Abstract

Risky behavior that commonly emerges during adolescence is cigarette smoking, which has detrimental effects on adolescents’ health and overall development. The increasing prevalence of smoking among individuals aged 10–18 years highlights the need for closer attention to the factors influencing this behavior. One important factor is parenting style, as it plays a crucial role in shaping character, instilling discipline, and strengthening adolescents’ capacity for self-regulation. This study employed a cross-sectional design, in which the independent variable (parenting style) and the dependent variable (smoking behavior) were measured simultaneously. The sample consisted of 128 male eleventh-grade students at SMAN Demak. Data were analyzed bivariately using the Gamma correlation test, a nonparametric statistical method appropriate for ordinal-scale variables. The Spearman Rank test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a statistically significant relationship between parenting style and smoking behavior among male adolescents. The Gamma correlation coefficient of −0.630 indicates a strong negative association, suggesting that more positive parenting styles are associated with lower tendencies to smoke. These findings confirm that positive and supportive parenting practices may serve as an important protective factor in preventing adolescents’ involvement in smoking behavior.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between hedonistic lifestyle tendencies and self-esteem among students at the Faculty of Nursing, Sultan Agung Islamic University in Semarang. Using a quantitative correlational design, the study analyzed data from 115 respondents to determine the strength and significance of the association between the two variables. The findings demonstrate a significant and strong positive correlation (p = 0.000; r = 0.764), indicating that students with higher hedonistic tendencies tend to report higher levels of self-esteem. This pattern suggests that a considerable portion of students develop a sense of self-worth based on external reinforcement such as social acceptance, peer approval, and recognition from their environment. Although such externally driven self-esteem may enhance confidence temporarily, it may also be unstable because it relies heavily on fluctuating social dynamics. To foster healthier psychological development, students are encouraged to cultivate internal sources of self-worth, while educational institutions are advised to provide programs on healthy lifestyle management, financial literacy, and mental health support. Future researchers are recommended to incorporate longitudinal approaches and include additional variables such as digital platform usage, family support, and peer influence to broaden the generalizability of the findings.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology has intensified online gaming engagement among university students and raised concerns regarding its potential effects on psychological health and learning motivation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between online gaming and students’ learning motivation. A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach was employed involving 105 students from the Faculty of Nursing, Sultan Agung Islamic University Semarang, selected through probability random sampling. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring online gaming intensity and learning motivation. Statistical analyses included univariate and bivariate procedures using Somers’ d test. The findings revealed that most respondents demonstrated high gaming intensity (45.7%) and low learning motivation (44.8%). The Somers’ d test produced a coefficient of –0.713 with p = 0.000, indicating a strong and significant negative relationship between online gaming and learning motivation. These results suggest that excessive gaming is associated with reduced academic focus, poorer time management, and diminished learning responsibility. The study underscores the importance of managing students’ digital behavior through healthy technology literacy and preventive academic interventions to sustain learning motivation in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the relationship between self-confidence and academic achievement among students of MTs in Demak. The research employed an empirical quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design involving 114 students selected through probability sampling using the Slovin formula. Self-confidence was measured using a validated Likert-scale questionnaire with high reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.949), while academic achievement was obtained from documented report card averages. Univariate analysis indicated that most students had moderate levels of self-confidence and fairly good academic achievement. Bivariate analysis using Spearman Rho revealed a very strong positive correlation between self-confidence and academic achievement (r = 0.843; p < 0.05). The findings demonstrate that higher levels of self-confidence are associated with better academic outcomes. The results support psychological theories emphasizing the role of internal affective factors in learning performance and highlight the importance of strengthening students’ self-confidence to improve educational quality at the secondary Islamic school level.

Abstract

The development of information and communication technology has led to an increase in smartphone use among students. Smartphones are used not only to support academic activities but also for entertainment and social communication. High smartphone usage can impact various aspects of student life, including quality of life, encompassing physical, psychological, social, and environmental dimensions. This study used a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 100 undergraduate students of the Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Nursing, UNISSULA, selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The research instruments used were the Smartphone Addiction Scale–Short Version (SAS-SV) and the WHOQOL-BREF. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a high smartphone usage intensity (63%) and a good quality of life (62%). The Spearman Rank test showed a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05) with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.751, indicating a significant relationship with a strong correlation between smartphone usage intensity and students' quality of life. The conclusion of this study indicates a relationship between the intensity of smartphone use and quality of life in college students

Abstract

Work readiness among vocational high school students is not solely determined by technical skills, but also by self-confidence, commonly referred to as self-efficacy. Students who believe in their abilities tend to feel more prepared and confident when entering the workforce. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and work readiness among vocational high school students. The research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach, involving 140 respondents. Data were collected using self-efficacy and work-readiness questionnaires, and analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation test. The univariate analysis showed that most students had a moderate level of self-efficacy (81 students; 57.9%). The largest proportion of students demonstrated low work readiness (54 students; 38.6%). Most respondents were male (73 students; 52.1%). The dominant age group was 17 years (84 students; 60%), and the largest proportion of students came from the automotive engineering major (55 students; 39.3%). The bivariate analysis using the Spearman rank test revealed a significant relationship between self-efficacy and work readiness (p = 0.000, < 0.05), with a strong correlation (r = 0.772). These findings indicate that self-efficacy is significantly associated with students’ work readiness.

Abstract

Penggunaan media sosial, khususnya Instagram, berperan dalam membentuk persepsi diri mahasiswa yang sedang berada pada fase pencarian identitas, sehingga berpotensi memengaruhi self esteem dan body image. Paparan konten visual yang menampilkan standar kecantikan ideal dapat memicu perbandingan sosial dan penilaian terhadap diri sendiri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self esteem dengan body image pada mahasiswa pengguna Instagram. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kuantitatif dengan desain korelasional dan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel penelitian berjumlah 107 mahasiswa Fakultas Ilmu Keperawatan Universitas Islam Sultan Agung Semarang angkatan 2024 yang dipilih menggunakan teknik simple random sampling. Pengumpulan data dilakukan menggunakan kuesioner Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale (RSES) dan Multidimensional Body Self Relations Questionnaire (MBSRQ) yang telah teruji validitas dan reliabilitasnya. Analisis data dilakukan secara univariat dan bivariat menggunakan uji Chi-Square. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar responden berusia 19 tahun dan berjenis kelamin perempuan. Tingkat self esteem responden berada pada kategori normal (79,4%), sedangkan body image berada pada kategori tinggi (55,1%). Hasil analisis bivariat menunjukkan nilai p = 0,031 yang menandakan adanya hubungan yang signifikan antara self esteem dengan body image pada mahasiswa pengguna Instagram. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa semakin tinggi self esteem yang dimiliki mahasiswa, semakin positif pula body image yang terbentuk. Temuan ini menegaskan pentingnya penguatan self esteem sebagai upaya preventif dalam menjaga kesehatan psikososial mahasiswa di era media sosial.

Abstract

Pendidikan memegang peranan krusial dalam pengembangan potensi siswa. Kepercayaan diri menjadi faktor penting yang memengaruhi kemampuan siswa dalam bersosialisasi, beradaptasi, dan mencapai prestasi belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis hubungan antara tingkat kepercayaan diri dengan prestasi belajar siswa di MTS di Demak. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan desain cross-sectional. Populasi penelitian adalah seluruh siswa kelas VII dan VIII di MTS Miftahut Tholibin Demak yang berjumlah 160 siswa. Sampel penelitian sebanyak 114 siswa dipilih menggunakan teknik probability sampling dengan rumus Slovin. Data dikumpulkan melalui kuesioner kepercayaan diri (20 pertanyaan) dan rata-rata nilai rapor siswa. Analisis data dilakukan secara univariat untuk mendeskripsikan karakteristik responden, tingkat kepercayaan diri, dan prestasi belajar, serta bivariat menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman Rho untuk menganalisis hubungan antar variabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas responden adalah perempuan (63,2%), dengan sebaran kelas VII dan VIII yang seimbang (masing-masing 50%). Tingkat kepercayaan diri siswa mayoritas berada pada kategori sedang (57,0%), diikuti oleh tinggi (28,1%) dan sangat tinggi (8,8%). Prestasi belajar siswa sebagian besar berada pada kategori cukup baik (51,8%), diikuti oleh sangat baik (27,2%) dan baik (16,7%). Analisis bivariat menunjukkan adanya hubungan positif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara tingkat kepercayaan diri dengan prestasi belajar siswa (koefisien korelasi Spearman Rho = 0,843; p-value = 0,000). Ini mengindikasikan bahwa semakin tinggi tingkat kepercayaan diri siswa, semakin tinggi pula prestasi belajar yang dicapai. Terdapat hubungan positif yang sangat kuat dan signifikan antara tingkat kepercayaan diri dengan prestasi belajar pada siswa MTS di Demak. Peningkatan kepercayaan diri berkorelasi dengan peningkatan prestasi belajar.Kata Kunci: Kepercayaan diri, Prestasi belajar, Siswa MTS

Abstract

Background: TikTok usage among adolescents is increasing and has the potential to impact psychological aspects, particularly self-esteem. Adolescents, who are in the stage of developing their identity, are vulnerable to the influence of interactions and social comparisons on social media. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between TikTok usage behavior and self-esteem levels in students at SMA Negeri 2 Semarang. Method: This study employed a descriptive correlational research design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 424 students from grade 11 at SMA Negeri 2 Semarang. Sampling was conducted using the Simple Random Sampling technique, resulting in a total sample of 206 respondents, determined by the Slovin formula. Bivariate analysis was carried out using the Spearman Rank Correlation test. Result: The results of the Spearman Rank statistical test showed a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.412 with a significance value of 0.000. The negative correlation indicates an inverse relationship between TikTok usage behavior and students’ self-esteem levels, meaning that the higher the intensity of TikTok use, the lower the self-esteem of the students. The correlation coefficient of 0.412 falls within the category of a moderate relationship. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between TikTok usage behavior and self-esteem levels among high school students.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) patients can experience anxiety due to complex disease management, fear of complications (kidney failure, amputation), the impact of lifestyle changes, and lack of social support. DM Learning can help DM patients manage their disease, where DM learning is an educational tool about DM disease that includes an understanding of the causes, symptoms, treatment methods (diet, exercise, medication), complications, and prevention, so that sufferers and the general public can manage DM effectively and improve their quality of life. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of DM Learning using an application on the anxiety level of DM patients at the Sari Asih Serang Hospital Polyclinic. Method: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest design with a control group. Each group consisted of 60 respondents taken using a purposive sampling technique. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using the marginal homogeneity test. Results: The analysis results showed that application-based DM learning was effective in reducing the anxiety level of diabetes mellitus patients (p: 0.000). Conventional DM learning was also effective in reducing the anxiety level of diabetes mellitus patients (p: 0.000). Application-based DM learning is more effective in reducing anxiety levels in diabetes mellitus patients compared to conventional DM learning (p: 0.000). Conclusion: Application-based DM learning is effective in reducing anxiety levels in diabetes mellitus patients.
