Abstract

The researchers purposely conducted this qualitative study to determine the teaching strategies used by Indonesian EFL novice teachers in dealing with the online learning challenges they have adapted to during COVID-19 and how their strategy fulfilled the need for online learning. Using interviews and document analysis, the researchers presented strategies of five novice EFL teachers practised in Indonesia to adjust to the online learning challenges toward their teaching they experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. The data analysis is done by transcribing, analyzing, coding, describing, and concluding from teachers' guided written reflections and semi-structured interviews. The results were also analyzed under the conceptual model of five types of interactions by Wang et al. The findings revealed that the teachers employed several strategies to minimize technical problems, create efficient learning resources, and adapt to an ERT-based learning environment. Despite these beneficial strategies, they cannot fulfil the successful criteria of online learning. Therefore, there is a need for improvement. This study is limited to a small number of participants, which may need to adequately expose all of the strategies employed by other novice teachers during online classes. Additionally, this study did not further investigate learning achievement, which needs to be investigated for future research.

Abstract

This study aims to present a review of culture-based learning in primary school. The results of research have been found in several articles related to the implementation of culturally responsive teaching (CRT) or culture based learning. The findings in these articles were then used as a basis for formulating a new way of discussing culture-based learning (CRT) at the primary school level. The methodology used in this study is a literature search of articles in both Indonesian and English in 2018-2021 sourced from Google Scholar, Scopus.com, and Garuda search sites using the keywords “implementation of culturally responsive teaching”, “implementation of culture-based learning".  The data analysis procedure was performed based on a qualitative approach. The research results show that culture-based learning or CRT can be implemented in learning resources as an inculcation of ethical, moral and character values of students. The new way that can be done is to implement culture-based learning at the primary school level, which requires commitment from all elements of education and school members to create learning according to students' needs by involving cultural elements.

Abstract

The effective allocation of educational resources is crucial for enhancing the quality of education. This study explores the development and application of a decision support system (DSS) using the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS) method. Various entities are evaluated based on a set of critical criteria. Using the TOPSIS approach, entities were systematically ranked, offering a clear directive for optimal resource allocation. This study provides a significant tool for resource management, offering a transparent, objective, and data-driven process. However, DSS should complement other qualitative and contextual considerations in the decision-making process. Future research directions include the integration of temporal data, broadening the set of criteria, and the inclusion of machine learning for dynamic decision-making. Ultimately, this study underscores the value of systematic and data-driven processes in resource allocation, contributing to the improvement of the quality of education

Abstract

Developing children's self-confidence from an early age helps build rational thought processes, solve problems, increase achievement and performance levels and make good decisions in the future. This study aims to describe the parenting factors that trigger children's lack of confidence. This greatly impacts children's emotional and social development in their environment to provide several interventions to develop children's self-confidence. The subjects in the study of family factors on self-confidence in early childhood were two children in group B. The type of research used is a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection using observation and interview techniques. Children who lack confidence may find it difficult to interact with other peers. The results showed that there are several factors of parenting patterns on children's self-confidence, such as authoritarian parenting, gender bias and parental knowledge.  Parents and teachers play an important role in directing, motivating, and directing children to dare to perform in front of the class, talk to peers, and socialize with others. Then form interventions with play while learning that parents can do with children at home in order to develop children's self-confidence.

Abstract

This paper inquires to look at the vital role of Pancasila values in building the nation's character of students through civic education. This research was conducted to see how far the role of Pancasila values as part of the Citizenship Education subject, apart from being a national ideology, is also a nation's view of life that can shape the nation’s character in students at school. This research used a qualitative and quantitative approach with a population of 21 high schools in Purwakarta with a sample of 5 schools as a sample. From this research, it was found that the Pancasila values contained in the first to the fifth precepts in the Civics Education subject are expected to be a guide for students in everyday life, both inside the classroom and outside the classroom, in the family, in the community, even in the life of the nation and state. As agents of social change, students must still be able to see the meaning of Pancasila's position as the basic foundation, which is the core of Civics learning, so that Pancasila's values can still be a guide in people's lives Pancasila and able to shape the character of the nation.

Abstract

Emotional development in childhood is a determinant of the attitude and behaviour of children in the future. Not optimally developing children's emotional abilities will cause negative emotions in the form of tantrums. This study aims to describe the tantrum behaviour of children. The purpose of this study was to investigate what causes children to throw tantrums and what parents and educators may do to reduce the occurrence of these outbursts. This research employed a descriptive analysis of a case, or a case study, of two group B children, aged five and six, with tantrum behaviour issues in one of the kindergartens in Bukittinggi City. Two youngsters, RKW and ZP, were studied for their tantrum behaviours. Researchers identified three types of tantrums: manipulative, vocal irritation, and temperamental. When it comes to a child's personal growth, parents and educators play crucial roles. However, parents and instructors can handle toddlers prone to tantrums in one of two ways: either keep a close check on them or ignore them entirely. Once the child has calmed down, they are given simple, straightforward guidance. Hugs are the final piece of advice that parents and teachers may give.

Abstract

The present learning process should be directed at higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). However, there are still many teachers in elementary schools who have not implemented hots learning as a whole, both in terms of learning models, media, and assessments, because there are no guidelines or modules related to the implementation of HOTS, especially at the elementary school level. This condition certainly requires an adaptation process that is not easy and also includes synthesizing, analyzing, reasoning, comprehending, applying, and evaluating. Therefore, this study aims to determine the implementation of HOTS in elementary schools, using learning models, media, and assessment. In this experiment, a narrative review was used with a database search and thematic analysis. The criteria used also emphasized the articles from various sources, such as national and international scientific journals, related topics, the last 5 years of publication within 2018-2022, and full-text pdf versions in ERIC and Mendeley. From this process, a total of 11 articles were subsequently analyzed. Based on the results, the following was obtained, (1) several learning models stimulated, trained, developed, and improved HOTS in elementary school students, using project and problem-based learning, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), inquiry, problem determination and solution, concept construction and analysis, as well as RADEC (Read, Answer, Discuss, Explain, and Create). (2) Learning media capable of developing HOTS include question-based fun thinkers, Android-based word search educational games, and a related crossword puzzle. (3) HOTS assessments were carried out using the Two-Level Multiple Choices Test (TTMCT) instrument. This led to the establishment of the criteria for students’ product evaluations, using formative and summative assessments, self, peer, and teacher-evaluation incorporation, as well as HOTS question development. From these results, teachers need to use various learning models, media, and assessments. Teacher should also initiate the aspects of higher-order thinking skills, including learning analysis, evaluation, and development.

Abstract

Eliminating gender in education is one of the SDGs’ (Sustainable Development Goals) targets in which previous research has examined gender in its correlation to achievement, learning outcomes, learning processes, and learning styles. One thing that is necessary but has not been investigated by previous researchers is the factor causing the differences in the correlation significance in the form of ways of learning and self-awareness as part of Self-Regulated Learning. This research was conducted to investigate the causal relationship between the Self-Regulated Learning of the students of the Department of Primary School Teacher Education of a state university in Surakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year and their genders. This research used a quantitative approach with a comparative research type. The population in this study were all the students of the Department of Primary School Teacher Education in the 2022/2023 academic year using Cluster Random Sampling as a sampling technique. Data collection techniques used closed and direct questionnaires. The data analysis technique used was descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Based on the calculation results of the Independent Sample T-Test, a significant value of 0.267 0.05 was obtained, and the t count was 1.125 F table of 1.717. The results showed that the Self-Regulated Learning ability of the students of the Department of Primary School Teacher Education in the 2022/2023 academic year has the same average, so the ability of Self-Regulated Learning cannot be differentiated according to gender.
