Abstract

Character building is a critical element in education. The Banda Aceh Municipal Government launched the Diniyah Education program to build adolescent character at the Public Senior High School level. This study aims to explore information about implementing the Diniyah Education program and the problems in implementing the Diniyah Education program at public senior high schools in Banda Aceh. This research is naturalistic qualitative research with phenomenological methods. The subjects of this study include six diniyah teachers, three principals and nine students. The subject of this research was chosen by purposive sampling, divided into three Senior High Schools in Banda Aceh. Data collection techniques are done through semi-structured interviews, direct observation and documentation. While the interview was conducted with diniyah teachers, principals and students, direct observations were made on implementing diniyah education at the three high schools above. The results showed that, first, the management of Diniyah Education was going well. It was evident from the following facts, recruitment of teachers professionally; a reward that is appropriate for the teacher; the use of learning methods and media according to the age of students; the selection of learning resources which are suitable for the program purpose such as the Jami' Jawami' book. Second, problems of the program include miscommunication of duties and responsibilities between diniyah teachers and schoolteachers, lack of teaching material resources about Diniyah Education, parental involvement problems, and the absence of sustainability program policies in universities. The implication of this research is to provide recommendations to the Government of Banda Aceh in order to continue and develop the diniyah education program as the spearhead of students' Islamic character building. There need to be binding regulations for the program's sustainability at the tertiary level and curriculum adjustments that are applicable and progressive according to the development of the technological age.

Abstract

Religious programs cannot be carried out due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. However, after the repeal of PPKM, the school resumed carrying out the religious program. This study aims to analyze the school's efforts to revitalize religious programs when schools are allowed to hold face-to-face learning in line with the decline in the spread of Covid-19. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Research informants are school principals, PAI teachers, and students. Collecting data through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis through data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. This study found that the revitalization of religious programs was carried out after the program was not implemented optimally or even could not be implemented due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. This revitalization is essential as a form of school responsibility in strengthening character education, one of which is the religious program. The revitalized programs are 1) Quran recitation at the 0th hour, 2) commemoration of Islamic holidays, and 3) Yasin recitation. On the other hand, the school also revitalizes the teachers' understanding of the importance of religious education, teacher professionalism, and moral degradation as a challenge. Revitalizing religious programs can be done after the end of Covid-19 by revitalizing the program and teacher's understanding so that it can educate students' character through religious education in schools.

Abstract

During the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, students and teachers had to carry out academic activities via online learning management system. Recently the threat of Covid-19 has receded and schools immediately carry out full face-to-face learning. The present study observed high school students’ perception of the shifts of English learning from blended to offline learning. The research data was obtained through a questionnaire from 286 students consisting of 118 males and 168 females in Central Java, Indonesia. The results reveal some pros and cons towards offline learning. In general, students accustomed to online learning find offline learning time-consuming and burdensome. However, most of them state that offline learning is fun, more interesting, and more effective. Importantly, they could meet their classmates and teachers in person again. The study concluded that offline learning or traditional classrooms were preferred to online learning.

Abstract

Students’ problems in using English to communicate need to be handled seriously. Teaching English is no more teaching the knowledge of English only but also the use of context. This library research elaborates on the importance of pragmatics for EFL students to improve their communication skills in various contexts of interaction and to strengthen the importance of pragmatic competence for non-native English teachers in teaching natural English communication. Documentation is the collecting technique using a checklist and fieldnote instruments. The primary sources are theories about pragmatics and teaching communication from books and published journals. In order to obtain correct and precise results in analyzing data, a content analysis technique is used. The data analysis procedure covers determining the design, which is linkage analysis, finding main data, and theories about pragmatics from books, then finding contextual knowledge from published research related to pragmatics and teaching English communication, and finally, writing and interpreting the linkage to describe the results. The findings show that pragmatics should not limitedly act as classroom instructions but as competence to be constantly developed and practised for students or teachers. Pragmatics should be seen from its whole aspect in order to communicate naturally and contextually. It can also be concluded that opportunities for pragmatic practice should be provided to achieve the goal of teaching English, that is, the ability to use English in various contexts of interaction.

Digital space is currently being used as a propaganda tool for extremism in the name of religion, so efforts are needed to counter this influence. This study aims to analyze the mainstreaming of religious moderation by teachers in the digital era as an effort to counter the influence of intolerance and extremism. The research method used is Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with meta-synthetic data analysis techniques. Data was obtained through a collection of published journals from 2019-2022. According to the findings of this study, educators can promote religious moderation in today's digital age through a variety of activities, including 1) literacy through digital libraries; 2) literacy through social media; 3) literacy through webinars; and 4) literacy through scientific writing. Abstract

The study's overarching objective is to examine how learning technology is being used to include local history in Indonesian history classrooms. Well-known for its ability to help students better understand national history by incorporating local perspectives. This research employed a meta-analysis based on a systematic review. The research's journal data was culled from the Scopus and Sinta databases. The research method used is the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) method. The author uses this method because the research protocol of the PRISMA method is detailed and complete, which allows for avoiding subjective bias in conducting a literature review. This study only uses a literature review without conducting a direct field study. From the search results of Scopus-indexed articles using publish and perish (2017-2022) with the keywords "local history learning," Sinta indexes eight articles through Google Scholar with the keywords "Local History Learning" 23 articles are obtained. Papers that apply to learning technology-based local history learning have two articles indexed by Scopus and ten articles by Sinta. Technology-based learning is a must in learning history to face globalisation in the era of society 5.0. Thus, technology-based learning of local history makes learning history more meaningful, effective, and efficient. Limitations of research on the articles used are only Scopus indexed using publish and perish (2017-2022) and indexed Sinta. So, in the future, it can be updated by analysing articles that contain new research results.

Abstract

This study uses literary analysis to provide a model for how multicultural education might help Indonesian schools meet the challenges of the twenty-first century. This study fills a knowledge vacuum by employing works of fiction to investigate the importance of intercultural education. The novel Negeri 5 Menara also depicts a multicultural lifestyle and educational system. In this investigation, we employ a qualitative strategy based on content analysis. The study's data comes from a search for examples of intercultural education's core values in literature. This study used a selected data gathering method that Huberman and Miles refer to as "data reduction," consisting of five steps: selecting, focusing, simplifying, summarising, and modifying the raw data. Credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability are all aspects of data validity that should be examined. According to the study's findings, 1) multicultural education is beneficial because it teaches students to respect and tolerate diverse points of view during the decision-making process; 2) students can benefit from multicultural education both inside and outside the classroom; and 3) the value of multicultural education can be broken down into three main value components: democracy, pluralism, and humanism. The similarities in the concept of pluralism values, cultural empowerment as a basis for freedom of cross-cultural understanding, and the combination of content and knowledge construction in the education system are all examples of the framework of the multicultural education model that emerges from the analysis results. The findings of this study have relevance for the advancement of science, particularly for the study of literature across disciplines.
