This study was intended to characterize and analyze the portrait of social issues in Indonesian society depicted in Indonesian literature. This descriptive qualitative study used a grand theory of the literature sociology and a mimetic approach. The research gap of this study lies in its specific focus on social themes addressed by female writers and its exploration of how literary works contribute to a broader understanding of social dynamics. Here are the steps undertaken in data collection for this research: establishing the research objectives, selecting novels that address social issues or themes, closely reading and examining the novels, making notes, identifying units of analysis, and recording relevant quotations or dialogues pertaining to social critique. The data were then examined using content analysis, which was conducted employing 5 novels as the data sources. According to the analysis's findings, poverty was the most prevalent social issue in Indonesian literature because people were accused of being political prisoners by the new order regime and hence were unable to obtain quality employment. Crime, family dysfunction, the development of modern modes, transgressions of social norms, population, environment, religious issues, and social bureaucracy issues were among the social issues of the Indonesian people that were discovered. The implications of this research lie in the endeavour to provide a novel contribution to the understanding of the relationship between literature and society. In other words, literature serves as a means to critique and reflect upon existing social issues.

This study aims to discuss the role of individual technical academic supervision in improving the quality of learning in the "new normal" era after the COVID-19 pandemic. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method involving school principals, teachers, and students at Pelita Nusantara Elementary School. The results showed that individual technical academic supervision was carried out by the principal through several stages, including planning supervision by creating programs and instruments using the Google Drive and Google Form applications. Supervision is carried out through online class visits, learning observations, and individual talks with teachers. Digital-based supervision provides efficiency in the supervision process, enabling principals to monitor teacher activities in various classes without time and place restrictions. However, online supervision also has weaknesses related to the lack of direct interaction between supervisors and teachers. Supervision of learning materials is also an important part of academic supervision, where the school principal checks and assesses learning device documents such as lesson plans in accordance with the new curriculum. Recommendations for further research include comparative studies on the effectiveness of various supervision platforms, developing more interactive supervision platforms, in-depth research on the impact of technology on supervision, and exploring the implementation of peer-to-peer supervision.

Implementing the Independent Campus-Freedom to Learn (MBKM) programme has significantly changed the learning process. It is mandatory for universities to implement the programme. Nevertheless, the programme encountered significant challenges in its execution due to the outbreak of COVID-19, rendering the optimal conditions for its deployment unattainable. Following a period of nearly two years of implementation, it is imperative for tertiary institutions to undertake an evaluation of the program's accomplishments. The outcomes of this evaluation are anticipated to serve as a foundation for future enhancements. This paper aims to examine the perspectives of students, instructors, and education professionals regarding the execution of the MBKM programme. The survey was administered to participants from three distinct groups, who provided justifications for a series of questions or assertions. The survey data underwent analysis using descriptive analytic techniques. In conjunction with the survey, this study incorporates further analysis through the utilisation of focus group discussions (FGDs) encompassing three distinct groups of participants, including structural officials. The findings indicated that the internship programme within the company emerged as the primary preference among students enrolled in the MBKM programme. A significant proportion of students believe that the MBKM programme does not delay their academic progression; as a result, they express their intention to participate in the programme and even advocate for its adoption among their peers. The level of comprehension among students, instructors, and education personnel regarding the MBKM programme is moderate. The findings derived from the analysis of the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) suggest that there is a requirement to enhance socialisation and improve the comprehensibility of course conversion.

Many professionals emphasize the importance of teaching English with critical thinking skills, but implementation is still scant, especially in Indonesia ELT. This research investigates the use of critical thinking activities to teach EFL learners speaking skills, describes the challenges teachers and students face, and explains how they overcome them. Foreign Language Department Institute (FLDI) of the Boarding School at Probolinggo completed the research. This descriptive qualitative study used observation, interviews, and documentation for data. Three steps—reducing, showing, and concluding—analyzed the data. This study indicated that FLDI implemented critical thinking through speech, debate, and discussion. Those exercises engaged students throughout the process, allowing them to speak up and think critically. The research also revealed teacher concerns regarding student critical thinking, speaking, and boredom. Students also struggled in critical reading, speaking, and article writing. This study showed how teachers and students used icebreakers, reading and writing instruction, vocabulary memorization, and intensive engagement to overcome such challenges. This study encourages EFL teachers to provide comprehensive tasks to help students practice speaking and thinking. This study may also help EFL teachers and students with speaking issues.
