarity through religious activities, and environmental empowerment. These strategies affirm the value of ecofeminism in movements organized by local women. This study concludes that the movement of women survivors of land conflict reflects the ecofeminist movement, by voicing justice at the local level as well as an effort to deconstruct the legacy of agrarian colonialism, which is structurally unequal and gender biased. This study contributes to the study of ecofeminism in Indonesia by enriching the agrarian-based conceptual understanding and experiences of local women's movements.

Abstract

This article provides a critical analysis of the internalization of the values and objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 on Quality Education, within the human resource development policy framework as articulated in the 2021-2026 Regional Medium-Term Development Plan. Employing a normative legal research method grounded in literature review and political policy analysis, the study examines the characteristics of policy integration, the vertical and horizontal relationships among levels of government, and the dynamics between global development standards and local policy needs. The research draws upon official planning instruments, academic literature, and development reports, which were analyzed through thematic and discourse analysis to identify narrative constructions, policy rationalities, and the coherence between global objectives and regional policy orientations. The findings indicate that the incorporation of Quality Education objectives into regional planning documents remains predominantly administrative in nature, with a strong emphasis on quantitative indicators such as the provision of educational facilities and the qualifications of teaching personnel. In contrast, substantive dimensions at the core of the global agenda including equitable access to education, improvements in learning outcomes, inclusive pedagogical environments, and context-responsive capacity development for educators have not been positioned as central priorities in policy formulation. Furthermore, references to local cultural values appear merely declaratory and are not supported by operational or implementable frameworks. This article underscores the importance of adopting a glocalization-based approach that does not merely replicate global policy templates but instead reconstructs them through local values, empirical needs, and institutional capacities. Such an approach offers the potential to produce educational policies that are more responsive, equitable, and aligned with transformative human development objectives.

Abstract

Abstract

Paradiplomacy is an important strategy in the context of regional autonomy that allows local governments to build international cooperation to support local development. This article discusses how paradiplomacy becomes a means of reactualizing the authority of local governments within the framework of national policies, and how these activities have an impact on the effectiveness of local development while maintaining state sovereignty. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, and highlights the practices of Surabaya City Government as a case study. Data was obtained from official documents, academic publications, international cooperation reports, and government regulations. The results of the study show that Surabaya actively cooperates abroad through sister city schemes with various world cities, producing benefits in the fields of education, environment, creative economy, and strengthening human resource capacity. However, the effectiveness of paradiplomacy is highly dependent on synergy with the central government and compliance with national regulations governing foreign affairs, as the exclusive authority of the state. The findings confirm that paradiplomacy can be a strategic local development instrument if it is managed purposefully and in strong coordination with national policies, so that it does not interfere with the principles of state sovereignty and integrity.

Abstract

The land conflict between the Pandumaan-Sipituhuta indigenous community and PT Toba Pulp Lestari is a form of agrarian conflict involving claims to control customary territory and corporate interests. This study aims to analyze the role of the Indigenous Peoples Alliance of the Archipelago (AMAN) in this conflict. The approach used was qualitative with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and documentation studies. The results of the study indicate that AMAN plays a significant role in various aspects, such as legal assistance, mass mobilization, community organizing, legal education, and village deliberations. In addition, AMAN also builds networks with various parties to strengthen the bargaining position of indigenous communities. Through these roles, AMAN has succeeded in increasing the bargaining power of the Pandumaan-Sipituhuta indigenous community in facing the conflict with PT Toba Pulp Lestari. This study confirms that advocacy organizations such as AMAN have a crucial role in fighting for the rights of indigenous communities in land disputes, as well as being agents of change in resolving agrarian conflicts.

Abstract

This study analyses the form and role of social capital in the management of Community Forests(HKm) in Muaro Jambi District. Using a comparative qualitative approach, the study comparestwo HKm organisations with different institutional categories, namely the Koperasi Multi UsahaMandiri (gold category) and KTH Bumi Indah Sejahtera (blue category). Data collection wasconducted through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation studies. The resultsshow that social capital in both groups is reflected in three dimensions: bonding, bridging, andlinking. The bonding dimension is strong in both groups, characterised by trust, mutualcooperation, and member participation. The bridging dimension developed better in KoperasiMulti Usaha Mandiri through horizontal networking with other cooperatives. The most decisivefactor was the linking dimension, which showed the most notable difference. The Multi-BusinessCooperative had strong vertical relationships with the village government and the forestryservice, thereby supporting institutional strengthening and improving the group's economicachievements. Conversely, KTH Bumi Indah Sejahtera has weak linking capital due to a lack ofcoordination with the village government, which has resulted in limited programme support andeconomic outcomes. This study concludes that the success of HKm management depends not onlyon internal cohesion, but primarily on the group's ability to build vertical networks to gain accessto resources and policy support.

Abstract

This study aims to explain the electoral defeat of the Har–Guntur pair in the 2024 Jambi City local election by emphasizing the interaction between internal candidate weaknesses and the strategic advantages of their opponents. Departing from the phenomenon of high political visibility that was not fully matched by electoral participation, as well as the limited availability of candidate alternatives, this research employs a qualitative approach through the analysis of survey data, media coverage, and campaign dynamics. The findings reveal that the defeat of Har–Guntur was not caused by a single factor, but rather by an accumulation of weaknesses, including poor consolidation of the campaign team, suboptimal performance of the supporting party machinery, and political communication strategies that failed to resonate with voters’ needs. In contrast, the Maulana–Diza pair effectively leveraged their strategic advantages by offering concrete programs, strengthening a people-oriented personal image, and utilizing communication channels more effectively. A significant gap in electability had already emerged prior to election day, indicating a systematically constructed political dominance. These findings underline that in the context of local politics, electoral victory is not solely determined by structural party support, but also by a candidate’s ability to integrate political consolidation, effective communication, and relevant programmatic offerings. This study contributes to the literature on voter behavior and local electoral competition by demonstrating that electoral defeat is the result of a complex interaction of multiple reinforcing factors.
