Abstract

The rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) has led to significant advancements in various industries, including the creative sector. IoT technology enables the interconnection of devices and systems, allowing for new forms of interaction and automation. However, the potential of IoT to generate new business opportunities within the creative industries has not been fully explored. This research aims to investigate the impact of IoT on the creative sector, focusing on how businesses can leverage IoT to innovate, enhance customer experiences, and streamline operations. The study adopts a qualitative research approach, combining case studies and interviews with industry professionals to explore the current applications of IoT in design, media, entertainment, and the arts. The findings indicate that IoT technologies have the potential to revolutionize the creative sector by enabling personalized experiences, optimizing creative workflows, and creating new revenue streams. Businesses are increasingly adopting IoT to offer interactive experiences, such as smart installations, personalized content, and enhanced product design. The study concludes that IoT can offer substantial business opportunities for companies in the creative sector, especially when it comes to enhancing customer engagement and integrating technology into traditional creative processes.

Abstract

Start-ups increasingly operate within a landscape where technological innovation intersects with social responsibility, yet empirical understanding of how these ventures manage creative technologies for sustainable impact remains limited. This study addresses the critical gap in knowledge regarding the operationalization of ethical objectives within technology-driven entrepreneurial contexts. The research aims to investigate the strategies, organizational practices, and mechanisms through which socially-conscious start-ups leverage creative technologies to achieve measurable social and environmental outcomes. A qualitative multiple-case study design was employed, involving ten start-ups in the creative technology sector. Data collection comprised semi-structured interviews with founders and key team members, systematic observations of operational processes, and document analysis including mission statements and project reports. Thematic coding and triangulation were applied to identify patterns, relationships, and emergent strategies in aligning technological adoption with social objectives. Findings reveal that intentional integration of technology with organizational culture and resource allocation significantly enhances social impact, while collaborative team structures and iterative feedback mechanisms reinforce ethical operational practices. Variations across cases highlight the influence of managerial decision-making and sectoral context on effective implementation of social initiatives. Start-ups that align creative technologies with social conscience achieve both operational efficiency and sustainable societal benefit. The study concludes that responsible innovation is contingent upon deliberate strategic planning, technological competence, and ethical leadership, providing a framework for guiding future socially-conscious entrepreneurial endeavors.

Abstract

Local culture significantly influences customary practices within Muslim societies, shaping unique expressions of Islamic teachings across diverse regions. In Central Java, Indonesia, traditional practices are deeply intertwined with Islamic values, creating a distinctive cultural-religious identity. While these practices enrich local traditions, they also raise questions about the balance between cultural preservation and religious orthodoxy. This study aims to explore the influence of local culture on customary practices in Central Java’s Muslim communities, examining how cultural elements align with or diverge from Islamic principles. A qualitative case study approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews with community leaders, religious scholars, and practitioners of traditional customs in three rural areas. Observational data and document analysis of local texts and records supplemented the interviews, offering a comprehensive understanding of the interplay between culture and religion. The findings reveal that local culture plays a pivotal role in shaping religious practices, particularly in rites of passage, social ceremonies, and communal worship. These findings highlight the dynamic relationship between religion and culture, emphasizing adaptation and negotiation. The study concludes that cultural sensitivity and context-specific approaches are essential for understanding and preserving the diversity of Islamic expressions.

Abstract

Scholarship has long critiqued gender imbalance in English Language Teaching (EFL) materials, yet a significant gap persists regarding identities outside the gender binary. Textbooks often reinforce a cisnormative worldview, failing to reflect contemporary linguistic and social realities. This study critically analyzes the discursive practices constructing gender representation, focusing on the exclusion of non-binary identities and the status of linguistic equity in widely-used EFL textbooks. A Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) was employed, examining a corpus of three major, globally-distributed EFL textbook series. The analysis integrated quantitative pronoun frequency counts (“he”, “she”, singular “they”) with qualitative and semiotic analysis. Findings reveal a systemic “binary-only entrenchment.” Despite quantitative parity between “he” and “she”, there was a zero-occurrence of the singular “they” for human reference. This erasure is actively maintained through discursive avoidance (e.g., “he or she”) and reinforced by stereotypes, amounting to symbolic annihilation. The analyzed textbooks are not merely outdated but actively perpetuate a hegemonic, binary-exclusive ideology. This failure in linguistic equity misprepares learners and constitutes a significant ethical and pedagogical lapse in the ELT industry.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence has led to the increasing use of AI-powered tutors in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, particularly for speaking skills development. Despite growing adoption, empirical evidence comparing the effectiveness of AI-powered tutors and human tutors in developing oral fluency remains limited and inconclusive. This study aims to comparatively examine the efficacy of AI-powered tutors and human tutors in enhancing EFL learners’ oral fluency across multiple fluency dimensions. This research employed a comparative experimental design involving two groups of EFL learners who received equivalent instructional content over a fixed intervention period, differentiated only by tutoring modality. One group engaged in AI-powered tutoring, while the other received instruction from human tutors. Pretest and posttest measures of oral fluency were administered, focusing on temporal, interactional, and discourse-related indicators. Quantitative data were analyzed using inferential statistical techniques to determine within-group and between-group differences. The findings reveal that both AI-powered tutors and human tutors significantly improved learners’ oral fluency. AI-powered tutors were particularly effective in enhancing temporal fluency, including speech rate and reduced hesitation. Human tutors demonstrated superior effectiveness in developing interactional competence, discourse coherence, and pragmatic appropriateness. The study concludes that AI-powered tutors serve as effective supplementary tools for oral fluency practice, while human tutors remain essential for higher-level communicative development. A hybrid instructional approach is recommended to maximize EFL speaking outcomes.

Abstract

The rapid integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education has opened new possibilities for personalized learning, yet emotional engagement remains an underdeveloped dimension in hybrid learning environments. Traditional AI tutoring systems primarily focus on cognitive adaptation, often neglecting the affective aspects that influence student motivation, attention, and persistence. This study explores the use of affective computing to develop emotion-aware virtual tutors capable of recognizing and responding to learners’ emotional states in real time. The research aims to design and evaluate a hybrid AI tutoring model that integrates facial expression recognition, voice sentiment analysis, and physiological data interpretation to deliver adaptive emotional feedback. The study employed a mixed-method approach combining system prototyping, experimental testing, and learner experience evaluation. Data were collected from 120 middle and university students engaged in hybrid science courses, using emotion-recognition accuracy rates, engagement indices, and qualitative interviews as core evaluation metrics. Results showed that the emotion-aware tutor achieved an average recognition accuracy of 91.2% and improved learner engagement by 34% compared to traditional AI tutors. Students reported higher satisfaction and felt more connected to the virtual tutor, indicating that emotional responsiveness enhanced trust and motivation. The findings demonstrate that affective AI systems can humanize digital learning interactions, providing affect-sensitive feedback that complements cognitive personalization. Future research should explore ethical frameworks for emotion data privacy and expand cross-cultural models of emotional intelligence in AI tutoring.

Abstract

Palliative care has undergone significant transformation as global health systems respond to increasing rates of chronic and life-limiting illnesses. Persistent challenges in pain management, symptom control, and psychosocial support highlight the need for evidence-based innovations that enhance patient quality of life. This study aims to examine emerging evidence-based approaches in palliative pain management and evaluate their impact on improving holistic well-being for patients receiving palliative care. A systematic review methodology was employed, synthesizing findings from clinical trials, observational studies, and multidisciplinary intervention reports published over the past decade. The results indicate that multimodal pain management strategies combining pharmacological optimization, non-pharmacological therapies, and digital monitoring technologies significantly reduce pain severity and enhance patient comfort. The evidence further demonstrates that integrative interventions, such as mindfulness-based therapies, personalized care planning, and family-centered support models, contribute meaningfully to psychological resilience and perceived quality of life. The study concludes that evidence-based innovations in palliative care provide measurable benefits across physical, emotional, and social dimensions, underscoring the importance of adopting interdisciplinary and patient-centered approaches.

Abstract

Background. Narcotics-related crimes continue to be a significant issue worldwide, with prison sentences often viewed as a primary deterrent. However, there is limited empirical evidence regarding the effectiveness of incarceration in reducing the incidence of narcotics crimes. The question remains whether prison sentences lead to long-term reductions in drug-related offenses or merely function as a short-term punitive measure without addressing underlying issues such as addiction and socio-economic factors. Objective. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of prison sentences in preventing narcotics crimes, focusing on recidivism rates and rehabilitation outcomes for offenders. The research investigates whether incarceration contributes to long-term crime prevention or if alternative approaches, such as rehabilitation programs, offer more sustainable results. Method. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining quantitative data analysis of recidivism rates from convicted drug offenders and qualitative interviews with legal professionals, offenders, and rehabilitation experts. The data collected spans a five-year period and includes case studies from various correctional facilities. Results. The findings indicate that while prison sentences temporarily reduce narcotics crime, they are less effective in preventing recidivism. Rehabilitation programs integrated into the prison system significantly contributed to reducing reoffending rates, particularly when combined with post-release support. Conclusion. Prison sentences alone are insufficient in preventing narcotics crimes. A more comprehensive approach, including rehabilitation and social reintegration efforts, is necessary for long-term success in reducing narcotics-related offenses.

Abstract

High-temperature ceramic superconductors offer promising pathways for future energy storage because their near-zero electrical resistance and strong magnetic behavior may support efficient high-current applications. This study aimed to compare superconducting phenomena in YBCO, Bi-2212, and Bi-2223 ceramics and evaluate their material-level relevance to prospective superconducting magnetic energy storage systems. A comparative laboratory-based experimental design was employed using structural characterization, scanning electron microscopy, four-probe resistivity measurements, magnetic analysis, critical current evaluation, thermal cycling, and field-dependent testing. The results showed that Bi-2223 achieved the highest superconducting onset temperature, whereas YBCO exhibited the strongest overall functional profile through a narrower transition width, higher critical current density, stronger magnetic shielding, and more stable current transport. Bi-2212 demonstrated reproducible superconductivity but showed comparatively weaker grain connectivity and lower current-carrying performance. Correlation analysis further indicated that phase purity, grain connectivity, and flux-pinning behavior were strongly associated with superconducting performance. The study concludes that critical temperature alone is insufficient for assessing energy-storage suitability. A multidimensional evaluation integrating thermal, electrical, magnetic, and microstructural properties provides a more reliable basis for identifying promising superconducting materials for future storage technologies while highlighting the need for conductor-scale and device-level validation under realistic cryogenic, mechanical, and high-field operating conditions over extended cycles.

Abstract

Digital technologies have reshaped language learning by providing EFL university students with access to online resources, mobile applications, artificial intelligence tools, and interactive platforms. This study aimed to identify the autonomous language learning strategies employed by EFL university students in the digital era and examine the factors associated with their use. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 250 undergraduate students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a validated questionnaire covering cognitive, metacognitive, memory, compensation, affective, social, and digital-resource management strategies, then analyzed through descriptive statistics, correlation, t-tests, analysis of variance, and multiple regression. The findings showed that students used autonomous learning strategies at a high level, with metacognitive strategies receiving the highest mean score, followed by digital-resource management and cognitive strategies. Affective strategies were the least frequently employed. Digital literacy, motivation, and daily digital-learning duration were significantly related to strategy use, while digital literacy emerged as the strongest predictor. The study concludes that learner autonomy in digital contexts depends not only on technological access but also on students’ capacity to plan, evaluate, regulate, and ethically integrate digital resources. Universities should therefore provide explicit instruction in strategic learning, critical digital literacy, and responsible artificial intelligence use.
