Abstract

This research is motivated by the phenomenon of the low literacy culture of the Indonesian people, which, according to UNESCO, are ranked 60th out of 61 countries. In a year, children in Europe and America can read about 25-27% of books, children in Japan are around 15-18%, while Indonesian children only reach 0.01%. The phenomenon of low interest in reading books also occurs in students with special needs at a private Elementary School. This study aims to improve the literacy skills of students with special needs at an elementary school using flash card media. This study uses an experimental approach, with a pre-experimental model carried out by (pretest-posttest design). The group observed was ten students with special needs in low grades with down syndrome, speech delay, meningitis, slow learning, and dyslexia. The results showed that the flash card media improved the literacy skills (reading at the beginning) of students with special needs with a significance value of 0.007 0.05, which means that the statistical test significance of reading skills scores is smaller than the significance limit value. The improvement of literacy skills (reading the beginning) is also influenced by attractive, illustrated and colourful flash card media design. This results in students being more interested in learning to read and more accessible to understanding the studied concepts.

Abstract

This research was purposed to know the role of education and to analyze the relationships of Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) and Human Development Index (HDI) on poverty rate in East Java Province. The used research method was quantitative research. This research used secondary data obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistics of East Java. The data were analyzed by using panel data regression analysis with Fixed Effect Model (FEM) estimation and the aid of EViews 9.0 application program. The research result showed that PDRB and HDI variables affected simultaneously poverty rate in East Java Province from 2010 to 2016 that was 97.8506%. GRDP variable affected partially poverty rate that was -0.251899, and HDI variable affected partially as well poverty rate that was -1.868236. To support the increment of human development index (HDI), it is necessary to enhance the role of education. It is generally accepted that a person's HDI income level will improve as their degree of education increases. This is achievable due to the fact that educated people tend to be more productive overall.

Abstract

Teaching materials are learning tools that are used with the help of tools that facilitate the delivery of material during the learning process at school. A platform called Flipbook Maker provides open-access e-learning in the form of digital books. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of Flipbook Maker-based learning media for e-learning. For class X SMA students, teaching materials were made in the form of digital books about the Kingdom of Sriwijaya with case studies at a junior high school in Sorong Regency. Development research with the ADDIE model, which consists of the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation, is the research method used. Material experts, media experts, and linguists assigned “fit” scores to the research team's product during development. During the implementation phase, the researcher conducted tests with class X students of the school. Students in the Try Out One-to-One and Small Group Try Out groups evaluated the results of this implementation phase using the "very suitable" criteria. Finally, the evaluation results show the effectiveness of the product by showing an increase in student learning outcomes of 34.41%. This shows how effective digital books on the history of the Srivijaya Kingdom based on flipbook maker are for learning. The limitations of this research are the schools studied were only one school, and have different geography and demographics. Furthermore, the Flipook Maker learning media is only used on certain topics in history subjects whose results are not necessarily the same if used in the same or other subjects.

Abstract

The dissemination of educational behaviours that enhance students' environmental literacy should be prioritised in light of the escalating environmental degradation. This research aims to: (1) describe the implementation of Adiwiyata program activities; (2) describe the environmental literacy skills; (3) describe the environmental care attitude; and (4) identify the factors that support or impede the implementation of adiwiyata program at a private elementary school in Bogor Regency. The qualitative descriptive study was done at a provincial-level Adiwiyata school from September 2021 to January 2022, employing qualitative descriptive methodologies. Written tests containing questions and questionnaires, interviews with instructors and students, observations, and documentation were utilized to disseminate data collection techniques. The assessment of environmental literacy is based on three indicators: (1) ecological knowledge, (2) environmental affection, and (3) behaviors. According to the findings of this study, this elementary school employs eco-friendly practices in order to attain Adiwiyata. The results of this study indicate that each indicator received a score of 75, 39.15, and 19.6 for the favorable category. The attitude of concern for the environment received a score of 76.42 in the category of excellence. These results are influenced by (1) quality environmental education, (2) student participation in environmental activities, and (3) student environmental knowledge. There are obstacles to the implementation of Adiwiyata, such as a lack of interest from school residents, an uneven distribution of environmental care, and the expense of carrying out activities. This study's findings will serve as an evaluation tool for the school's efforts to maximize Adiwiyata activities.
